Gracenote reports significant increase in sports content on global SVOD services in Q1 2025
NEW YORK, Feb. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Gracenote, the content data business unit of Nielsen, has reported that the streaming industry's leading global subscription video on-demand (SVOD) services, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix and Paramount+, have significantly grown their sports programming over the last quarter. These five providers collectively increased sports programs by more than 72% in the recent quarter, underscoring the value of sports as a driver of live, real-time viewership and critical component of their content strategies. This key insight, along with others, are captured in the latest update to the Gracenote Data Hub which provides a snapshot of global SVOD programming to illuminate content trends and changes over time.
Since the first Data Hub release in November 2024, sports programming, including exclusive NFL games, WWE RAW events, U.S. Open tennis tournament matches and more, has become increasingly available across streaming platforms. Notably, four of the five SVOD services tracked by Gracenote have bolstered their sports programming, led by Disney+ and Netflix, with increases of 471% and nearly 100%, respectively. While Apple TV+ did not increase its sports content in the recent quarter, that will change as the new MLS and MLB seasons get underway and live games air on the service.
Tapping Gracenote Global Video Data, the industry's most comprehensive database of TV show and movie information, the Gracenote Data Hub highlights video trends in a series of data visualizations that provide insight into the SVOD catalogs of Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix and Paramount+. On a quarter-over-quarter basis, these services have added 6.7% more content to their catalogs, with increases of 5.4% and 7.6% for TV and movies, respectively.

The increase in content across global SVOD services includes approximately 3,000 movies, 2,000 TV shows and 500 sports shows.
A dramatic increase in sports programming on Disney+, largely the result of adding select ESPN programming, has shifted the distribution of sports programming across the five services.
Disney+ now accounts for nearly 33% of available sports programming, just behind Amazon (35%), which previously distributed 54% of sports programming.
Netflix accounts for just over 23% of sports programming.
Overall, Amazon Prime Video remains the largest distributor of video content, offering nearly 69% of the available programming, up from 67.8% in Q1 2024.
An increase in French content and a notable decrease in content produced in India on Disney+ has made France the third-biggest producer, accounting for 5.6% of the total.
Drama remains the top genre across the five services, but it has dropped from the No. 1 position on Disney+, where it has been overtaken by documentary, comedy, children and adventure.

Oscar Isaac Teases MOON KNIGHT's Future in the MCU: 'Maybe We'll See Him in a Movie' — GeekTyrant
It's been a while since we last saw Moon Knight wreaking havoc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans have been waiting for any hint of what's next for Marc Spector and his wild crew of personalities. While a second season of the Disney+ series hasn't been officially greenlit, Oscar Isaac recently shared a cryptic but hopeful update that suggests we haven't seen the last of the Fist of Khonshu. During a fan convention appearance, Isaac was asked directly about a possible second season of Moon Knight , and he offered this short but intriguing reply: 'We'll see, maybe one day, or in a movie we'll see him [return].' That line's enough to keep the speculation train chugging along, especially since this isn't the first time Isaac has dropped vague teases. Back in 2022, shortly after the show wrapped its first season, Isaac was seen in a TikTok video alongside executive producer and director Mohammed Diab in Cairo. When Diab's niece asked about a second season, Isaac replied: 'Why else would we be in Cairo?' Naturally, fans assumed that meant season two was a done deal. Fast-forward to now, and things remain... complicated. According to Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, the studio's priorities have shifted when it comes to Disney+ series. He previously said: 'So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future. And moving forward, our priorities have shifted. We're making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television.' That's not a total shutdown, though. Winderbaum also confirmed, 'There are plans for Moon Knight down the road.' While he didn't spill any specific details, it lines up with rumors that the character could return in upcoming projects like Avengers: Secret Wars or the highly-anticipated Midnight Sons film. The Moon Knight Season 1 finale left things wide open. Not only did Marc and Steven finally reach some kind of peace, but we also met Jake Lockley, the third, and most brutal, persona. He and Khonshu eliminated Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke), but the ending hinted at much darker territory ahead. Whether it's on the small screen or the big one, Moon Knight 's story clearly isn't over, and with Isaac still game to put on the white suit again, fans just might get their wish. During Gamescom 2025, Prime Video revealed the first teaser trailer for Fallout season 2. Based on the popular video game franchise, Fallout became a hit for Prime Video, amassing more than 100 million viewers worldwide. Fallout season 2 premieres later this year, and the footage features the return of Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean and Walton Goggins as The Ghoul. Here are the five biggest takeaways from the teaser trailer. Welcome to New Vegas Lucy and the Ghoul journey across the Mojave Desert to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas, reconstructed from the ruins of Las Vegas. Video game players will recognize the location from the franchise's fourth entry, Fallout: New Vegas. Recommended Videos Lucy is interested in New Vegas because her father, Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan), fled there at the end of season 1. Lucy knows that Hank, a Vault-Tec executive, played a role in facilitating the nuclear apocalypse. Hank later bombed Shady Sands, which turned her mother into a ghoul. The teaser also shows Lucy will eventually cross paths with Maximus (Aaron Moten), a member of the Brotherhood of Steel. Meet Robert House In a flashback, Cooper Howard (Goggins), the Ghoul's former self, confronts Robert House, played by Justin Theroux. As the ruler of New Vegas, Mr. House convinced other corporate leaders to drop a nuclear bomb to ensure Vault-Tec reaped the profits. The footage suggests that House will explain the origins of the Great War. The scene in the teaser shows House sitting in front of several screens as he converses with Howard. 'I am the very best at what I do,' House tells Howard. 'And what I do is I know everything.' House is one of the most notorious villains in the Fallout franchise. The Ghoul's backstory In the flashback, House tells Howard, 'My concern is that you would do just about anything to save your family.' Before becoming the Ghoul, Howard was a Hollywood actor and Vault-Tec ambassador with a wife, Barb Howard (Frances Turner), and daughter, Janey (Teagan Meredith). Howard thought he had lost his family in the Great War. However, Barb was a Vault-Tec executive, meaning she could have had access to a Vault. In the present day, the Ghoul continues his search for Barb and Janey. He hopes to find his answers in New Vegas. First look at a Deathclaw At the end of the teaser, Lucy and the Ghoul come face to face with a Deathclaw, one of Fallout's most horrifying creatures. Deathclaws are a race of genetically engineered reptilian creatures that transform into apex predators in the wake of the Great War. Deathclaws originated in experiments run by the government to create new, non-human super soldiers. When a Deathclaw growls at the duo, Lucy turns to the Ghoul and says, 'I defer to you about what to do in this situation.' The Ghoul immediately runs away, with Lucy right behind as they sprint to safety. Fallout season 2 release date revealed The end of the teaser revealed a release date of December 17, 2025. Fallout is implementing a weekly release schedule, a significant change from season 1's rollout. All eight episodes in season 1 were released on April 10, 2024.
