QR code-based audio tours at tourist spots to take visitors on immersive digital journey

Time of India31-05-2025
Lucknow: In a major step to enhance tourist experience and promote cultural heritage, the Yogi govt is set to launch QR code-based audio tour portals and content at 100 key tourist destinations across Uttar Pradesh.
"This initiative aims to offer both domestic and international tourists a unique, informative, and immersive journey through the state's rich history, culture and natural beauty. The core feature of the project is the introduction of QR-based audio tours that provide 5 to 7-minute storytelling experiences about the significance of each location," officials said on Saturday.
These audio narratives will be available in 10 regional languages—Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, English, Kannada, Odia, and Malayalam—and 5 international languages—French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Mandarin—making the content widely accessible.
"To ensure a high-quality experience, the audio stories will be recorded by professional voiceover artists and feature background music and ambient sounds to bring historical and cultural contexts to life. Additionally, the platform will include accessibility features such as multilingual subtitles and high-contrast text for the hearing impaired," they said.
This project will cover 100 selected tourist sites like the Triveni Sangam and Anand Bhawan in Prayagraj, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi and Kanak Bhavan in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, the Taj Mahal in Agra, Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura-Vrindavan, and the Bada Imambara in Lucknow.

At these locations, weather-resistant QR codes etched on stainless steel will be installed.
Tourists can scan these codes to access the audio tours.
Asserting that the effort by the state tourism department is a big step towards making tourism modern and accessible through digital technology, officials further said: "The QR codes will be linked with the Uttar Pradesh Tourism website and mobile apps (both Android and iOS), allowing easy access to the content.
There will also be offline access available so that tourists can get the information even in low network areas.
"
To ensure the quality of the content, a team of historians, archaeologists and cultural experts from institutions like Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and the Archaeological Survey of India will review the scripts. This will ensure the information is historically accurate, culturally relevant and interesting for visitors.

Now, a single-train ride will take you to airport from Shahid Khudiram stn

1 2 Kolkata: Once full-fledged commercial operation begins on the Yellow Line, commuters who take the metro on the Blue Line will be able to travel straight to the airport without having to switch trains at Noapara. Metro Railway is planning to extend every third service on the Blue Line beyond Noapara to the airport on the Yellow Line, thereby enabling a passenger who boards the train at the airport to travel 35km seamlessly to Kavi Subhash without changing the train. With services to Kavi Subhash currently suspended, trains will operate between Jai Hind station at the airport and Shahid Khudiram for now. Sources in Metro Railway said planning was underway to operate one train to Dakshineswar, the next train to Noapara and the following train to the Airport once the Yellow Line becomes operational. While the original plan was to start commercial services from Monday after PM inaugurates the stretch on Friday, a host of observations made by the Commissioner of Railway Safety may force Metro Railway to push back the commercial operations to a later date. The Blue and Yellow lines are the only ones where seamless operations are possible at present. Though the Orange Line will also terminate at the airport, it is unlikely to allow a seamless journey on the onward Yellow track to Barasat via New Barrackpore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo In the existing scheme of things, Blue Line commuters have to switch trains at Esplanade to board the Green and at Kavi Subhash to board the Orange Line. The latter will eventually span 22 km to Barasat. "Every rake has two motormen, so the train can be driven in either direction. When the train reaches Noapara, the doors will open for Noapara-bound commuters to step out. As the doors shut, the rake, with only airport-bound passengers on board, will cross over to the other line," a source said. "The train from the airport will switch tracks here and continue along the North-South line, stopping at the various stations en route. It will terminate at the Shahid Khudiram and start its return journey afresh," he said. "Airport-bound passengers will travel on the same train they boarded from any of the North-South (Blue Line) stations with their single tokens for travelling across two lines. They will wait inside the train while it switches from the Blue Line to the Yellow Line, using the crossover at Noapara," an official said. The initial timetable was based on a 15-minute frequency for airport-bound trains via Noapara. "We are reworking the timings so that trains to and from the airport are available every 12 minutes," the source said. It should take around 30 minutes to travel from airport to Esplanade via Noapara. From Esplanade, it will take another half hour to travel to Shahid Khudiram station. New flyovers fail to clear Ranchi's traffic gridlock

1 2 Ranchi: Even after the inauguration of three major flyovers in the state capital, traffic chaos continues to plague Ranchi. Congestion on Ratu Road, Lalpur, Kutchery, and Kantatoli remains severe, while near Siramtoli, jams are routine because of the ongoing construction of a connecting corridor. "Every evening, it takes me 40 minutes to cover what should actually be a 10-minute ride. The flyover is good, but below it, the market is so crowded that traffic moves inch by inch," said Ramesh Singh, an autorickshaw driver who operates on Ratu Road. Daily commuters echo the same frustration. "We thought the Kantatoli and Siramtoli flyovers would cut down our travel time, but diversions and unfinished stretches only make things worse," said Anjali Mishra, who drives daily from Lalpur to Harmu. NHAI regional officer M T Attarde said, "We received reports suggesting a lack of public awareness. On Ratu Road, jams are caused by markets where supplies from other districts are delivered. To resolve this, we may have to talk to RMC for market arrangements. It will ease the traffic downside." Traffic jams near Siramtoli are caused due to the construction of the connecting flyover between Kantatoli and Siramtoli. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo People are forced to take diversions even for simple routes. "The half-finished connecting corridor between Kantatoli and Siramtoli forces vehicles to take long detours, funnelling traffic into already saturated by-lanes," said Ram Naresh, another auto driver. The 4.18 km-long Ratu Road flyover, built at Rs 291 crore was inaugurated in July 2025; the 2.4 km-long Kantatoli flyover, built at Rs 224 crore was opened in October 2024; and the 2.34 km-long, Rs 355-crore Siramtoli flyover launched in June 2025. Lalpur main road remains one of the city's worst choke points even after new flyovers. Vehicles pile up near the traffic signal because service lanes are narrow and encroached. "From Lalpur to Circular Road, it's a nightmare. Sometimes I'm late to college even though I leave 30 minutes early," said Priya Sharma, a student of St. Xavier's College. Business-class comfort on low-cost flights soon

Kolkata: Days after Emirates and Thai Vietjet announced four-class and three-class cabin configurations on their respective flights to Dubai and Bangkok, domestic carrier IndiGo Airlines announced a two-class configuration in its cabin on flights to Delhi and Mumbai. At present, Air India offers business class seats on its flights, while Air India Express has business class on select flights to Chennai, Bengaluru, and Jaipur. Travel agents in Kolkata said the introduction of business class on 11 flights to Delhi starting Sept 12 and on three flights to Mumbai from Sept 16 has triggered excitement among flyers. Executives, businessmen, and traders who prefer flying IndiGo because the airline offers the highest frequency on most sectors, said they were willing to pay more for better comfort. "Jet Airways set the benchmark in business class. Kingfisher also had a good product. After the two went bust, there was Vistara and Air India. After the merger, only AI had business class. But since it did not have many flights, passengers had to compromise on flexibility of travel to avail of it. The introduction of business class by IndiGo will make a big difference," said Travel Agents Federation of India national executive committee member Anil Punjabi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata | Gold Rates Today in Kolkata | Silver Rates Today in Kolkata SpiceJet does have a product called SpiceMax that offers greater legroom and priority check-in, but it is essentially a premium economy offering. While all 11 daily flights that IndiGo operates to Delhi from Kolkata will offer IndiGo Stretch, which includes meals and beverages, higher baggage allowance, and priority check-in, only three out of eight flights will offer business class. "As more aircraft with twin configurations are available, more flights to Mumbai will offer business class," said an official. In addition to Stretch, the airline has a Stretch+ offering that provides an even higher baggage allowance and lower cancellation fee. Travel Agent Association of India chairman (east) Anjani Dhanuka said the business class offering would do well as business class in Air India flights from Kolkata have an average occupancy of 65-70%, with some Delhi and Mumbai-bound flights going full. "At present, people who wanted extra legroom on IndiGo flights used to pay for first row or emergency seats. Those travelling to Delhi or Mumbai will now buy business class seats. There is also a good demand on the Kolkata-Bengaluru sector where IndiGo has 10 flights a day," he said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
