East Lothian RNLI crew stars in BBC series highlighting emergency responders
East Lothian RNLI volunteers were momentary stars of the screen in a recent BBC feature.
Viewers of BBC Two on Thursday, August 14 may have caught a glimpse of the local heroes in the latest episode of 'Saving Lives At Sea'.
Three North Berwick RNLI crew members were featured. Fraser, Vikki and Matt spoke about how quickly situations can change between the "pager going off and the lifeboat getting to the location of the emergency during a shout", according to North Berwick RNLI.
Saving Lives at Sea is in its tenth season with the second episode featuring East Lothian's very own North Berwick lifeboat crew.
The episode showed the volunteers helping a 10-year-old boy after he was swept out to sea on a paddleboard and his parents attempted to rush to his aid.
A post on North Berwick RNLI's social media read: "Eagle eyed viewers of BBC Two last night may have have caught a passing glimpse of three of our crew in the latest episode of Saving Lives At Sea!
"Fraser, Vikki and Matt were speaking about how quickly the situation can change between the pager going off and the lifeboat getting to the location of the emergency during a shout.

The show tells the stories of RNLI crews from up and down the country, as they respond to everything from sinking ships to tidal cut-offs or kayakers in distress. Last year, lifeboat crews rescued 8,259 people and saved 352 lives.
Vikki Selby, volunteer crew member at North Berwick who was featured in the episode said: 'I'm thrilled that North Berwick features again in such a long-running and respected series alongside our fellow lifesavers from across the RNLI.
"For my family it'll be an extra exciting episode as my brother Steven was also on the lifeboat for this rescue, so we'll both be on the TV! When the public visit the station we hear how much they appreciate a chance to see how their generous donations are used to help save lives.
"We are incredibly grateful for their support, as it is what we rely on to save lives at sea."

'Intoxicating' thriller dubbed a 'true classic of the genre' streaming for free
The film remains a popular choice with fans An "intoxicating" thriller that has been dubbed a "masterpiece" and a "true classic" will be available to stream for free. The Silence of the Lambs was released in 1991 and despite its older release, remains a popular choice with fans. Starring two time Academy Award winners Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, the film follows FBI student Clarice Starling who is assigned to help on the search of a serial killer. She soon seeks the help of Dr Hannibal Lecter *the cannibal* who is held in a maximum security hospital. Dr Hannibal Lecter is a character created by American author Thomas Harris and has featured in the 1986 film Manhunter, but his appearance in The Silence of the Lambs is arguably the most famous adaptation. Both Hopkins and Foster bagged Oscar awards for their performances, with Hopkins scooping the Best Leading Actor award and Foster clinching the Best Leading Actress accolade at the 1992 ceremony. It also nabbed the coveted Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay awards. And the film remains a hit with fans with many describing it as a "masterpiece" and a timeless classic". The popular choice will be available to stream on BBC Two on Sunday evening (August 17), as well as BBC iPlayer. It is currently available to buy on prime Video. A synopsis reads: "FBI trainee Clarice Starling, enticing insights from confined killer Hannibal Lecter, shares her nightmare memory in the hope of stopping a serial killer before his latest victim dies. Comedian Milton Jones says he is ‘cancer free' after undergoing surgery
The 61-year-old, who is known for his appearances on cancelled BBC Two show Mock The Week, thanked the doctors and nurses who had helped him amid his treatment for prostate cancer and said he is 'in a completely different place' now. A statement from Jones to the PA news agency said: 'A few months ago, I had to stop my tour Ha!Milton because I needed treatment for prostate cancer. 'I'm glad to say I've had that treatment and am now cancer free! 'So, many thanks to all the doctors and nurses who helped me get better – I couldn't do their job (I tried, but apparently you have to be qualified). 'A big thank you to my family, friends, all those who helped reschedule things and the many others who have been so nice to me. 'Along with all those who have kept hold of their tickets for the shows that have been rescheduled and apologies to those whose shows we were unable to move. 'I have to admit there were a few dark moments when I wondered if anyone would ever see me again, but then I realised that I was leaning against the light switch. 'Thankfully I'm now in a completely different place, and if you look at my website, you'll see that very soon I'll be in lots of other different places on tour too – I hope to see you there.' In April, Jones announced his diagnosis in an Instagram post where he explained he would be needing time to recover after undergoing surgery. In the comments, Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, who has incurable stage four prostate cancer, said: 'Really sorry to hear it mate, best of luck.' A post shared by Milton Jones (@themiltonjones) The comedian rescheduled some of his summer gigs and has now announced more than 20 new dates to take place across September, October and November in cities and towns that include Exeter, Guildford, St Albans, Newbury, Crewe, Wrexham and Bury St Edmunds. His stand-up show, Ha!Milton, which is currently scheduled to end in November, is a play on words, making reference to the hit musical of the same name. The NHS says prostate cancer develops slowly, so there may be no signs for years, but says symptoms may include an increased need to urinate, straining while urinating and a feeling that the bladder has not fully emptied. Jones's career has seen him perform on Live At The Apollo, Lee Mack's All Star Cast and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow.
