The First Night With The Duke – K-drama Episode 2 Recap & Review
The First Night In Their Lives
Episode 2 of The First Night With The Duke begins with a flashback to the night Sun-chaek met the prince. She excused herself to get some fresh air and wandered near the river. While there, she started thinking about the exciting moment when the two leads of the story meet and fall in love. As she drunkenly walks back, she trips, but the prince saves her from falling into the river.
Of course, Sun-chaek recognises him, but he draws his sword as she excitedly grabs him. She starts challenging him and suddenly kisses him out of the blue, remarking on how handsome he is. She starts talking about his internal anguish over killing people. She adds how she understands him and goes on to comfort him.
The Prince is shocked as no one has ever dared to look directly at him or challenge him like this. Somehow, one thing leads to another, and she and Prince Yi-beon share a steamy night.
Presently, Sun-chaek wakes up in Prince Yi-beon's bed with no recollection of the passionate night they shared. Prince Yi-beon leaves after getting dressed, but he warns her to stay put. On his way out, he asks his head servant to send a wedding proposal to Sun-chaek's family.
Meanwhile, Sun-chaek ignores the prince's warning and sneaks out of his compound. She ends up wandering in the street when Eun-ae finds her. Eun-ae invites her to have tea together. As they talk, Eun-ae thanks Sun-chaek for helping her the previous night.
The conversation turns to how Sun-chaek disappeared after her cocktails became a great hit. Eun-ae asks Sun-chaek to teach her. Distressed, Sun-chaek asks if Eun-ae has met the prince yet. Eun-ae explains she hasn't, and that she is scared to meet him, given the rumours surrounding him.
She suggests that the prince might have a vitality problem, and Sun-chaek jumps to the prince's defence. Eun-ae is surprised by the spirited defence while Sun-chaek starts mentally recalling her night with the prince. Eun-ae asks Sun-chaek to be friends, and the latter agrees. However, Sun-chaek worries over how the events of last night have changed the story. She bids Eun-ae goodbye and continues wandering the street in deep thought.
At the palace, Prince Yi-beon updates the king on the rebels from the Heuksa Clan. The king is concerned about getting China's approval and an official appointment. However, the prince suggests they focus on getting the people's approval first.
Unfortunately, the king ignores this advice and asks Prince Yi-beon to join and lead an envoy to China. The prince courteously refuses and explains he intends to get married. Initially, the king thinks he is joking. After seeing that Prince Yi-beon is serious, the king gives him three months to figure his love life out.
After Yi-beon leaves, the king asks one of his guards to keep an eye on Prince Yi-beon. Admittedly, the king thinks that the prince is acting strangely. Outside, Prince Yi-beon runs into the King's mother. She suggests that he attend her banquet to pick a wife, but Prince Yi-beon turns her down. He seems wary of the King's mother and quickly leaves. One of the maids informs the King's mother that Prince Yi-beon brought a woman home the previous night. The King's mother hints that there is bad blood between her and Prince Yi-beon because of something that happened in the past.
In the meantime, Wool-yi finds Sun-chaek roaming the streets. She quickly informs Sun-chaek that her family is currently out, but the prince's wedding proposal has arrived. Sun-chaek and Wool-yi rush to stop the messenger from delivering the message. On the way, they run into Prince Yi-beon. Out of desperation, Sun-chaek stands on his way and is nearly hurt by his horse. Thankfully, Prince Yi-beon manages to dodge her.
The two talk, and Prince Yi-beon insists that they must take responsibility for what happened. He is set on marrying her after spending their first night together. Sensing that talking to the prince is a lost cause, Sun-chaek asks for time to tell her family.
The Prince gives her three days and warns her not to try to run away. He tells her that he will accuse her of treason if she does. Sun-chaek pictures her family being led to their execution thanks to her stubbornness.
A short while later, Hwa-seon visits Sun-chaek to confirm if the rumours about her and the prince are true. To defend herself, Sun-chaek makes things worse. In the end, Hwa-seon vows to get her revenge. Meanwhile, Su-gyeom grows curious about Prince Yi-beon's attitude change. At the same time, the head servant advises Prince Yi-beon not to use force to win over Sun-chaek's heart.
Unfortunately, Sun-chaek refuses to heed the Prince's warning and comes up with multiple plans to escape him. All of her plans to leave the capital fail. The prince knew she would try to run and planned accordingly. After all her attempts to escape fail, Sun-chaek figures she will make the prince fall out of love with her.
She tries to present herself as dirty, but this fails. She then tries to present herself as a worldly woman with expensive taste, but this also fails. She uses a compatibility test to show they are cursed if they get married, but the prince doesn't change his mind. Lastly, she tries to become a monk, but he stops her. He reveals to the head monk that Sun-chaek is no longer a virgin and forces her to give up being a monk.
After failing to lose favour with the prince, Sun-chaek tries to escape at night. Unfortunately, she runs into thieves in the middle of the forest. Su-gyeom comes to her defence and walks her back home. He invites her to join his Seonmun club. It is a drinking club disguised as an astrology club.
Sun-chaek agrees to attend once since Su-gyeom insists she must teach him how to make cocktails. As they talk, Prince Yi-beon appears and declares that Sun-chaek can't join the club.
Su-gyeom is puzzled and asks why. The prince goes on to say that he will forbid the unmarried people in town from meeting, as he has to protect something. Suddenly, Sun-chaek's brothers arrive home drunk. They are startled to see Prince Yi-beon, especially after he refers to them as brothers-in-law.
He is about to explain in detail when Sun-chaek tries to intervene and faints. Prince Yi-beon pushes Su-gyeom out of the way to make sure Sun-chaek falls into his arms. Everyone is shocked while Sun-chaek internally ponders if death is the only thing that will save her from the obsessive prince.
In the epilogue, we see Prince Yi-beon confront the thieves who attacked Sun-chaek. However, he spares their lives as he hurries to catch up with her and Su-gyeom.
The Episode Review
Sun-chaek is so funny. She went from a supporting character to the female lead after spending a night with the prince. Now, he won't let her go, and she has no idea what will happen next. She wanted to write the book herself, so she'd best get to it! I wonder what she will do next.
The prince doesn't seem like a bad person, and she might be better off by his side. After all, a moment like this doesn't come easily in life! On a side note, if you were sent as a character in one K-Drama, which one would you pick?
This episode delivers another entertaining watch though. The First Night With The Duke is slowly becoming our weekly favourite show and after this double bill of episodes, it certainly looks to be cementing its place as a mainstay. If they maintain this pace, we will have another historical K-Drama hit on our hands!

Our Movie – K-drama Episode 1 Recap & Review
Episode 1 Episode 1 of Our Movie begins with the screening of a movie. Je-ha and Da-eum are the only ones watching the credits roll. Da-eum believes that with every ending, there is a new beginning. At present, Je-ha's directorial debut is a big hit. It is a launch pad for its producer, Bu Seung-won and its lead actress, Seo-yeong. But its press event is interrupted by the news of Je-ha's father's death. Despite being a respected director, Je-ha ends up in a slump for 5 years. Seung-won has a new project for him but he keeps turning down. It is a remake of 'Love in White', Director Lee Du-young's magnum opus. He also happens to be Je-ha's father. We learn that Je-ha hates his father and was in a relationship with Seo-yeong, who later married someone else and divorced. Seung-won forces Je-ha to attend his new movie screening and it is awkward. Je-ha calls out colleagues who gossip about the nudity and the lead actress, Seo-yeong. The movie's director, Park, is a sensational filmmaker who is obsessed with nudity and love scenes. Seung-won and Seo-yeong convince Je-ha to stay for the afterparty. Park is rude and Je-ha calls him out for his sensational moviemaking style. Park retorts by calling Je-ha a nepo baby. As Je-ha leaves, Seo-yeong wonders how they have ended up the way they have. Next, we have Da-eum, a bubbly and cheerful girl who hangs around a hospital. She likes to record things with her handycam and befriends everyone. She accidentally ends up filming Je-ha after he leaves the afterparty. She offers a grape drink as an apology. Once he leaves, her friend teases her as she has been single all her life. The friend also frets on learning that Da-eum fell from her cycle. They later discuss outfits for an important occasion. There is a 'Love in White' screening and both Je-ha and Da-eum end up watching it. While he hates it, he is surprised to see Da-eum crying. She runs off and eats a meal after a timer goes off. She befriends an old lady and finds her all the more beautiful since she has aged. As for Je-ha, he runs into the actress of 'Love in White'. She is apologetic but he doesn't cut her any slack as she and Du-young made the movie the moment his mother died of an illness. On top of that, the movie is about a terminally ill patient in love. He finds the story inauthentic and the actress begs him to read the first draft. He heads to his family home which he has finally gotten back after paying off his father's debt. Flashbacks show Du-young as a busy man with no time for his wife and child. Je-ha enters his study and is shocked to see that the first draft of 'Love in White' is by Yu Eu-nae, his mother. Another flashback shows Du-young taking credit for it, laughing at some scenes and working on it with his colleagues. At present, Je-ha is trying to pitch a script when he learns that Director Park is being considered for the 'Love in White' remake. Horrified, Je-ha finally agrees to the remake. He also confesses to Seung-won that he needs to make the remake better than the original for his mother's sake. Elsewhere, Da-eum runs into Seo-yeong filming a scene and she is enamoured. She imagines herself in Seo-yeong's place but gets a reality check when her timer goes off. She sits down to eat and is shocked to see Seo-yeong taking her break on the same bunch. Da-eum is awkward but valiantly shooes away fans and Seo-yeong is touched. As they chat, Da-eum reveals that she films pretty sights in case she can never see them again. In exchange, Seo-yeong confesses her job is a test of endurance such as filming an underwater scene even though she is scared of water. A month later, Je-ha is stuck on the rewrites and hates how his father made the heroine submissive. A talented AD turns down directorial projects just so she can work with Je-ha. The studio is eyeing Seo-yeong for the lead but her agent hates Je-ha. The consultants working on the script aren't great and Seung-won finally approaches Dr Kim, Da-eum's doctor. Kim is quite different as he insists that every terminally ill patient is different. He doesn't like how nonchalant Je-ha is and decides to introduce him to another consultant at a funeral of a terminally ill patient. While Je-ha waits, Da-eum comes in crying and pays her respects. They end up on the same table and later he overhears her requesting the funeral director to change the decor into something bright and wedding-like. She keeps crying and he offers her tissues. He is weirded out by the whole ordeal as she comments how they have run into each other thrice. At the end of Our Movie Episode 1, she introduces herself as a terminally ill patient and his new consultant. The Episode Review Our Movie Episode 1 starts off pretty meta and we are not surprised since the whole premise is about a director and a terminally-ill patient making a remake of a movie about a terminally-ill patient in love. But despite the pretty melancholic concept, the chapter is far from dull, courtesy of the stylistic shots, the peppy music and overall conflict involving Je-ha's family and peers. It is a visual treat with the constant symbolism involving the contrasting colour palettes of Je-ha's monotonous scenes vs Da-eum's bright atmosphere, the retro handycam that Da-eum prefers and Je-ha's sepia-toned flashbacks to his childhood. And while we are definitely sure that this K-trauma will force us to bring out our tissues pretty soon, the movie-making drama is bound to keep things engaging and suspenseful. From Du-young stealing his terminally ill wife's script to Je-ha's ex, Seo-yeong, being pushed into his path, there's definitely a little something for everybody. Expert Judi James said that while Sam was smiling and happy, and get along with the other players, One Direction star Louis seemed "glum" and "separate". She told The Mail: 'There seems to be more of a playground dynamic growing from the body language here. "Sam seems to be very much part of the core group, sitting central and being the center of their attention while Louis walks by looking glum at times and rather peripheral to the social interaction. "As the guys club around Sam, who looks deep in the discussion, Louis seems to glance over with a rather hard-looking stare. "His eye direction might not be exclusively aimed at Sam, but he does seem to be checking the group out with an unsmiling facial expression." Louis Tomlinson admits feeling nervous ahead of Soccer Aid as Zara's ex Sam Thompson awkwardly hovers behind him Continuing she said: "When the two men meet on the pitch there is an unsmiling, reflective-looking gaze from Louis. "This shouldn't be over-dramatized into any form of specifically directed 'hard stare' as his eye direction does not seem to be aimed directly at Sam, but there could be seen to be a hint of some kind of 'atmosphere' brewing here. "With his hands on his hips, Louis does look really down and perhaps rather uncomfortable." 7 The expert said that Louis appeared to 'distance' himself from his other team mates Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 7 Sam pulled out of Soccer Aid yesterday Credit: PA 7 Sam completed his Match Ball Mission for Soccer Aid Unicef, running and cycling from Stamford Bridge in London to Old Trafford in Manchester Credit: Splash SAM QUITS SOCCER AID Meanwhile, yesterday The Sun exclusively revealed how Sam was no longer able to take part on Soccer Aid tomorrow. 'He's still going to be a presence and play a big part in the coverage but he won't be able to compete on the field.' They added: 'There is a small blessing in his withdrawal as the focus on him and Louis will disperse. 'Their every move will be watched so it's a relief in some ways they won't be on the pitch together.' Sam will play a 'ceremonial role' in tomorrow's match, kicking off the game before heading into the stands. Soccer Aid kicks off tomorrow night at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX
