
Op Pelbagai: 330 summonses issued for non-standard licence plates, other traffic offences
MIRI (Aug 4): A week-long traffic enforcement operation here ended Sunday with police issuing a total of 330 summonses for various offences.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, dubbed Op Pelbagai, saw 509 vehicles and 571 individuals checked from July 28 to Aug 3.
The operation was conducted by the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, involving a senior officer and 13 personnel.
'This operation specifically focused on fancy licence plates as well as licence plates that do not comply with regulations under the law.
'Off the 330 summonses issued, 48 were for fancy licence plates, 47 for non-regulation licence plates, and 235 for other offences,' he said in a statement today.
He said the use of fancy licence plates on vehicles is an offence under Section 14(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM3,000.
At the same time, Mohd Farhan reminded all road users to ensure their vehicles have valid road tax and insurance, as well as regulation licence plates, and to always comply with traffic laws.
'Continuous monitoring and enforcement will be carried out to ensure road safety and curb irresponsible behaviour on the road,' he added.
He also said any information or complaints regarding traffic offences can be channelled to the district police headquarters by calling 085-433400 or via the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application. enforcement operation Op Pelbagai traffic summonses

7 siblings orphaned after parents killed in car crash
KINABATANGAN: Seven siblings were left orphaned after their parents were killed when the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree at Km 121, Kampung Paris 1, yesterday. The couple, both aged 34, sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at 3.43pm at Hospital Kinabatangan. The driver of the car, meanwhile, is receiving treatment at the hospital for severe injuries. "The car reportedly lost control, skidded and hit a tree on the left shoulder of the road," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian today.
