Karnataka Government May Name Metro Station After Field Marshal KM Cariappa
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Sunday that the state government is considering naming a Namma Metro station after Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa. He said that the decision would be discussed and finalized in consultation with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
He emphasized that both he and the Chief Minister were open to honoring Cariappa's legacy and would take up initiatives that reflect his contributions.
Shivakumar said these words during a felicitation event organized by the Kodava Samaj. The event was held to express gratitude to the government for granting them seven acres of land.
Shivakumar praising the Kodava community by highlighted their significant contributions to various fields, such as politics, sports, the judiciary, and the armed forces, among others. He noted that several Kodavas have served as MLAs, Rajya Sabha members, and MLCs under the Congress party and acknowledged their importance in Karnataka's political landscape.
He encouraged the community to support the government, reaffirming their intention to ensure political representation for Kodavas in the state.

Perform in the local body polls or perish: Revanth warns ministers
Hyderabad: The performance of the ministers in the upcoming local body elections will be a litmus test for them. Those who fail to achieve the desired results in the crucial elections w ill face the consequences. This was the hard-hitting warning served by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to his cabinet colleagues during an informal meeting with them here on Monday. The local body elections, release of Rythu Bharosa funds and implementation of Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, Indiramma houses and other welfare and development programmes initiated by the state government came up for discussion during the meeting. The Chief minister explained about the Congress strategy to defeat the opposition in the ensuing elections and winning most of the local bodies, especially Grama Panchayats, Mandal Parishads, Zilla Parishad and municipalities. Hinting at the release of a notification for the local body elections later this month, Revanth Reddy cautioned the ministers that the party high command will take a call on their continuation in the cabinet based on their performances in the local body elections. Sources said that the ministers brought to the fore some challenges being faced by them in some Assembly constituencies where the local leaders are unhappy due to delay in filling nominated posts. They also urged the CM to release funds to complete pending works that were taken up in local bodies to avoid ground-level resentment that could impact the poll prospects. The ministers were also given the responsibility of coordinating with the local MLAs and providing necessary support to address the local issues before the election notification was issued. The Chief Minister urged the ministers to take up a campaign on the implementation of the schemes at the gross-root level, mainly disbursement of the Rythu Bharosa benefits, selection of beneficiaries under Indiramma, Rajiv Yuva Viaksam and release of funds to women self-help groups. The ministers have been asked to organize special meetings with women groups and convince them to support the Congress in the ensuing local body elections.

Punjab: Majithia's close aide Sabi joins Congress
Three leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal, including Sarbjot Singh Sabi, considered a close confidante of Bikram Singh Majithia, joined Congress on Monday. The other two leaders are Rajinder Deepa from Sunam and Anil Thakur from Mukerian. They were inducted into the party fold by the Congress general secretary and in-charge Punjab affairs Bhupesh Bhagel in the presence of the state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, leader of Opposition in Punjab assembly Partap Singh Bajwa and other senior party leaders. Sabi, 47, had unsuccessfully contested the 2022 assembly election from Mukerian constituency and bagged nearly 30,000 votes. Sabi had joined Akali Dal at a young age and was appointed circle president of SAD when he was barely 22. He went on to become Hoshiarpur district president and Doaba zonal president. He also remained chairman of Hoshiarpur zila parishad. The move has come as a big jolt to SAD, which is struggling to resurrect itself after suffering setbacks on political and panthic fronts. Sources close to Sabi said Majithia was in the know of his decision. Along with Majithia, Sabi had openly opposed the unceremonious removal of Giani Raghbir Singh as Akal Takht jathedar, which had irked SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Talking to HT, Sabi said that SAD leadership itself was responsible for the party's downfall and it has lost the trust of the Sikh community. 'I had urged Sukhbir long back to seek forgiveness from the community for the wrongs but he did not pay any heed. Even today he has not mended his ways,' Sabi said, alleging that the SAD leaders were now trying to cosy up with the BJP, a party they abused all these years. 'It is difficult to work with such two-faced people', he said. Sabi said that the Congress still worked within a system and its biggest asset was its secular credentials. Asked if he would seek Congress' ticket for the next assembly polls, he said it was for the party to decide. 'My job is to work and I will put in my best efforts', he added. Bhagel said it's a sign that Congress is making a comeback in Punjab. 'Coming events cast their shadow,' he remarked while suggesting that senior leaders from other political parties were looking forward to joining the Congress. 'This is just the beginning as the winds of change have started blowing in Punjab', Warring said, adding that people of the state were fed up with the current AAP regime. Bajwa said that the three leaders would further strengthen the Congress in Punjab.
