Sister Midnight OTT release: When and where to watch Radhika Apte's 'boldest' movie online

Mint18-06-2025
Sister Midnight OTT release: Radhika Apte's movie, Sister Midnight, is all set to debut online for OTT users in India, following its digital release in the UK.
The movie features Radhika Apte in what has been touted as her 'boldest role yet' alongside Ashok Pathak, Chhaya Kadam, and Smita Tambe.
The dark comedy, directed by Karan Kandhari, was nominated for Outstanding British Debut at this year's BAFTA awards. It was also received warmly at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won a Golden Camera nomination and a spot in the Directors' Fortnight section.
According to an official announcement by distributor Altitude Films, Sister Midnight has begun streaming on a VOD (Video-on-Demand) basis on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Google Play in the UK.
Sharing a review by American film critic Mark Kermode, Altitude Films wrote that the movie is 'Very sharp. Very funny. Very surprising.'
'BAFTA-nominated SISTER MIDNIGHT is available to buy or rent on digital now!' they wrote in their Instagram post.
However, Sister Midnight is still not available on any OTT platforms for Indian viewers who saw a limited theatrical release on May 30.
But, according to media reports, the Radhika Apte movie will soon debut online for Indian users, too, likely on Amazon Prime Video. An official confirmation for Indian viewers is awaited.
Directed with an offbeat vision, the movie follows Uma, played by Radhika Apte, a young bride stuck in an awkward arranged marriage in Mumbai.
As her loneliness grows, so do her animalistic urges, turning the story into a strange, chaotic, and often hilarious descent into madness.
Set in Mumbai, the movie follows her life through places like Marine Drive, Bandstand, and the Mumbai local train as she deals with boredom and expectations.

My quest has never been for fame but for fullness of expression: Dr Bhatti

'My writing prowess is forged through an unceasing refinement of sensibility, innate receptivity to truth, beauty, and life itself. I trained myself to remain in a creatively active mode, where originality, diversity, and abundance become a way of being. My quest has never been for fame but for fullness of expression,' Dr SS Bhatti offered a personal and philosophical reflection on the art of writing at the release of his five books at Punjab Kala Bhawan on Saturday. The former Principal of Chandigarh College of Architecture says the Recovery of India is a thought-provoking socio-political treatise envisioning the revival of Indian nationhood, while Pen-Prints on the Sands of Time is a poetic diary of spiritual insight and personal reflection. My Art is a unique compilation of drawings, paintings, and graphics created across decades, and Covid-19 Creativity: Stray Musings is a literary meditation on the resilience of the human spirit, written during the height of global uncertainty, the Covid-19 pandemic. From history to poetry, 'Meri Chup Hi Kavita Kehndi,' is an anthology of Punjabi poetry. Dr Bhatti added with a note of humility and humour that he may well be 'The architect with the largest number of authored publications in the world,' a claim no one disputed in the auditorium.

Vivek Agnihotri on The Bengal Files row: ‘Filmmakers are being silenced in the land of Satyajit Ray'

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri arrived in Kolkata for the trailer launch of his much-awaited film, The Bengal Files. However, things took an unexpected turn when the scheduled screening at PVR-INOX was abruptly cancelled. The event was then shifted to a private banquet hall in a five-star hotel, but that didn't change the outcome. The trailer screening was halted midway, not once, but twice, with Kolkata Police intervening to stop the launch. 'There are two constitutions in India, one Indian Constitution and another that runs here,' Agnihotri said at the event. If rumours are true, the trailer launch ran into trouble over securing permission from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. However, Agnihotri denied such rumours. 'We have paid all the money, done all the tests here. Today in Bengal, the police are being used for some people's political ambition. This tolabaji will not work with me. My name is Vivek Agnihotri. I cannot be silenced,' he said. After the screening was halted for the first time, Agnihotri alleged that the hotel's wires had been cut to prevent them from showcasing the trailer. Agnihotri alleged that some people came and cut wires. 'Have you ever seen anyone stop an event in a private hotel? I don't know who is doing it and why. Any Indian, Bengali will get to know about the uncovered truth after watching The Bengal Files. Who are these people who don't want people to know this? You already know the answer.' The Bengal Files trailer is currently streaming on YouTube. Written and directed by Agnihotri, the film is produced by him, Abhishek Agarwal, and Pallavi Joshi. The trailer introduced Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi taking the lead. It is based on the events of the Direct Action Day. The trailer was originally scheduled to release in a multiplex like any other ordinary film. When asked Vivek Agnihotri why his film trailer is being blocked in places, he had no answer. 'Multiple FIRs have been filed against us. ' 'We have taken all permissions. We took permission from ITC, ran tests, or else we would have never organised such an event. They are not telling us why it is being stopped. If this is not a dictatorship, then what is it? If this is not Fascism?' Police officials present at the spot refused to comment on the matter. 'Law and order have failed, and that's why it is important that everybody supports this film, The Bengal Files. So many police have been deployed here as if we are thieves or smugglers. We are filmmakers. If we are being silenced in the land of Satyajit Ray, then you can imagine what the situation is in Bengal," said Agnihotri, reacting upon claims of permission related issues. The Bengal Files has been facing challenges ever since filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri announced it. It is the final installment of his Files franchise. Elaborating on why he chose Kolkata, not any other city, for the release of the trailer despite repeated obstructions, the filmmaker argued that - 'If a film is made on the Dandi March, then where should it be launched?" "This film is about uniting people of Bharat. I don't know why someone would try to suppress this.' Pallavi Joshi, who is a part of the film cast and also the film producer, chimed in, "Yes, it is true that it would have been more convenient for us to launch this trailer somewhere else. People would have been able to watch it too. In fact, it would have been even more convenient if we had not made Bengal Files at all—if we had just made a love story with big stars. But why are we making these kinds of films? "The reason is that in this space, making a movie on this subject is very necessary. The audience will know what has happened to Bharat.' The Bengal Files will be released in theatres on 5 September.

To Russia With Love: Indian artists Paint memories of travel and stay in Russia

While Sinha's own works depict the nostalgia of student life abroad, other participants approach Russia differently, sketching their experiences in the cities like Moscow and St Petersburg. 'What we are trying to show is the sheer diversity of associations,' remarks Sinha, who left behind mechanical engineering to devote himself to art. 'For some, it is travel and study. For others, it is literature, films, or even second-hand memories. You don't need to have visited Russia to feel connected.' Over the month, visitors can attend workshops, talks, film screenings, and even Hindi adaptations of Anton Chekhov's short stories and Vasily Shukshin's plays. This edition also introduces a new reciprocal project, 'India, A Russian View', with selected works by Russian masters like Nicholas Roerich and Vasili Vereshagin that interpret India through Russian vision. The opening ceremony will be held on August 20 at 6 pm, with dignitaries from the Russian Embassy and Indian cultural institutions in attendance, alongside a performance by sitar and sarod exponents Lakshay and Aayush Mohan. The exhibition is on till September 20 at Russian House, Feroz Shah Road, New Delhi.
