Stellantis looks to rev up India investments to increase market share
Stellantis
is considering a fresh round of investment in India, as the Dutch group that owns automotive brands like Fiat, Jeep, Chrysler and Peugeot aims to grow its retail network and launch new products in a market where its current share is under 1%. The company, the world's fourth-largest automaker, is also seeking to double its exports from India, said its top executives.
Stellantis, which has so far spent Rs 11,000 crore in India, said the extent of the new investment will be guided by the scope of its future programmes and the balance between domestic and export-focused operations.
India is a "long game" market that requires consistent investment, product relevance and deeper ecosystem integration, Stellantis India managing director Shailesh Hazela said, terming the India plans as part of a 2.0 strategy. "It is not an easy market where success comes quickly, but the fundamentals are in place. We're focusing on doing the right things that align with local needs," he told ET.
Japanese and Korean manufacturers have a majority share in India's automobile market, the third largest in the world.

and M&M are also significant players, accounting for nearly a quarter of sales between them.
Stellantis, which remains a marginal player in the local market, is taking a phased approach to expansion, focusing on back-end capability, localisation and select product plays, its executives said. Sustained growth though will depend on how well the company aligns its offerings with Indian consumer expectations and competitive pricing structures.
The company's current India line-up includes the Jeep portfolio and Citroen models like the C3 hatchback, C3 Aircross, and the recently launched Basalt. However, none have yet delivered volumes at scale. The firm's retail network and brand visibility lag its rivals.
While domestic sales remain modest, India is gradually emerging as a back-end for Stellantis' global operations. "India is the priority for the Asia-Pacific region," said Hazela. "If India is strong, the region benefits in terms of local production, cost competitiveness and speed of response to the market."
Last year, the company exported about 10,000 fully built vehicles, along with 300,000 engines and powertrains, from India. India currently accounts for roughly 2% of the group's global volume base of 5-6 million units. The component supply chain has also been significantly scaled up; it now works with 500 local suppliers.

Charles Leclerc snatched a surprise first pole position of the year for Ferrari at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday, beating both McLarens. Leclerc punched the air in delight as he climbed out of the car after beating Oscar Piastri by 0.026 of a second and the other McLaren of Lando Norris by .041. It's probably one of the best pole positions I've ever had because it's the most unexpected,' Leclerc added later. Pole position is usually a big advantage in Hungary, where overtaking is difficult, but Norris noted the chance that rain could spring some surprises for Sunday's race. 'I have no idea how it will go, but one thing for sure is that I will do absolutely everything in order to keep that first place,' said Leclerc, who's on pole for the 27th time in F1 but doesn't have the best record converting those starts into wins. He'll be seeking his ninth F1 victory Sunday. It was a stark contrast with yet another frustrating day for Lewis Hamilton in the other Ferrari. Hamilton has won the Hungarian Grand Prix a record eight times but qualified 12th as the seven-time champion's troubles in his first season with Ferrari continued. 'Every time, every time,' Hamilton told the team over the radio after he qualified outside the top 10 for the second straight race. That came after Ferrari's executive chairman John Elkann called it 'a rough season' in comments Saturday on the F1 website, and defended Ferrari's trust in team principal Fred Vasseur, whose contract extension was announced Thursday. Ferrari hasn't won a Grand Prix since Carlos Sainz, Jr.'s victory in Mexico in October, when the Spanish driver — now at Williams — also had the Italian team's last pole. Defending champion Max Verstappen was only eighth after struggling with the balance of his Red Bull, and his teammate Yuki Tsunoda was 16th. That piles more pressure on the Japanese driver, who hasn't scored a point in six races.

Rs 697cr disbursed to over 34.85L farmers in state under PM-Kisan
Bhubaneswar: A total of Rs 697 crore was disbursed to over 34.85 lakh farmers in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on Saturday. The state-level programme, held at ICAR-CIFA on the city's outskirts was attended by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferring Rs 20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country from Varanasi. Under the scheme, Rs 2,000 each was transferred directly to the bank accounts of farmers. Majhi said, "It is our govt's commitment to ensure the inclusion of all eligible beneficiaries under the scheme. No eligible farmer in the state should be left out," he said, adding that saturation drives are underway in all blocks. He emphasised the govt's pro-farmer approach, highlighting that over 50 lakh farmers are also receiving Rs 4,000 annually under the CM-Kisan scheme. Together with PM-Kisan, eligible farmers are receiving a total of Rs 10,000 per year, he added. Calling on farmers to diversify, Majhi asked them to practice fisheries and animal husbandry to boost income. "Your income will not just double but multiply many times," he said. St Xavier's School ordered to deposit Rs 2cr in FD amid fee dispute
Ahmedabad: St Xavier's School in Navrangpura was directed by the fee regulatory committee (FRC) to deposit nearly Rs 2 crore in a fixed deposit (FD) after it was found to have collected Rs 16,000 more per student than the approved fee. The committee issued a notice to the school and called for a personal hearing, during which this interim arrangement was made. According to reports, the FRC set the annual fees for the academic years 2024–25, 2025–26, and 2026–27. Compared to the previous year (2023–24), the committee reduced the fee for Classes 1 to 8 by Rs 16,859. However, the school continued to collect the earlier proposed amount of Rs 39,360 from students, prompting complaints from parents. In response, the Ahmedabad district education officer (DEO) ordered the school to refund the excess amount within seven days. The school, however, failed to comply, stating that it filed an appeal with the revision committee challenging the FRC's fee order. The DEO rejected this explanation, and the FRC issued a fresh notice, summoning the school for a hearing. This interim solution ensures the protection of student interests while the fee revision appeal is under review.
