Nashville, 3 other Tennessee cities named among best in US. Here's why
Nashville was one of four Tennessee cities named by real estate and tourism consulting firm Resonance Consultancy as among the best in the U.S. Nashville clocks in at 22nd on the Best Cities report, a ranking of the 100 top-performing U.S. cities with metro populations of 500,000 or more. Music City is sandwiched between Phoenix and Tampa on the list, and New York City tops the rankings overall. The rankings are based on factors ranging from the number of Fortune 500 companies and nightlife experiences to the volume of check-ins and mentions on Facebook and Instagram, along with surveys of 2,000 U.S. adults on the cities where they'd most like to live, visit or work. The consulting firm lists its full methodology on its website. Here's what to know about why Nashville made the list. Here's how the consulting firm introduces Nashville on the list: 'The hospitality and revelry that defined Nashville for decades has finally returned.' Nashville's status as Music City appears to be a key reason why. The consulting firm says Nashville is 'firing on all cylinders' both with big annual events like CMA Fest and Bonnaroo and newer shows and attractions like the Rock Hall at the Ryman exhibit. But those aren't the only reasons Nashville nearly cracked the Top 20. The firm also praised 'massive developments' like Nashville SC's Geodis Park, the 'city-building ambition' behind the opening of more than a dozen hotels over the next two years and a major expansion at Nashville International Airport. The firm highlights Nashville's status as a health care innovation hub that's home to more than 500 companies. After Nashville, Memphis is the next-highest finisher on the list at 72nd, followed by Chattanooga at 80th and Knoxville at 91st. These 3 Texas cities ranked among the world's 100 best. Is your city one of them?
Perhaps your city claims one of the best new restaurants, or best overall restaurants in the country. Maybe it was even named one of the best U.S. cities to live in. But the true test of greatness is on the global scale. Resonance Consultancy, a real estate and tourism consulting firm, has released a report ranking the top 100 best cities in the world. Three Texas cities earned a spot on the list. Resonance Consultancy shares that its methodology combines core statistics from more than 400 global cities and resident and visitor perception indicators like user-generated ratings and reviews. The company analyzed the principal cities of metropolitan statistical areas with a population of more than 1 million. It used several factors to determine each city's ranking, from "the number of Fortune 500 companies and ease of airport connectivity to the number of nightlife and outdoor recreation experiences and the volume of check-ins on Facebook and mentions on Instagram." Three Texas cities found a spot within the top 100, beating out some domestic cities like New Orleans and Nashville as well as international metropolises like Hong Kong and Warsaw. Houston claimed a spot in the top half of Resonance Consultancy's list, making a name for itself as New Yorkers and Californians keep moving to the city on the Gulf Coast. H-Town scored impressively high in a couple of categories: Its George R. Brown Convention Center ranked sixth in the world, and it snagged third in the global list for its parks and recreation. Its diversity also earned high marks in the "culture" category, coming in at No. 34. With over 145 languages spoken in Houston, it keeps pace with New York, according to the latest census data. Next year, it will open the first Ismaili Center in the U.S. and the seventh in the world. Houston also ranked considerably high for economic wealth. It placed ninth in the world for GDP per capita and 14th for the number of Fortune 500 companies in the town. "Houstonians make more and can sock more away. While hometown companies like ConocoPhillips and Exxon Mobil have ensured that 40% of Houston's economy is tied to oil and gas, the energy talent in the city has also made it an unlikely green power destination." Resonance Consultancy noted the Texas capital's "progressive spirit and strong university presence," which lent itself to ranking 13th in the educational attainment category. Austin is also listed as 13th for its parks and recreation. As "a hub for innovation and talent," Austin has also become quite appealing to large corporations like Tesla, Whole Foods and Dell. New high-rises and the Wilson Tower have transformed downtown living. "These mixed-use developments bring with them luxury living, office space and retail, signaling Austin's transition into a more urban metropolis." On the other hand, Austin's rapid growth also means less available office space and high costs for housing. Like Austin, Dallas has also seen significant population growth in recent years. Between 2021 and 2022, the Census Bureau reported a net increase of over 170,000 people — the largest population increase of any U.S. metro area. Also similar to the Texas capital, Dallas claims an astounding number of corporate headquarters. With upwards of 10,000, it has the largest concentration in the country. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is the third-busiest in the world, with nearly 82 million passengers in 2023, and thus ranks fifth in the world for airport connectivity. "This is the home of America's sixth-largest LGBTQIA+ community. And on 20 square blocks of mixed-use space, institutions like the Dallas Museum of Art and Crow Museum of Asian Art join theaters and symphony and opera venues to power the city's #46 Culture ranking." England's capital, London, once again reigned supreme in the 2025 World's Best Cities ranking, securing the top spot for the 10th year in a row. "Navigating the complexities of a post-Brexit era, geopolitical uncertainties, and economic challenges, London's resilient spirit and unmatched global appeal have solidified its place at the pinnacle of our annual ranking," the ranking said. "It is the only city in this year's ranking to capture the top spot in an impressive seven of our 28 subcategories, from Nightlife and Museums to Instagram Hashtags."
