Aamir Khan defends remakes amid Sitaare Zameen Par copied from Campeones claims: ‘Don't see if you don't want'

Mint2 days ago

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan came out in support of remakes ahead of his upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par's release. Talking to news agency PTI, Aamir talked about working on more than 10 remakes in his career which were all hits except for his last release, Laal Singh Chaddha.
"Like, Ghajini or if I've to start from the beginning of my career then Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, which is a remake of Romeo and Juliet. So, I have never had a problem till date in remaking because for me, it is a new canvas," Aamir said.
He added, 'I believe in remakes and I will do it all my life. Whenever I get a good remake, I will do it. Why shouldn't I do it? If you don't want to see it, then don't see it. It's your choice. My choice is to do it, your choice is to watch it.'
Citing example of Shakespeare, Aamir went on to ask about films, theatres and other art forms adapted from the playwright's work.
"He is gone, write your own play. Why are you doing 'Hamlet' again? Why do you want to say, 'To be or not to be'? The chatter about remakes, I don't know where it came from... Now suddenly, some trolls have launched it. Some of our biggest hits have been remakes. If a cut and paste is so easy to do, then you do it, it's just a cut and paste. But it's not a cut and paste thing, you've to put your life into it," he explained.
The actor went on to address comparison between his film, Sitaare Zameen Par and Campeones, but not directly.
He also said, 'I've seen this beautiful film, which is made in Spanish. Are you going to watch a Spanish film? I don't think you have ever seen a Spanish film in India, you must have seen one or two. But by and large, we don't watch it. What is needed is sensitisation for all.
"We should also be sensitised. We should also move forward, and that the topic of neurodivergence should become important for us too. In our country too, there should be a public discourse on it what is neurotypical and how we should behave? This is a very important topic for India. I'm very clear I have done the right thing."
Sitaare Zameen Par will release on June 20.

Aamir Khan Welcomes Sachin Tendulkar Home; Sitaare Zameen Par Cast Jumps With Joy

Last Updated: Aamir Khan welcomed Sachin Tendulkar home and introduced him to the Sitaare Zameen Par cast. The video is going viral. Aamir Khan welcomed Sachin Tendulkar home in the presence of well-known names from the film industry. As a video from their meeting goes viral, fans can't help but notice the joy on the faces of the newly-launched Sitaare Zameen Par cast after spotting the former Indian cricketer. Sachin, who is close friends with Aamir, arrived to meet him with his wife Anjali. After the video went viral, fans drew speculations about the setting of the meeting. While some social media users claimed it took place at Aamir Khan's house, others believed it happened after a special screening of Sitaare Zameen Par. In one video, a guest is seen informing Aamir that Sachin has arrived while the former was playing foosball, prompting him to warmly welcome both Sachin and Anjali. The moment the cricket legend appears, the other guests light up with excitement and begin chanting his name. Sachin, visibly humbled, remained calm as he greeted the guests and Sitaare Zameen Par cast one after the other. The superstar was last seen in 2022 film, Laal Singh Chaddha. 'Well, I'm not considering it a comeback film, quite honestly," Aamir told us exclusively. 'My films usually come out once in three years anyway. A lot of actors have 8 to 10 flops, but we don't call those comebacks, do we? I've had just one flop, and you're calling it a comeback? I haven't gone anywhere," he added. Aamir explained that he was drawn to Sitaare Zameen Par because its story felt like a natural continuation of the message delivered in his 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. 'The script felt like an extension of what we were trying to say in Taare. That film was about inclusion, about a child with a learning disability. But in Sitaare, the challenge is even greater. It deals with individuals who have intellectual disabilities—children on the autism spectrum, with Down syndrome—who are much more atypical compared to dyslexia. And what's even more beautiful is that this time, it's not the neurotypical person helping them, but the other way around. The neurodivergent kids help the coach. That's why I feel this film goes ten steps ahead in the same theme." Aamir added that the story resonated deeply with him, so much so that it felt like a 'spiritual sequel" to Taare Zameen Par, which is why the makers settled on the title Sitaare Zameen Par. Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by RS Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. Also starring Genelia Deshmukh and ten newcomers, the film is a remake of the Spanish film, Champions. It releases on June 20. First Published:

Without imposition, we will learn: Kamal Haasan on issue of imposition of language

Where does Kamal Haasan stand on the issue of imposition of Hindi in the south? "I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra," is his quick reply. The pan-India superstar's latest film "Thug Life", the 234th in a 65-year career, released in theatres this week amid controversy over his comment that Kannada was born out of Tamil. He refused to apologise and the film did not release in Karnataka. "I am the actor from 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'...," Haasan told PTI during a recent visit to the news agency's headquarters, referring to his 1981 hit Hindi film about a Tamil boy and his romance with his Hindi speaking neighbour. "Without imposition, we will learn. Don't impose, because this is ultimately education and we must take the shortest route to education... and not put hurdles in its way," the actor said. The ruling DMK in his home state Tamil Nadu has long opposed the three-language policy introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP). The party has repeatedly accused the BJP-led NDA government of attempting to "impose Hindi", a charge the Centre has denied. Stressing that the imposition of a particular language only hampers the learning process, the 70-year-old said, "I stand with Punjab. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover Effortless Glucose Monitoring: Request a Free Trial Dexcom Try Now Undo I stand with Karnataka. The Indian cinema stalwart, hugely popular in the south as well as in the north with films such as "Nayakan", "Thevar Magan", "Sadma", "Saagar" and Chachi 420" that bridged language divides, said if you are truly looking at "international breakthrough" you must learn one language. "And English seems to be fair enough. You can do Spanish also, or Chinese. But I think the most practical thing where the shortest route to that is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but steadily. So when you suddenly replace it, it's all over again. You make unnecessarily many people illiterate, especially in Tamil Nadu. "You suddenly force all through Hindi and you tell them that you will not get your job beyond the Vindhyas, then you start wondering, what about the promises? What about my language? Am I not one of the 22 (official languages)? These are the questions that are coming." Tamil is one of the 22 official languages of the country, apart from Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili and Dogri. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had said it would not let "Thug Life" release unless Haasan apologised for his Kannada-Tamil comment at a promotional event in Chennai. His banner Raajkamal Films International filed a plea before the Karnataka High Court seeking protection for the release of the film, which sees him reuniting with Mani Ratnam after "Nayakan" in 1987. After a rap from the court over the remark, the producers said "Thug Life" will not be released in Karnataka.
