Former YSRCP MLA faces heat for making political comments at Tirumala

Hans India4 hours ago
Tirumala: The sanctity of Tirumala has once again come under focus after former YSRCP legislator and maternal uncle of former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Pochimareddy Ravindranath Reddy allegedly made political statements during his visit to the hill shrine, despite a ban on such activity.
Ravindranath Reddy offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple on Sunday morning. But moments after stepping out of the shrine, he spoke to the media, launching a sharp attack on the ruling coalition and commenting on ongoing political developments.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) board had only recently passed a resolution strictly prohibiting political speeches, allegations or propaganda in Tirumala to preserve the temple's spiritual atmosphere. Officials say this was done to ensure that faith and politics remain separate in one of the country's most revered pilgrimage centres.
In his remarks, Reddy alleged that the Telugu Desam-led alliance was 'misusing power' in the run-up to the Pulivendula ZPTC by-election.
He accused the government of resorting to intimidation of YSR Congress workers and residents, engineering irregularities, and even making arrangements for cross-village voting to influence results.
He claimed voter turnout was being deliberately suppressed through unlawful means.
The former MLA also criticised the State's flagship 'Super Six' scheme, claiming it had failed to deliver on promises and had led to a decline in crop yields. He went on to assert that the people of Pulivendula were firmly behind the YSRCP and that the current political climate was unlike anything seen since Independence. Reddy even suggested that if Jagan Mohan Reddy had wished, leaders like CM N Chandrababu Naidu and deputy CM K Pawan Kalyan would not have been able to file their nominations in the 2024 elections.
TTD's Vigilance and Security Department has taken note of Reddy's comments. Sources indicate that the board is reviewing the footage and may soon issue a show-cause notice, asking the leader to explain why action should not be taken against him for flouting the 'no politics in Tirumala' policy

Free bus travel in Andhra for girls, women, transgender persons from Aug 15

All girls, women, and transgender persons holding Andhra Pradesh domicile are eligible for free bus travel under the 'Stree Shakti' (woman power) scheme, to be launched statewide on August 15, Principal Secretary (Transport, Roads & Buildings) Kantilal Dande said on Monday. 'Beneficiaries include all girls, women, and transgender persons with domicile status in Andhra Pradesh, subject to presenting valid identity proof,' Dande said in a government order. The scheme will be implemented using the existing fleet of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), with additional buses to be procured based on demand, he added. Free travel will apply only to Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Metro Express, and Express services. It will not cover non-stop services, interstate operations, contract carriages, chartered services, or package tours. Saptagiri Express, Ultra Deluxe, Super Luxury, Star Liner, and all air-conditioned services are also excluded, he said. For passenger safety, the government is considering equipping staff with body-worn cameras and installing CCTV cameras in all buses. Bus stations will see upgraded amenities such as fans, chairs, drinking water, and toilets. Dande said the procurement of electric buses and extending the scheme to them could also be considered, subject to Cabinet approval. Beneficiaries will receive zero-fare tickets, which APSRTC will submit to the government for reimbursement. Free bus travel for women was a poll promise of the TDP-led NDA government ahead of the 2024 elections. The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 1,942 crore annually—about Rs 162 crore a month—and aims to empower women by improving access to education, jobs, and mobility, Minister K Parthasarathy had earlier said.

BJP Govt, Election Commission Completely Lost Plot: Karnataka CM On Detention Of INDIA Bloc MPs During Protest

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday accused the BJP-led Central government of "weaponising" police against the INDIA bloc MPs instead of "addressing rot" in the electoral system, as "exposed" by Rahul Gandhi. He made the remarks after the Delhi Police today detained INDIA bloc MPs, for protesting against the poll body over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegation of "voter fraud" during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "The cowardly Narendra Modi Govt and a compromised Election Commission have completely lost the plot. After Shri Rahul Gandhi exposed massive voter fraud in Bengaluru, instead of addressing the rot in our electoral system, the BJP is weaponising the police to detain those demanding accountability," Siddaramaiah wrote in a post on X. Rahul Gandhi on August 7 held a press conference, where he claimed that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were "choreographed" by the EC to benefit the BJP, which he said appeared "immune to anti-incumbency." Today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other senior INDIA leaders were detained for marching peacefully to the ECI against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and the growing pattern of electoral malpractices," Siddaramaiah said. Continuing his tirade over the government's actions, Siddaramaiah said, "A government that silences the Opposition rather than letting the ECI do its constitutional duty is a government that fears the truth - and fears the people." Earlier today, Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Mallikarjun Kharge and other Opposition MPs, shortly after they began their protest march from the Makar Dwar of the Parliament. The MPs were raising slogans of "vote chor" as they marched towards the office of the poll body at Nirvachan Sadan, before being halted by the Police. The detained MPs were taken in a bus to the olice station. Rahul Gandhi said that the Opposition's fight is not a political fight but a fight to save the constitution. "The reality is that they cannot talk. The truth is in front of the country. This fight is not political. This fight is to save the Constitution. This fight is for One Man, One Vote. We want a clean, pure voters list," the Congress leader said. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi said, "Dare hue hai. Sarkaar kaayar hai. (They are afraid, the Government is a coward)," BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused the Congress of misleading the public. "The country can see if there is anyone who is working against the Constitution, it is led by Rahul Gandhi. SIR is not happening for the first time in the country. Congress lies about EVMs, raises the issue of Maharashtra elections, Haryana elections and creates a mountain of is their well-thought-out strategy to create a state of anarchy...I appeal to the Opposition and the Congress party to raise all issues in discussion on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, the Opposition and Congress had no agenda..."

Karnataka Minister K.N. Rajanna asked to resign: CMO sources

Karnataka Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna has been asked to resign, sources in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's office said on Monday (August 11, 2025). 'Rajanna has been asked to resign,' a top source in the Chief Minister's office told PTI. Amid rumours of the resignation, Rajanna went into a huddle with the CM in the Vidhana Soudha. There were reports that the Minister had been asked to resign by the party High Command following his claims that irregularities in voter lists occurred during the Congress-led tenure 'right in front of our eyes'. Addressing reporters in Tumkuru, Rajanna had asked why Congress leaders 'turned a blind eye' over irregularities in voter lists and kept silent when they should have raised objections. The Karnataka leader's remarks come in the wake of the controversy that erupted after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi alleged massive electoral fraud in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and said there are over 1 lakh fake votes in the electoral rolls in Bengaluru Central lok Sabha constituency. Earlier today, state minister Rajanna sparked a row by saying that irregularities in the electoral rolls occurred while the Congress was in power. 'Look, if we just start talking about such things casually, there will be different opinions. When was the voter list prepared? It was prepared when our own government was in power. At that time, was everyone just sitting quietly with eyes closed? If we speak casually, we'll have to say many things,' Rajanna said. He further agreed that electoral fraud did happen in Mahdevpura, the constituency segment Rahul Gandhi focused on in his press conference in August 7. However, the Karnataka Minister said that the party which should have raised objections then had kept silent then and was talking about it now. 'When the draft electoral rolls are made, we must file objections -- that is our responsibility. At that time, we kept quiet and now we are talking,' he added. Rajanna, a Siddaramaiah loyalist, has been in the news for the past two months when he claimed that there will be an 'August Revolution', hinting at a major upheaval in the government.
