AP signs MoUs with TIPSA, SYSTRA to fast-track metro projects in Vizag, Vijayawada
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr P Narayana at the APCRDA office in Vijayawada.
As per the agreements, TIPSA will oversee design and supervision for the Vijayawada Metro Rail project, while SYSTRA will handle technical aspects and execution support for the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Narayana said the projects are being taken up as part of commitments under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. He blamed the previous regime for stalling metro progress and claimed the current administration is fast-tracking the initiatives.
He said 20% of the cost will be borne by the Central government, 20% by the State, and 60% through a low-interest loan facilitated by the Centre. Vizag Metro's Phase 1 spans 46.23 km, with tenders already invited. Vijayawada Metro's 35.04 km Phase 1 tenders will be floated shortly. To optimise space, double-decker corridors have been planned—20 km in Vizag and 4.7 km in Vijayawada.

Tamil Nadu launches ‘School of Semiconductor' initiative to build future workforce for country
In a pioneering move for India's technological landscape, the Tamil Nadu government is coming out with a 'School of Semiconductor' initiative . As the first intervention under this initiative to address workforce readiness, a Centre for Advanced Semiconductor Technologies — powered by a first-of-its-kind in situ semiconductor fab processing facility in India — has been conceptualised and driven by the Government of Tamil Nadu, in partnership with IIT Madras and leading corporate partners in the semiconductor sector. Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister said: 'With this initiative, our focus is on developing human capital in this sector and building a globally competitive semiconductor workforce in Tamil Nadu. From fabless design to equipment manufacturing, from R&D to startups, and from technician training to advanced engineering, we are creating opportunities for every layer of talent. Our vision is to make Tamil Nadu the singular, indispensable source of highly-skilled talent required for the booming semiconductor industry across the nation and the world.' The Minister also said that the department of Industries and the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation will work together on this. The Government of Tamil Nadu will support this initiative with an initial seed grant of Rs.100 crore. This facility will include a small-scale production-grade fab to jump-start local capability, drive advanced research, and support continuous skilling, localisation of technology, prototyping, productization, and incubation of startups. The initiative will also explore collaborating with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. The proposed centre will be located at the Central Polytechnic Campus in Chennai. The centre proposes to train over 4,500 candidates through specialised modules in a 2–6-week period. The facility will focus on translational research with practical application in priority sectors such as electric vehicles, data centres, and space technology. In addition, the government aims to promote semiconductor growth through workforce development across all levels (from technicians to managers), localisation of technology and manufacturing, prototyping and commercialising innovations, interdisciplinary R&D with strong industry collaboration, development of diamond-based advanced power electronic devices and support for semiconductor-focused startups.

NBCC Inks MoU with Department of Post for land redevelopment across India
NBCC (India) has announced the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Post, Government of India, for the development of various land parcels across the country. According to an exchange filing, the agreement was formalized on 30 July 2025. Under the arrangement, NBCC will execute the projects using its self-sustainable redevelopment model. As part of the engagement, the company will serve as the Project Management and Marketing Consultant to ensure the optimal monetization of postal land assets. The value of individual projects will be assessed and disclosed on a case-by-case basis, NBCC stated in the regulatory filing. NBCC (India) is in business and operates in three major segments, namely project management consultancy, real estate, and engineering procurement & construction. The company's consolidated net profit advanced 29.27% to Rs 175.92 crore on a 16.17% rise in revenue from operations to Rs 4,642.55 crore in Q4 FY25 over Q4 FY24. Shares of NBCC (India) rose 0.28% to Rs 108.45 on the BSE.

Minister Narayana studies Amaravati's future blueprint
Singapore: Minister for municipal administration and urban development, Ponguru Narayana, is currently on an extensive tour of Singapore, diligently studying various aspects crucial for the development of Amaravati. The Andhra Pradesh government had previously decided to build Amaravati as a smart city, mirroring Singapore's urban planning and infrastructure. Minister Narayana, a key figure in the capital's construction, is observing Singapore's best practices to transform Amaravati into a world-class city. On Thursday, Narayana, accompanied by CRDA commissioner Kannababu, visited several key locations and held separate meetings with various authorities to gain insights. In the morning, he focused on waste management practices in Singapore. Officials briefed him on the measures taken by the Singaporean government for solid waste management, and the Minister inspected vehicles used for waste transportation. He closely observed the process of collecting waste using modern technology and its transfer to waste-to-energy plants. The Andhra Pradesh government is reportedly considering establishing similar units in the state for the scientific processing of chicken waste. Later, the minister met representatives of the Singapore Land Transport Authority. This authority oversees surface transport facilities, infrastructure development, and road construction in Singapore, as well as public transport systems, walking tracks, and cycling paths. Officials provided Minister Narayana with a detailed overview of Singapore's current transportation network. The Andhra Pradesh government plans to construct roads, walking, and cycling tracks in Amaravati, similar to Singapore's model, and the Minister gathered crucial details regarding these constructions. In the afternoon, Narayana and CRDA commissioner Kannababu held discussions with officials at the Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). The URA plays a pivotal role in Singapore's development by making crucial decisions, designing government buildings, and overseeing land management. The authority has also formulated a master plan for Singapore's development for the next 15 years. Narayana also visited the JTC Poultry Processing Hub in Singapore, which stands as the city-state's first one-stop poultry processing unit. He studied the entire process, from live chicken handling to processing, packing, and delivery. He also observed units that produce other products from chicken waste, an area the Andhra Pradesh government is keen to explore for scientific waste processing in the state. In the evening, he visited the iconic Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, renowned for its massive vertical gardens. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is prioritising beautification in Amaravati, and mjinister Narayana decided to consider incorporating the concept of Singapore's vertical gardens into Amaravati's beautification plans. Minister Narayana is scheduled to continue his visit in Singapore on Friday before departing for Malaysia in the evening.
