TV presenter Jay Blades appears in court charged with two counts of rape
The 55-year-old appeared via video link at Telford Magistrates' Court and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth at the six-minute hearing on Wednesday
Blades, from Claverley in Shropshire, was granted conditional bail to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on September 10.
The defendant found fame on the furniture restoration programme The Repair Shop after he started presenting in 2017.
A furniture restorer, he was the face of the popular BBC show that featured people having their treasured objects repaired and rejuvenated until he stepped back from presenting the programme last year.
Blades was also the presenter of the BBC's Money For Nothing until 2020 and took part in Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Bake Off, and Comic Relief.

Woman, 41, arrested on suspicion of murder after another woman, 57, found stabbed to death
A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after cops discovered another woman stabbed to death. Durham Police raced to an address on Bakewell Place, Newton Aycliffe, to discover the grizzly scene on Wednesday. 3 Cops were called to the property by the ambulance service after receiving reports that a woman had suffered stab wounds. A 57-year-old woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics. A 41-year-old woman was arrested at a separate address on suspicion of murder shortly after. Officers said they believed it was an isolated incident with an investigation into the woman's death ongoing. The force said residents should expect to see an increased police presence in the town. Police tape ringed the crime scene as the force began probing the incident. Officers in forensic suits were spotted at one of the properties as the investigation got underway. A Durham Police spokesperson said: "An investigation is ongoing and residents should expect to see an increased police presence in the town over the coming days whilst inquiries are carried out." 3 3

New Ferry: Homes on gas blast site 'building new community'
The first residents have moved into new apartments built on the site where an explosion ripped through a Wirral town eight years people were injured in a gas explosion in New Ferry which destroyed about 60 homes and businesses in March Blasio, who caused the explosion to claim insurance on his failing furniture business, was later jailed for 19 resident Debbie Jones said people living in the apartment blocks standing on the site of the blast were "building a new community". "It was terrible, awful thing to happen," she said. "I was speaking to a couple of the people who had shops here and it was devastating for them, they lost their businesses and had to start from scratch."It's nice now it's all regenerated," she said."It's a nice area loads of shops and people up and down the street, its building a new community, it's really good." The new apartments on Boundary Road and Bebington Road are on the land where the huge gas explosion happened over eight years are 24 one-bedroom apartments and 10 two-bedroom apartments in the first phase of the properties are a mix of affordable rent and rent to buy homes. Wirral councillor Jo Bird said it was "brilliant" to see people moving into the area."This is great news for New Ferry, it's been eight long years since the devastating explosion which made dozens of people homeless and instantly destroyed half a dozen businesses on the High Street," she second phase of the development, which will see a further 43 new homes built on Woodhead St, is planned to begin later this year.
