DUBAI (ALETIHAD)His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, chaired a meeting of the Defence Council, where he stressed the importance of strengthening efforts, fostering teamwork, and deepening collaboration to release the leadership's vision for advancing the UAE's defence capabilities. His Highness praised the steadfast support of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and his commitment to equipping all units with cutting-edge defence systems and technologies, ensuring their full readiness to serve the nation.The meeting focused on ways to strengthen military and institutional strategies while emphasising the importance of developing and enhancing capabilities across the Ministry's various departments.
Visit to the National Defence College His Highness also visited the National Defence College in Abu Dhabi. Upon arrival, he was received by Brigadier General Saeed Hassan Al Yamahi, Commander of the National Defence College, along with several senior officials. He was briefed on the College's academic programmes offered to both military and civilian personnel, and its curriculum designed to develop future national leaders. During the visit, His Highness also met with officers enrolled in the 12th National Defence Course (2024–2025), discussing their academic experience and reaffirming the leadership's support for excellence in all fields of national service.His Highness affirmed that the National Defence College is a leading academic and strategic institution, crucial to preparing national leaders with the insight and skills to make informed decisions, protect national achievements, and navigate future challenges. He also praised its role in advancing strategic thinking and fostering cooperation between the military and civilian establishments.
His Highness was accompanied by His Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Lieutenant General Engineer Issa Saif bin Ablan Al Mazrouei, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces; and Lieutenant General Ibrahim Nasser Al Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence; along with senior officers and officials from the Ministry.

Qatari Labour Ministry delegation reviews Oman's trade union system
MUSCAT: Nabhan Ahmed al Battashi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW), along with federation specialists, received a delegation from Qatar's Ministry of Labour. The delegation was headed by Hamad Faraj Dalmuq, Assistant Under- Secretary for Expatriate Labour Affairs and Khamis Mohammed al Nuaimi, Assistant Under-Secretary for National Workforce Affairs in the Private Sector. The visit aimed to review Oman's trade union framework and national labour regulations, as well as the GFOW's mandates in key areas. These include organising trade union representation for workers, providing legal support and advocacy for labour claims while explaining relevant procedures and exploring the GFOW's local and international partnerships to improve workers' conditions. During the visit, two presentations were delivered. The first provided an overview of Oman's trade union structures, covering the GFOW, sectoral unions and trade unions. It highlighted 2024 training programmes and awareness campaigns, along with the distribution of unions across governorates and economic sectors. The presentation also addressed women's roles in trade union structures, the GFOW's complaint-handling mechanisms, key updates to Oman's Labour Law and Social Protection Law; and the GFOW's contributions through its memberships in local and international councils. Recent cooperation agreements aimed at improving workers' socio-economic conditions were also discussed. The second presentation focused on several key aspects, particularly the right to unionise in Oman and the legal framework for trade union work. This included laws established by Royal Decree, ministerial decisions and statutes governing the GFOW and sectoral unions and trade unions. India, Qatar push to double trade by 2030
India and Qatar are making 'steady, structured progress' on the commitments agreed upon during the landmark state visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to India last February, as both countries seek to double bilateral trade by 2030. Speaking on the sidelines of the recent launch of 'India Utsav 2025' at LuLu Hypermarket Al Gharafa, Indian ambassador Vipul emphasised that His Highness the Amir's visit created a positive trajectory of cooperation and partnership with India as the two nations seek to enhance economic, cultural, and political ties. Vipul noted that current bilateral trade has held steady, dominated by Qatari exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as crude oil, petrochemicals, and urea. 'The trade between India and Qatar is, of course, dominated by the energy exports... and the overall figure has been about $14bn for the last two years between India and Qatar. India would be the second largest trading partner of Qatar... and I think India would be the third largest exporter to Qatar,' Vipul explained. Emphasising both countries' trade and economic goals to achieve wider trade and investment links, he said: 'We decided at the time of the visit that we should double our bilateral trade by 2030. So we have to keep making efforts in that regard.' According to Vipul, both governments are committed to expanding their trade baskets, capitalising on 'complementarities' between the two economies, and fostering stronger business-to-business links to give further momentum to growing cooperative relations. The ambassador also outlined ongoing talks across a broad range of sectors, including food processing, ports, shipping, civil aviation, infrastructure, Information Technology (IT), banking, financial services, and emerging fields like startups and technology partnerships. High-level Qatari delegations to India and joint commission meetings are planned in the coming months to maintain momentum, Vipul also pointed out. Aside from key targets, such as doubling bilateral trade by 2030 and further enhancing Qatari investments in India, India and Qatar are also creating more opportunities for Indian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Qatar, according to Vipul. He said: 'It was decided that there should be further enhancement of Qatar investments in India...I also see a good opportunity for enhancing our partnership in startups and technology companies as well.' The ambassador added: 'We have to take advantage of those complementarities... 18 Aug 2025 13:21 ABU DHABI (WAM)His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has laid solid foundations for the sustainability of humanitarian work, making it a national priority and placing it at the core of its a statement marking World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on August 19, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed stressed that the UAE is contributing effectively to strengthening the response to humanitarian crises through innovative programmes that provide sustainable solutions for community Highness noted that foreign humanitarian aid has become an integral part of the UAE's journey, free from any non-humanitarian considerations, whether ethnic, religious or Highness stressed that foreign humanitarian aid is a cornerstone of the UAE's path, offered on the basis of neutrality and humanity, without regard to ethnic, religious or sectarian Highness Sheikh Hamdan said that World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity to reaffirm the UAE's commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the humanitarian field, stressing that escalating global challenges require collective efforts and unified visions among nations and Highness pointed out the UAE's continuous efforts to reduce poverty, hunger and malnutrition, and to alleviate suffering in countries facing humanitarian and development crises by providing basic needs, particularly food, which remains the first line of defence against diseases, epidemics, displacement and this regard, His Highness cited recent international reports showing that over 305 million people in 72 countries require humanitarian aid, while around 400 million children are living in conflict ERC Chairman urged the international community and United Nations agencies to intensify efforts, enhance partnerships and strengthen coordination on programmes and initiatives that support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the eradication of poverty and Highness also appealed to donor organisations to increase their support for specialised humanitarian institutions to enable them to fulfil their role amid the difficult economic conditions currently facing the world. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan affirmed that the ERC has recently expanded the scope of its relief operations and enhanced its response to escalating humanitarian crises in a number of countries in the region, guided by its noble mission and principles that place human beings and their needs at the forefront of priorities.
