Egypt completely safe from possible radiation leak amid Iranian-Israeli military escalation: ENRRA

CAIRO – 14 June 2025: Head of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority' (ENRRA) Dr. Sami Shaaban stated that Egypt is completely safe from any radiation leak that might occur as a result of military operations in the region between Iran and Israel.
In comments to Youm7, He emphasized that there are no threats to the country and the authority is closely monitoring the situation to reassure citizens around the clock.
He continued that radiation monitoring devices in Egypt have been operating 24 hours a day for many years, noting that most of the information circulating on social media is inaccurate and unscientific.
Israeli has launched airstrikes since June 13, 2025 against Iranian several sites, including nuclear facilities. Damages occurred to Iranian nuclear facility of Natanz without leakage of radioactive or chemical contamination outside it. Also, Israeli launched strikes against Isfahan nuclear facilities several times but no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported so far according to the United Nation nuclear watchdog 'the Interntaional Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'
On Friday, the ENRRA announced that it is closely monitoring the radiological situation and recent developments at Iran's Natanz nuclear facility.
The authority also stated that it is tracking all radiation-related developments through Egypt's national radiation monitoring, early warning, and reporting network, which spans all governorates.
Iran launched a devastating missile attack on central Israel on early hours of Saturday in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes earlier that day targeting Tehran and Iranian nuclear facilities. The Israeli strikes reportedly killed hundreds, including military leaders and nuclear scientists.
Dozens of Iranian missiles fell on Tel Aviv, causing widespread destruction to residential buildings and forcing hundreds to evacuate their homes. Three Israelis were killed and more than 170 others injured so far according to the Israeli MDA Ambulance amid continuing the military escalation between the both sides.
Iranian TV reported that about 60 civilians, including 20 children, were killed in yesterday's Zionist attack on a 14-story residential complex in Tehran. Other more than 70 Iranian were killed on Friday. Also, Iranian media outlets reported that besides killing military leaders and nuclear scientists by the Israeli strikes on Friday, more military leaders in Iran were killed including General Gholam Reza Mharabi, deputy head of the intelligence department, and General Mehdi Rabbani, Deputy Chief of the Operations Department of the Iranian Armed Forces.

Later, Madbouly visited Wadi El Natrun Hospital, where the Health Minister outlined expansion plans aiming to transform it into a regional healthcare hub. Addressing the regional geopolitical developments, Madbouly described the Israeli-Iranian conflict as a 'highly dangerous escalation' that could destabilize the entire region. 'Nobody knows how far this conflict might go,' he warned. 'While it is a bilateral confrontation, it could quickly spiral into a wider regional, and even global crisis.' He noted Egypt's firm stance in condemning the recent aggression and emphasized that the government is preparing for all potential scenarios. Madbouly confirmed that he had been in direct contact with the Governor of the Central Bank and the ministers of petroleum and mineral resources, electricity, and finance to monitor the situation, particularly its impact on the energy sector. Reiterating a previous commitment, Madbouly said, 'We will not resort to load-shedding,' adding that immediate precautionary steps had been taken due to disruptions in natural gas imports essential for power generation. He stressed the government's strategy to avoid electricity outages, especially during the summer. Egypt has accelerated its plan to bring in floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) to ensure energy supply. 'Last summer, we had one FSRU. This year, we will have three with triple the capacity,' Madbouly explained. Two of these units are currently being prepared in Ain Sokhna and Alexandria, and will be fully operational by late June and early July, respectively. Combined, the three FSRUs will provide up to 2.25 billion cubic feet of gas per day, significantly boosting supply reliability. Additionally, fuel oil (mazut) reserves have been doubled compared to the same period last year, ensuring a secure energy backup for power plants. Madbouly urged the public to share in the responsibility of energy conservation: 'We are all in the same boat. The government is doing its part, and we call on citizens to be mindful of electricity consumption to help us avoid blackouts.' On the geopolitical front, the premier warned that the current conflict is likely to persist for some time, adding that Egypt has decided to postpone the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum to the last quarter of the year. 'Given the instability, we found it appropriate to delay this major global event until conditions allow for the international momentum it deserves.' He expressed hope for de-escalation, warning that any further deterioration could lead to a full-scale regional war with 'devastating consequences' for all involved.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps mourns 7 commanders killed in recent Israeli attack
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Sunday the deaths of seven of its commanders, who were killed alongside the Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, Brigadier General Amir Hajizadeh, following an Israeli attack on Friday morning. This was reported by the state-affiliated Mehr news agency.
