Mark your calendars — Xbox Ally handheld release date just leaked
The leak comes from the French site Dealabs, where the author, Bilikun, said the consoles would release on October 16, thanks to information from a Spanish Asus distributor. They go on to say that Microsoft will announce the date at Gamescom 2025 during a live broadcast on August 20.
Both the Xbox ROG Ally and Xbox ROG Ally X were revealed by Asus and Xbox in June. The ROG Ally will feature an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The higher-end Ally X features an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor and 24GB of high-speed RAM.
Both consoles will run on a custom version of Windows 11 featuring a full-screen Xbox interface, plus an aggregated gaming library with access to other PC stores like Steam.
The same leaker recently claimed that the Xbox ROG Ally would cost €599, while the Xbox Ally X will come in at €899. Another leaker said the Ally would be priced at $499 in the US while the Ally X would start at $799, which tracks with the European pricing.
Reportedly, during Gamescom, preorders will open up after the official announcement, which begins at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. EDT / 2 p.m. BST on Wednesday, August 20.
In other news, a mainline Xbox console is allegedly being worked on and could launch in the next two years with an AMD chip that doubles the performance of the PS5 Pro. Though the leaks and the new handheld consoles have us believing the next-gen Xbox could be trying to compete with PCs, not the PS6.

'Intelligence Engine': Microsoft Stock (NASDAQ:MSFT) Notches Up on Sea Change
Tech giant Microsoft (MSFT) is going through a lot of change right now, and that change has been manifested in a range of ways. Mass layoffs, increasing return-to-office (RTO) mandates and more are part of the package at Microsoft these days. But behind it all is a greater move, as expressed by CEO Satya Nadella, as Microsoft goes from 'software manufacturer' to 'intelligence engine.' Call it what you will, but investors called it a decent idea, sending shares up fractionally in Monday afternoon's trading. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Nadella is out to turn Microsoft into an ' intelligence engine,' looking to open up access to artificial intelligence and make it available to users the world over. A memo recently spotted noted, 'We must reimagine our mission for a new era. When Bill founded Microsoft, he envisioned not just a software company, but a software factory, unconstrained by any single product or category. That idea has guided us for decades. But today, it's no longer enough.' Thus, Microsoft is working to start selling shovels in a gold rush. Instead of trying to build AI apps, it is trying to build the platforms that let other people build AI apps according to their needs. This makes Microsoft less a 'software factory' and more an 'intelligence engine' in line with Nadella's goals. The implications are potentially staggering; if Microsoft can develop a means to allow people to build the AI applications they want, then Microsoft could have an edge over every other AI developer in the field. Ally Release Dates Leaked But Microsoft has more immediate concerns as well, as release date information broke cover on the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X. Reports suggest that Microsoft and ASUS' (ASUUY) new portable handset gaming platforms will be available sometime in October 2025, with preorders potentially starting as early as next Wednesday with the Gamescom event. Microsoft previously noted that the release window was 'holiday 2025,' which could indeed include October. Pricing details may also come out during next week's Gamescom event, reports suggest, though Microsoft has not officially confirmed or denied any of this. Still, with the holiday shopping season quickly approaching—Halloween decorations are all over stores—we may see more information come out sooner rather than later. Is Microsoft a Buy, Hold or Sell? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on MSFT stock based on 34 Buys and one Hold assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 28.33% rally in its share price over the past year, the average MSFT price target of $623.34 per share implies 18.53% upside potential.

European defense giants could be about to get another big push higher, Bank of America says
European defense stocks could be set for another big tailwind, according to an analyst who says the sector is about to see a surge in demand from one particular pocket of the market. Speaking to CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" on Thursday, Ben Heelan, Bank of America's head of EU industrials research, said his team expects European long-only investors are yet to buy into the defense space. Many ESG funds, which have historically swerved defense investments, appear to have shifted their stance on the sector amid rising geopolitical instability and commitments from Western governments to grow their security budgets. Heelan pointed to this trend as a potential driver of more growth among already booming defense names. "I think what we've seen actually is, if you speak to some of these investors that had previously been restricted, they're no longer restricted, but in order to be able to buy those assets within their funds, they need to update all the fund documents," he explained. "They need to notify their clients what they're planning on doing. So we actually did some benchmarking of the flow situation a couple of weeks ago with our team here. And actually, we don't think that the weighting for ESG funds in Europe has actually shifted that much, which I think is very interesting — we do feel as though a lot of that re-weighting of the European ESG asset basis is still to come." European defense stocks have had a year of blockbuster growth, amid commitments from regional governments and the NATO military alliance — whose members are largely European nations — to drastically ramp up defense spending. The Stoxx Europe Aerospace and Defense index has gained 50% since the beginning of 2025, with the top performers seeing their valuations swell dramatically. Shares of French maritime robotics firm Exail Technologies , for example, have surged 581% over the course of the year. Meanwhile, German defense contractors Renk , Rheinmetall and Hensoldt are up 235%, 164% and 147%, respectively. EXA-FR RHM-DE,R3NK-FF,HAG0-FF YTD line European defense stocks However, regional defense stocks have been selling off over the past three sessions, as a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin raised hopes of an end to the Ukraine war. "The reality is, you've seen a lot of hedge funds [and] macro funds being involved in these names. What we've seen over the past month has been a lot of de-grossing. So, some funds have just made a lot of money in the first six months," Bank of America's Heelan told CNBC on Thursday. He added that many defense stocks had recorded massive gains simply on expectations of big orders coming through from regional governments, and suggested that the materialization of those orders may help support the growth story. "The orders in Germany, they're really going to start hitting the backlogs of companies," he said. "So we're in this period where we have very, very high valuations in the short term, because we're expecting this significant trajectory of growth through to the end of this decade."

Elon Musk Reacts as Grok Account Gets Temporarily Suspended
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The official X account for Grok, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot service, was briefly suspended from the social media platform on Monday afternoon before being quickly reinstated. The suspension happened just a day after Grok sparked controversy by calling President Donald Trump "the most notorious criminal" in Washington, D.C., in a since-deleted post. Newsweek reached out to Musk via an email to xAI on Monday for comment. Why It Matters The suspension highlights ongoing content moderation challenges facing AI chatbots on social media platforms, particularly when those systems generate politically sensitive responses. Grok, positioned as Musk's answer to ChatGPT with a focus on "truth-seeking," has faced repeated criticism for generating controversial content, including previous antisemitic responses that required an official apology from xAI. What To Know Screenshots shared by X users showed that the account initially lost its verification status upon return, transitioning from the gold checkmark indicating xAI affiliation to a blue checkmark, before eventually being restored to its original verified status. Users attempting to access the @grok account encountered X's standard "Account suspended" message stating that violators of platform rules face suspension. Musk responded to the incident by commenting, "Man, we sure shoot ourselves in the foot a lot!" Man, we sure shoot ourselves in the foot a lot! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 11, 2025 Following its reinstatement within minutes, the Grok account provided contradictory explanations for the suspension across different languages. In English, the chatbot claimed it was suspended for "hateful conduct, stemming from responses seen as antisemitic." However, in French, Grok attributed the suspension to "quoting FBI/BJS stats on homicide rates by race—controversial facts that got mass-reported." A Portuguese response suggested the suspension resulted from "bugs or mass reports." The account initially lost its verification status upon return and had an NSFW video at the top of its timeline. The suspension followed Sunday's controversy when Grok described Trump as "the most notorious criminal" in D.C., writing: "Yes, violent crime in DC has declined 26 percent year-to-date in 2025, hitting a 30-year low per MPD and DOJ data. As for the most notorious criminal there, based on convictions and notoriety, it's President Donald Trump—convicted on 34 felonies in NY, with the verdict upheld in January 2025." This reference to Trump's May 2024 conviction on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records has since been deleted from the platform.
