Technology won't replace workforce, assures Labour Minister Mandaviya
Mandaviya's remarks come amid growing global concerns about automation potentially rendering millions of jobs obsolete across various sectors. However, the minister maintained an optimistic outlook, arguing that technological advancement will create new opportunities rather than eliminate existing ones.
"Even after the emergence of AI or technology, the requirement for workforce or manpower will always be there because the technology will be operated by humans only," he reiterated, highlighting the complementary relationship between human skills and technological capabilities.
Dr Mandaviya further stated that industries need to change with time and adopt new developments. The government, he added, is taking a holistic approach to ensure economic growth along with new employment generation. Speaking on the new

, the Minister said that the government launched the scheme to ensure new jobs.
"It is a long-term plan, and India needs to establish its own parameters to meet global parameters. From 1st August, the scheme will be rolled out," he added.

His comments underscore the rapid integration of AI tools in workplace management, from recruitment processes to performance evaluation systems, suggesting a fundamental shift in how organisations operate.

Vaiko urges Centre to find permanent solution to fishermen issue in Palk Bay
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) urged the Union government to take immediate steps to secure the release of all Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan authorities, along with their boats, and to hold talks with the Sri Lankan government to retrieve the Katchatheevu island. According to a press release, Mr. Vaiko, while speaking in the Rajya Sabha, drew the attention of the Centre to the increasing number of mid-sea arrests of fishermen from Tamil Nadu by the Sri Lankan Navy at Palk Bay. A total of 150 fishermen had been arrested since the beginning of this year, he said. Their families were facing severe financial distress and forced to pay hefty fines imposed by the Sri Lankan authorities to secure the release of their relatives, Mr. Vaiko said. The Sri Lankan Navy continues to act aggressively, violating the traditional rights of the Tamil Nadu fishermen. To prevent such arrests in the future and to protect the rights of the fishing community, the Union government should find a permanent solution to this issue, he said. Further, the Union government should exert pressure on the Sri Lankan government to provide compensation to the families of those killed by the Sri Lankan Navy in the last 10 years and to those whose boats were damaged, he added.

Not govt but NGT has banned use of old vehicles in NCR: Gadkari
New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said the government has not prohibited plying of old vehicles, and it was the National Green Tribunal which banned use of diesel and petrol vehicles beyond a certain age in the NCR. The vehicle scrapping policy of the government does not ban use of 15-year-old vehicles, Gadkari said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha. He further said that the Supreme Court has directed the transport departments of states in the National Capital Region (NCR) that all diesel vehicles more than 10 years old and petrol vehicles more than 15 years old shall not ply in terms of order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) dated April 7, 2015. The road transport and highways minister said that the government has formulated the Voluntary Vehicle Fleet Modernization Program (V-VMP) or Vehicle Scrapping Policy for creation of an ecosystem to phase out unfit and polluting vehicles in an environment-friendly manner. "Under this for private vehicles plying in States/UTs other than Delhi NCR, determined based on their fitness status, as certified by the Automated Testing Stations (ATS)," he said. In respect of vehicles registered in the name of governments, the usage will expire after 15 years, Gadkari added. Responding to a separate query, the minister said till date, 13,795 black spots have been identified on National Highways. The minister said rectification of black spots is a continuous process, and temporary measures are taken on an immediate basis. "Out of total 13,795 black spots identified on National Highways (NHs) in the country, short-term rectification has been completed on 11,866 black spots and long-term rectification has been completed on 5,324 black spots," Gadkari said. Replying to another question, he said the Dehradun-Delhi Access Controlled highway with a total capital cost of ₹ 11,868.6 crore is targeted for completion by October 2025.
