Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, additional municipal commissioner, PCMC, said, 'We have identified over 1 lakh properties, including 34,000 tax defaulters. While the tax recovery campaign has been successful, we will launch strict action against those who have dues pending for more than 5 and 10 years.'
Officials said that 112,809 residential property owners in the city have outstanding dues amounting to ₹310 crore. For those who have not paid their taxes for over 5 to 10 years, the civic body plans to seize high-value household items such as cars, televisions, refrigerators, and other luxury goods.
Avinash Shinde, assistant municipal commissioner (tax department), PCMC, said, 'PCMC has already collected ₹522 crore in the first quarter of the year—a record performance—and has set an ambitious revenue target of ₹1,300 crore for 2025-26.'
The civic body has 18 divisional offices currently engaged in tax collection. Notices have been issued to defaulters along with their property bills. Officials have warned of seizure of movable assets and, in extreme cases, properties if dues are not paid.

Two aerospace corridors have been proposed in State, says Industries Minister

Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development M.B. Patil has said that the State government has proposed setting up aerospace corridors at two locations in the State. And, he met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the purpose. Speaking to presspersons at Hubballi Airport on Thursday, Mr. Patil said that after farmers opposed land acquisition in Devanahalli, the State government proposed two aerospace corridors, Hubballi-Dharwad-Vijayapura and Kolar-Chikkaballapur-Bengaluru. 'We met the Defence Minister in this regard and he has promised to take a suitable decision,' he said. To a query, the Minister said that while they will welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inauguration of the Metro project in the State capital, it is also necessary to note that the State government has contributed its share to the project. 'Taxes collected from State go to the Centre. Why should we not take credit for the project,' he asked. Mr. Patil said that they hoped that there will be no protocol violation this time like the one that happened during the inauguration of Sigandur bridge. Regarding the Supreme Court's observation on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Patil said that the Supreme Court should not have made such a comment on the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. To another query, Mr. Patil said that the land price fixed by the KIADB has increased because of the higher price demanded by farmers. As farmers are approaching courts seeking higher compensation, increasing the price of land has become inevitable, he said. The Minister also mocked the recent statement on tariff made by American President Donald Trump and recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he (Mr. Trump) is a good friend of his. However, a Prime Minister of one country should not indulge in the political affairs of another nation during his visits there, Mr. Patil claimed.

50% tax waiver for properties in PCMC red zone from next fiscal

1 2 Pune: The PCMC on Tuesday decided to offer a 50% discount in general tax for properties in the red zone from the next financial year, prompting protest from several housing societies. The tax waiver proposal was approved in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)'s standing committee and general body meetings. A senior official from the property tax department said the decision, effective from April 1, 2026 (for the 2026-27 fiscal), would apply only to property owners who clear all their pending dues. Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh told TOI that the civic body was unable to provide many facilities like schools and sports facilities to the residents in the red zone area. Hence, offering them some concession in the property tax was under consideration. "The residents will get a 50% waiver on the general tax component mentioned in the property tax bill," he said. According to officials, a 2,000-yard area around Dehu Road Ordnance Depot and a 1,200-yard area around Dighi Magazine Depot are considered red zones. Construction activities are prohibited there, as per the Works of Defence Act, 1903. Avinash Shinde, the assistant municipal commissioner and the head of the PCMC's property tax department, said the waiver would be applicable to non-residential properties, including industrial units operating from Talawade. Over 3,000 industrial units in and around Talawade are in the red zone area. While the civic body hopes to recover long-pending dues from property owners in the red zone through this move, housing societies strongly opposed it. "This is an injustice to those who pay their taxes regularly. We also do not receive adequate facilities from the municipal corporation despite paying taxes," said Sanjeevan Sangle, the chairman of Chikhali-Moshi Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Societies Federation, after writing a letter to the municipal commissioner over the issue. Sangle said offering a discount for properties in the red zone was like promoting unauthorised constructions because all these structures are illegal.
