Headmaster dies in Bera road accident, motorcyclist killed by falling tree
Bera police chief Supt Zulkiflee Nazir said Mohd Sabri Bakar, 59, from Temerloh, was driving a Proton Preve to his brother's house in Kampung Guai when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle at about 6.30 pm. He died at the scene.
'Members of the public pulled the victim out before the car caught fire and was 80 per cent destroyed,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In a separate incident, Zulkiflee said a 65-year-old motorcyclist, Kamar Seman, was killed when a tree fell on him while he was riding along KM34 Jalan Kuala Bera-Chenor around 7 pm.
Both bodies were sent to Bera Hospital for post-mortem. - Bernama

Policeman in crash that killed teen detained, cooperated fully
ALOR STAR: The policeman involved in the road crash that claimed the life of a teenager in Guar Chempedak has been detained and questioned. Kedah police chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the policeman had fully cooperated with the investigation. He said the policeman had lodged a report immediately after the incident and has since been released on police bail after testing negative for drugs. "He reported the crash and fully submitted to the investigation process. Urine tests came back negative, and he has no prior disciplinary or integrity-related offences on record," Adzli told the New Straits Times. He stressed that the incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness and transparency. "If there had been any element of criminal intent or evidence that the policeman was under the influence, we would not have hesitated to take immediate and more serious action," he said. Adzli said the case, which was initially investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, has now been reclassified under Section 41(1) of the same act for causing death by dangerous driving following the victim's passing. "There is no question of preferential treatment or cover-up. The same legal processes apply to all, regardless of whether the suspect is a civilian or a policeman," he said. He added that the decision to suspend the policeman will be evaluated based on the progress of the investigation. "We are deeply saddened by the tragedy. A full and uncompromised investigation is ongoing, including an internal probe by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department," he said. The victim, 16-year-old Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's intensive care unit on Thursday after battling critical injuries for three days. He was hit by a Perodua Axia reportedly driven by the policeman at an intersection in Guar Chempedak on Monday.

Police tracing m-cyclists seen riding recklessly moments before multi-vehicle crash
SUNGAI BULOH: Police are looking for at least two motorcyclists captured riding recklessly in a viral video just moments before a multi-vehicle crash along the Guthrie Corridor Expressway. The incident involving two motorcycles and three cars occurred at Km9.6 of the southbound stretch around 12.40am on Saturday. District police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said preliminary investigations showed the crash happened when a car travelling from Elmina to Meru slowed down to avoid the two motorcycles, which had crashed earlier at the same location. "Another car coming from behind failed to stop in time and rammed into the rear of a second car, which in turn crashed into the first vehicle. "All three cars were damaged but no injuries were reported among the car drivers," he said in a statement today The two motorcyclists believed to be involved in a crash moments earlier, travelling in a group while performing dangerous stunts, had fled the scene before police arrived. "We are working to identify and track down both the riders. Their irresponsible behaviour not only caused a chain collision but also endangered other road users," said Hafiz. He added that police do not rule out the possibility that the crash was linked to illegal street racing or dangerous riding. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. Hafiz reminded the public that such behaviour on public roads could have deadly consequences. "Roads are not racetracks. We will not tolerate activities like illegal racing or stunt riding that endanger others," he said. Op Pelbagai: 330 summonses issued for non-standard licence plates, other traffic offences

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, dubbed Op Pelbagai, saw 509 vehicles and 571 individuals checked from July 28 to Aug 3. The operation was conducted by the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, involving a senior officer and 13 personnel. 'This operation specifically focused on fancy licence plates as well as licence plates that do not comply with regulations under the law. 'Off the 330 summonses issued, 48 were for fancy licence plates, 47 for non-regulation licence plates, and 235 for other offences,' he said in a statement today. He said the use of fancy licence plates on vehicles is an offence under Section 14(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM3,000. At the same time, Mohd Farhan reminded all road users to ensure their vehicles have valid road tax and insurance, as well as regulation licence plates, and to always comply with traffic laws. 'Continuous monitoring and enforcement will be carried out to ensure road safety and curb irresponsible behaviour on the road,' he added.
