Hyundai's updated Bluelink app simplifies EV charging
Hyundai has made it easier for drivers of its newer model electric vehicles to find and pay for charging with new updates to its MyHyundai with Bluelink smartphone app, the company announced May 6.
The app connects Hyundai vehicles to its vehicle subscription ecosystem. The latest update now allows eligible customers to locate EV chargers, get turn-by-turn directions to the nearest one and pay for charging sessions, all from a single interface. The MyHyundai app also eliminates the need for third-party public charging apps. It can be used to locate Tesla Superchargers and public chargers operated by IONNA, ChargePoint and EVgo.
Hyundai EV customers can also set up a 'plug and charge' feature to automatically pay for charging sessions without a smartphone or credit card, per the release. With the exception of EVgo, all compatible charging networks support the new plug and charge feature.
Currently, in-app charging and the plug and charge feature is only available for the 2025 IONIQ 5 and 2026 IONIQ 9, but the automaker said it will be made available for all future IONIQ and Hyundai brand EVs. These newer IONIQ models models are currently equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, but all future Hyundai EVs will eventually come standard with a NACS port, allowing drivers to charge at Tesla Superchargers without an adapter.
'With the introduction of plug and charge and in-app-charging features, we are taking another significant leap forward enabling our drivers to use the MyHyundai with Bluelink app or plug and charge to recharge their EVs,' Manish Mehrotra, vice president of digital business planning and connected operations at Hyundai Motor North America, said in a statement. 'These new features not only simplify the charging process but also enhance the overall ownership experience, reinforcing our commitment to making electric vehicle charging more accessible and user-friendly.'
The app updates follow Hyundai's announcement in March that its customers gained access to the more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers, more than doubling network availability for the automaker's current EV drivers.
Drivers of Hyundai's other EVs that come with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port, including the KONA Electric, IONIQ Electric hatchback, IONIQ 6 and pre-2025 IONIQ 5 models, can use a NACS to CCS adapter at public chargers equipped with CCS plugs.
However, Hyundai previously announced that customers who bought or leased an EV with a standard CCS port before Jan. 31, 2025 can receive a free NACS charging adapter. The adapter is specifically designed to work with Hyundai EVs, including those built on its 800-volt, Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

What's Driving American Battery Tech Stock Up 2x In A Month?
09 July 2025, Saxony, Kamenz: Employees of the Mercedes subsidiary Accumotive are working on a ... More production line for battery systems for electric cars. The plant is now producing lithium-ion batteries for the Mercedes-Benz CLA. Photo: Sebastian Kahnert/dpa (Photo by Sebastian Kahnert/picture alliance via Getty Images) American Battery Technology (NASDAQ:ABAT) has experienced a stock increase of over 100% in the last month, rising from approximately $1.35 to more than $3 per share. What factors are behind this rise, and is there potential for further growth? Lithium Mining Push The recent increase seems to be linked to the rising support for ABAT's Tonopah Flats Lithium Project (TFLP) in Nevada, which received "FAST-41" transparency priority status from the U.S. Federal Permitting Council. This classification aids in expediting federal approvals from various agencies and signals the project's strategic significance. The initiative is ambitious, aiming to create a domestic lithium mine and a refinery capable of producing 30,000 metric tons of lithium hydroxide each year – a crucial component for electric vehicle (EV) batteries and energy storage systems. ABAT has also obtained notable financial support, including a $58 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and a $900 million letter of interest from the Export-Import Bank of the United States to facilitate project construction and expansion. Battery Recycling Gains Importance As the U.S. takes steps to lessen its dependence on Chinese critical mineral imports, ABAT's domestic emphasis – in both mining and its closed-loop battery recycling facility – aligns perfectly with these policy developments. The company's commercial-scale recycling facility in Nevada allows it to reclaim battery-grade lithium and other essential metals from used batteries, thus fostering a more sustainable domestic supply chain. The company focuses on the extraction, refinement, and recycling of essential battery materials such as lithium and cobalt – critical elements for electric vehicles (EVs) and clean energy storage systems, by methodically disassembling battery packs instead of shredding or smelting. This system accommodates various lithium-ion battery chemistries and forms. Although the business is relatively small at present, battery recycling has the potential to evolve into a significant industry in the long term, particularly as the EV sector matures and the demand for EV upgrades increases. More Gains For the Stock? That being said, the stock remains highly speculative. Even with the potential for growth driven by increasing lithium demand and EV adoption, ABAT is still in the nascent stages of commercialization. Over the last 12 months, the company generated only $1.9 million in revenue while experiencing an operating loss of $46 million. Its price-to-sales ratio is an exorbitant 144.5, significantly higher than the S&P 500 average of 3.1, and its market capitalization is below $300 million. Though government backing and its significance to the clean energy shift provide strong incentives, ABAT is still a small-cap, early-stage firm vulnerable to operational, financial, and execution challenges common in such undertakings. While it's wise to exercise caution regarding ABAT stock at the moment, you might consider looking into the Trefis Reinforced Value (RV) Portfolio, which has surpassed its all-cap stocks benchmark (a combination of the S&P 500, S&P mid-cap, and Russell 2000 benchmark indices) yielding strong returns for investors. Why is that? The quarterly rebalanced mix of large-, mid-, and small-cap RV Portfolio stocks has provided an agile approach to capitalize on favorable market conditions while minimizing losses during downturns, as outlined in RV Portfolio performance metrics.

Tesla announces cheaper Model Y to combat sales and revenue dive
Tesla will launch a cheaper variant of the Model Y in a bid to increase sales after posting one of its worst ever quarterly sales declines. In January, Tesla boss Elon Musk to launch a range of "more affordable models" by this summer in a bid to broaden its appeal. Rather than an entirely new model, this has instead amounted to a stripped-out version of the American EV brand's best-seller. Production is scheduled to begin from around August or September. Musk hasn't said whether other affordable models, such as a new Model 3, are planned. Nor has he provided more information, such as which markets the new Model Y would be sold in, target volumes or a target price. The current cheapest version of the SUV starts at £51,990. Tesla hopes the new base model wil especially help to incentivise sales in the US, where current $7500 government electric car grants are due to be stopped as part of president Donald Trump's rollback of emission mandates. The new model announcement has come after Tesla posted heavy losses in the second quarter of 2025. Musk warned that the trend is set to continue in what is expected to be one of Tesla's most challenging periods. The key pullout from the EV maker's second quarter earnings, released on Wednesday night, was a 16% dip in income to $1.17 billion. Tesla blamed this on a 13% decline in sales, a reduction in its average model selling price and an increase in operating expenses. Most importantly, revenue from electric car credits, bought by other manufacturers to hit mandated emissions targets – which Tesla has hugely profited from previously – has dropped by 51% (or $441 million) since Q2 2024, including $154m since the previous quarter alone. This has been driven by Trump's winding down of electric car regulations in the US, meaning car makers no longer need to hit certain EV production targets and therefore have no need to buy credits. Announced in January, the revocation of former president Joe Biden's legislation – which mandates that by 2030, 50% of all new cars sold in the US must be electric – is due to take effect in the coming months. As such, Musk told reporters on the earnings call that Tesla 'probably could have a few rough quarters; I'm not saying we will, but we could'. His comments resulted in share prices in the firm dropping 7%. This year has been difficult for Tesla. Despite introducing an updated version of the Model Y earlier this year, it has struggled in China – previously one of its most significant makerts – due to tariff tensions and sales drops linked to Musk's ties with Trump. While Tesla seemingly has no other mainstream models in the pipeline, a buoyant Musk said he expected a wave of revenue to come from the brand's upcoming self-driving technology, such as its robotaxi service (currently being trailed in Texas) and vehicles such as the Cybercab. It has also invested heavily in the development of humanoid robots. 'Once you get to autonomy at scale in the second half of next year, certainly by the end of next year, I think I'd be surprised if Tesla's economics are not very compelling,' said Musk. ]]>
