Aaditya Thackeray asks why no action against construction firms after flood water gushes into Mumbai Metro station
A day after water gushed into the newly opened underground Metro station, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray asked why the Maharashtra government was hesitant in taking action against the Turkish firm Dogus that had constructed the stretch between Mumbai Central to Worli in association with Indian firm Soma.
Hardly 17 days after its inauguration, services on the city's first underground Metro were hit on Monday owing to floodwater gushing into the Metro stations. Passengers reported water cascading down the steps into the Acharya Atre Chowk station like a waterfall. The stations had been built by the consortium of Dogus-Soma.
'Why shouldn't Dogus be suspended like Celebi Airport Services? Isn't it a matter of national security?' Aaditya said.
He also cited a Safety Commissioner's report that allegedly mentioned 713 cracks in Phase 2 of Metro Line 3 and questioned how the line was inaugurated despite these concerns. 'We demand compensation for Mumbaikars whose shops and homes were inundated,' he said.
Raut echoed the criticism, alleging corruption in Metro project contracts and calling the early inauguration of the underground Metro a publicity stunt. 'The Metro work wasn't complete but was rushed for publicity. Around Rs 1,500 crore was allegedly taken from contractors as commission, and now it has gone down the drain,' he said, blaming the state government, the administration, and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde.
He further alleged that Rs 35,000 crore collected as 'commission' from BMC contractors is now being used to lure corporators for political gain. 'They've been in power for over three years—why weren't the drains cleaned before monsoon?' Raut asked.
Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Balasaheb Thackeray and Operation Sindoor, Aaditya said: 'Mumbaikars want answers—why has the BJP brought Mumbai to this state? Thousands of hectares are damaged, yet farmers receive no help. Why are cities like Mumbai, Thane, and Pune being ignored?'
Meanwhile, Shinde-led Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske hit back, claiming the Thackerays and UBT have no moral authority to criticise Shinde.
Mhaske alleged large-scale corruption during the Covid-19 pandemic under the UBT-led BMC. 'As Thane Mayor, we bought body bags at ₹350. BMC bought them for ₹7,000. The difference is clear,' he said.
Mhaske also contrasted UBT's past alliance with Congress to Shinde's current stature. 'During the MVA era, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi made UBT leaders wait outside. Today, Shinde had the honour of congratulating PM Modi and the Army at the NDA meeting.'

Delhi considers building elevated road over ring road to ease chronic congestion
N ew Delhi: With the city's Ring Road catering to heavier traffic than its capacity, Delhi govt is toying with the idea of building an elevated road over the existing 55-km stretch. PWD minister Parvesh Verma said he had already asked for a feasibility of such a project, with the proposed road to be built on pillars and connected with other arterial roads through ramps. Verma said he had discussed the plan with Union minister for road, transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and received a go-ahead from him. "This will be one of the biggest projects of this govt and will be completed within its term," Verma told TOI. The minister said that Delhi's two ring roads bear the maximum load of traffic and remain clogged during peak hours. Adding to the capacity of the existing road would help ease traffic on the existing one while also decongesting other roads that connect with Ring Road. "Since the new road will be entirely elevated, it can be built on pillars along the central verge of the existing road. "The cost of the construction of an elevated road comes to about Rs 100 crore per kilometre. This project can easily be completed at a cost of Rs 5,500-6,000 crore," the PWD minister said. Once a relatively efficient arterial corridor designed to decongest central areas and facilitate cross-city travel, Ring Road is now facing chronic congestion. Unlike the newer Outer Ring Road, developed later to redirect peripheral traffic, the inner Ring Road is buckling under mounting pressures. From urban sprawl and flawed planning to infrastructure saturation and enforcement gaps, a confluence of factors has brought the once-speedy corridor to a glacial pace. When Ring Road was originally planned in the 1950s and completed in the following decades, it was meant to serve a very different city — both in population and traffic volume. At the time, Delhi had fewer than three million residents. Today, the metro region is home to over 30 million. The road, however, has not expanded proportionately to accommodate this growth. What was once designed as a bypass route now functions as a semi-central road. As the city grew outward, neighbourhoods like South Extension, Punjabi Bagh, Lajpat Nagar and Ashram became dense mid-city urban hubs. Ring Road now cuts through commercial, institutional and residential areas. The corridor is used not just by through traffic but also by local traffic to access shops, markets, schools and hospitals — all of which generate frequent stops and lane intrusions. Intersections like AIIMS, Moolchand, Dhaula Kuan, Ashram and ITO are choke points where arterial routes intersect with heavy local traffic. While flyovers and underpasses have been built at some locations, they often only shift the congestion rather than resolve it. Delhi Traffic Police conducted a survey in 2024 and found that of 134 congestion hotspots, at least 12 were located on Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

Berlin [Germany], June 8 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has said that India's Armed Forces have given a befitting reply to those who have cast an evil eye on the country and that there will be a firm response to any terror attack. Priyanka Chaturvedi, who is a member of an all-party delegation visiting partner countries to highlight India's zero tolerance policy against terrorism, told members of the Indian diaspora in Germany that India gave a firm response to the Pahalgam terror attack through Operation Sindoor. 'Our armed forces gave a befitting reply to those who have time and again attacked our country . Our response has been mature, responsible,' she said. 'We are the land of Mahatma, we are the land of Buddha, but we are also the land of Krishna,' she added. She said the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir was targeted in Operation Sindoor. She said India was, in a way, carrying out the work of the UN, by targeting terror camps. Priyanka Chaturvedi also took a jibe at Pakistan getting a position to serve as vice-chair of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the United Nations. 'Do you know what responsibility they got? They have gotten the vice-chairmanship of the Counter-Terrorism Committee. This is like asking Masood Azhar and Hafeez Saeed to fight for global peace and justice. We have to call this out. Not only India but the entire world is suffering. From Masood Azhar to Osama Bin Laden - all have been found there (Pakistan). They have also gotten chairmanship of the Taliban Sanctions Committee,' she said. She said all faiths co-exist peacefully in India. 'The Jinnah inside Asim Munir was woken when he delivered the speech saying Hindus and Muslims cannot coexist. Today, India is a shining example of how 200 million Muslims live in harmony and is a befitting reply to Pakistan,' she said. Chaturvedi said she belongs to a party which is against talks with Pakistan till it supports cross-border terrorism. 'I am proud I come from that party', she said. She gave a call for the diaspora to show support for the Indian armed forces and the diaspora burst into chants praising them. At the start of the community event, the Indian diaspora observed a two-minute silence to pay tributes to people who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Priyanka Chaturvedi told ANI later that it is global responsibility to fight against terrorism. 'We have seen the strength of our diaspora in the six nations we met various officials and we kept forward our views in front of told them the problem of terrorism that we have been facing for decades can also reach your is the responsibility of the world to call out and the various nations that we visited have extended support to us in the fight against terrorism...' The delegation arrived in Germany after concluding their visit to Belgium. Earlier, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said they raised strong concerns about terrorism during their visit to Brussels and generals of Pakistan 'run that country with the help of a military terrorist coalition', which is a 'threat' to democracy and humanity. The Indian Armed Forces carried out targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists. India repelled subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. (ANI)
