Azerbaijan to export 1.2 billion bcm of gas to Syria through Turkey annually, says SOCAR
SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov was speaking in southern Turkey, close to the Syrian border, as Turkey and Azerbaijan launched natural gas exports to Syria. The launch was marked at a ceremony in the city of Kilis, attended by ministers and other officials from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Syria and Qatar.
Azerbaijan's Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said the project followed agreements in April and July between Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Syria's transitional president Ahmad Al-Sharaa.
Gas would be transported through Turkish territory to Syria under a coordinated arrangement, Jabbarov said.
'By launching gas exports to Syria, Azerbaijan has demonstrated that it is capable of exporting gas not only to the West, but also to the East and the South,' he said at the event.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said deliveries were expected to reach around 6 million bcm per day, with potential to supply up to 2 billion bcm annually in the first phase.
The gas would be used to restart power plants in Syria with a combined capacity of 1,200 megawatts, Bayraktar said.
Turkey, which supported rebel forces in Syria throughout the 13-year civil war that ended in December with the ousting of Bashar al-Assad, has become one of the new Syrian government's main foreign allies while positioning itself to be a major player in Syria's reconstruction.
Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad Al-Bashir said the gas supplies would support basic energy needs in areas affected by conflict.

Fighters attack Syrian forces as ceasefire breaks down
Armed fighters attacked Syria's internal security forces in the city of Sweida on Sunday, killing one person and breaking a fragile ceasefire. The renewed violence follows deadly clashes between Druze and Sunni Bedouins in July that drew the intervention of Syrian government forces and tribal fighters who came to support the Bedouins. Israel also entered the fray, carrying out strikes on Syrian troops in support of the Druze, an Arabic-speaking ethno-religious minority with communities in Israel. A ceasefire put an end to the week of bloodshed – which killed 1,400 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights – but the situation remained tense, flaring into violence again on Sunday. Syria's state-run Ekhbariya TV reported that one member of the Syrian government forces was killed by the armed gang. Unconfirmed reports also suggested Druze militants had conquered an area west of Sweida from regime forces. Meanwhile, Israeli troops questioned 'several suspects' overnight who are thought to be involved in weapons trafficking in the Hader area in southern Syria. The Israel Defence Force (IDF) said troops entered four locations simultaneously and located 'numerous weapons that the suspects had been trafficking'. Israel entered the conflict last month when Druze civilians were attacked by regime forces, launching airstrikes on government military positions as well as the defence ministry headquarter in Damascus. Hundreds of Israeli Druze crossed the border from Israeli-controlled Golan Heights into Syria to defend their family members from the attacks by regime forces and Bedouin tribes. Geir Pedersen, the UN special envoy for Syria, told ambassadors in the Security Council last week that 'Syrians are reeling after appalling violence in Sweida – violence that should not have happened and which also saw unacceptable foreign intervention'. Edem Wosornu, director of operations at the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, said the city of Sweida was 'teetering on the edge of collapse'. 'The recent violence in Sweida has displaced an estimated 175,000 people... a third of the population in the governorate, where two thirds of people were already in need of assistance,' she said last week. Ahmed Al-Sharaa, Syria's new president, has struggled to unite the country after toppling Bashar al-Assad in December last year. Several rounds of sectarian violence have erupted since, with his regime forces accused of committing atrocities against the Alawite and Druze minorities. The IDF took control last year of a buffer zone established in 1974 between Israel and Syria. Israel said it wouldn't allow a 'jihadi' presence on its border after the fall of the Assad regime, while promising to protect the Druze minority in southern Syria. The Syrian government has lashed out at Israel for attacking its territory and grabbing new territory, while some Druze in Syria and Lebanon have accused Israel of stoking sectarian divisions to seize more land.

Honda's Anna Engine Plant has built more than 30 million engines Honda's Anna Engine Plant (AEP) celebrated 40 years of building engines and components for both foreign and domestic production on July 22nd. Located a stone's throw from the Village of Anna, the facility has expanded from a mere 200,000 square feet with 94 employees in 1985 to a massive 2.8 million square-foot campus that employs 2,900 people. Since its founding, AEP has built more than 32.5 million engines, as well as miscellaneous powertrain components. Going forward, AEP will play a major role in the automaker's electrified efforts by producing combustion engines, hybrid powertrains, and EV components on the same lines. Honda Anna Engine Plant produces 30-millionth engine — Source: Honda Anna Engine Plant is responsible for several notable engines AEP officially began operating in 1985, with motorcycle engines christening the new production facility. The engine plant expanded to automotive engine production the following year, starting with the Honda Civic's four-cylinder engine. Since then, the facility has produced more than 32.5 million engines, as well as various components for engines and transmissions. In that time, AEP has produced several notable engines, including the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that's under the hood of the hybrid Civic, Accord, and CR-V. The engine plant also produces the turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 engines that power the Acura Integra, TLX, and MDX Type S models. AEP even produces the Honda Civic Type R's 315-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. From there, the engine is exported to Japan, where the hot hatch is assembled. The facility is also responsible for the 500-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that powered the second-gen Acura NSX. Anna Engine Plant will play a crucial role in Honda's EV plans Honda already has a couple of EVs in its lineup, namely the Prologue and Acura ZDX, but the Japanese automaker is gearing up for expansion. In total, the company plans to invest $1 billion to retool its automotive production facilities, including the Marysville Auto Plant, East Liberty Auto Plant, and AEP, as part of the new Honda EV Hub. Once retooling is completed, AEP will add megacasting, friction stir welding, and Minimum Quantity Lubrication machining to its long list of production processes. The engine plant will play a vital role in the Honda EV Hub by producing the battery case used in Honda and Acura EVs. 2025 Honda Prologue Elite — Source: Honda Once EV production begins, the battery case created at AEP will be shipped off to the Marysville Auto Plant. There, it will be combined with the battery module to create the EV battery packs that power vehicles assembled at the Marysville and East Liberty Auto Plants. Notably, the production facilities will continue to produce traditional internal combustion engines and hybrid models alongside their EV counterparts. Honda is doing more than simply equipping their existing production facilities for EV production, though. The company is aiming to rethink the production process entirely, with a focus on worker-friendly practices, environmental responsibility, and efficiency. The addition of electric vehicle production capabilities requires not only new machinery but also a re-imagining of how we work together on the assembly line.' Honda has been operating in Ohio since 1979 While the Anna Engine Plant is celebrating 40 years, it wasn't the automaker's first manufacturing facility in Ohio. Honda's Marysville Auto Plant started out building motorcycles in 1979 before moving to automobile production in 1982. Today, Honda has five manufacturing facilities and is the largest employer in Ohio, with more than 12,000 employees on record. It's definitely a unique part of the view from my front porch. On a more serious note, their involvement in the community, schools, and events can't be understated. China welcomes 183 Brazil coffee sellers in wake of US tariffs
SAO PAULO, Aug 3 (Reuters) - China has approved 183 new Brazilian coffee companies to export products to the Chinese market, according to a social media post of the Chinese embassy in Brazil on Saturday. The measure, a boon to local exporters after the United States government's announcement of steep tariffs on Brazilian coffee and other products, took effect on July 30. The new Chinese export permits are valid for five years, according to the post. The U.S.'s 50% tariff on some Brazilian products will begin on August 6. The levy represents a challenge for commodities traders and Brazilian coffee exporters, who need to find alternatives for the roughly 8 million bags sold to U.S. coffee processors every year. China is Brazil's top trade partner overall while the U.S. is a big buyer of Brazilian beef and orange juice, among other products. In June, Brazilian coffee exports into the U.S. totaled 440,034 60-kilo bags, 7,87 times more than Brazil's sales into China of nearly 56,000 bags that month, according to trade data compiled by industry lobby Cecafe. The Brazilian ministry of agriculture and Cecafe did not have an immediate comment. China's customs authority could not be immediately reached as it was outside the business hours. Brazil supplies about a third of the U.S. coffee demand each year, a trade valued at $4.4 billion in the 12 months ended in June.
