Adding fuel to the fire, another NCP (SP) leader, Rohit Pawar, on Sunday drew parallels between Mahatma Gandhi's assassin, Nathuram Godse, and the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack.

He, however, stressed that terrorism has no caste or religion.
Echoing Chavan, Awhad on Saturday stated that "Sanatani terrorism must be acknowledged".

"It is not a recent phenomenon; it has existed since ancient times," Awhad posted on X and cited various historical incidents where, according to him, thinkers and social reformers were persecuted by what he described as "Sanatani terrorists".
"Those who harassed Lord Buddha, killed Buddhist monks, opposed the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and conspired against Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj were all sanatani terrorists," Awhad alleged.
"Those who threw cow dung at Savitribai Phule, boycotted Mahatma Phule, attacked Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar, M M Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh, and denied water to the oppressed were Sanatani terrorists," he alleged.
Awhad claimed that those who shot Mahatma Gandhi while he was going to prayer, and those who view Manusmriti as more important than the Constitution written by Dr Ambedkar, are the same (sanatani terrorists).
On Sunday, Rohit Pawar echoed similar views.
"Whether it was Nathuram Godse who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi or the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack, the root of terrorism lies in extremist ideology. Terrorism has no colour, only radical thought is its foundation," Pawar posted on X.
He stated that Hinduism has always supported equality, humanity, and the teachings of saints, stressing that the tradition based on Manusmriti cannot be part of Hinduism.
"We burnt Manusmriti in the past, we burn it today, and we will continue to burn it in the future", he added.
Pawar, grandnephew of veteran politician Sharad Pawar, questioned the 'silence' of so-called Hindutva leaders over various social issues concerning farmers, women, and youth.
"Today, farmers are in distress, women's safety and unemployment are pressing issues. Why don't the so-called Hindutva leaders raise their voices on these? Don't they see Hindu farmers committing suicide or Hindu youth wandering for jobs?" he questioned.
Hitting back, Maharashtra BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye on Sunday evening accused Awhad and Pawar of peddling "Hindu hatred" for "appeasement politics".
"Pawar and Awhad's Hindu hatred and appeasement politics are not stopping. The examples they give are not supported by the Hindu community. In fact, those people were considered criminals. But it was Awhad who once glorified terrorists like Ishrat Jahan. Have you forgotten Batla House, where terrorists were killed in an encounter and Sonia Gandhi was reportedly in tears?" Upadhye posted on X.
He alleged that the Congress tried to associate terrorism with the saffron colour, which symbolises sacrifice. "It was an attempt to label Hindus as terrorists".
The BJP leader asked Awhad if he would mention Muslim terrorists and condemn the brutal killing of Hindus in Pahalgam.
"You have repeatedly used the phrase 'Sanatani terrorist'. Can you once mention Muslim terrorists and condemn those who killed Hindus in Pahalgam? You are quick to defame Sanatan Dharma but hesitate to name Muslim terrorists. Those who glorify Ishrat Jahan have no moral right to talk about Sanatan Dharma," he added.
He accused Rohit Pawar of trying to frame a
Hindu terrorism
narrative.
"Did you remember Hindus when their place of worship was desecrated in Daund (a town in Pune district)? When your government (MVA) jailed Navneet Rana for reciting Hanuman Chalisa, did you think of Hindus then? Now you remember Hindu farmers and youth just to spread a narrative of Hindu terrorism. People will not fall for this hypocrisy. The Hindu community sees through your true face," he said.
The BJP had described the acquittal of all the seven accused in the Malegaon blast case as a slap on the face of Congress for defaming Hindus by coining the term saffron terrorism.

New Delhi: Asked by a BJP MP if the government was considering changing the Gaya airport's international code 'GAY' to something 'more respectful and culturally appropriate', the civil aviation ministry pointed out that these identifiers can only be changed in exceptional circumstances. In his question to the ministry, Rajya Sabha MP for Bihar Bhim Singh claimed that 'people' consider the Gaya airport's IATA or International Air Transport Association code of 'GAY' to be 'socially and culturally offensive'. He asked if the government had received complaints or suggestions on the identifier, whether it is considering bringing in a 'more respectful and culturally appropriate code', what steps it has taken in this regard if so, and the reasons why if it is not. Responding to Singh on Monday (July 4), minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol said that an airport's IATA code is generally made up of the first three letters of the place where it is located. The ministry as well as the Airports Authority of India have received requests to change the Gaya airport's IATA code in the past, Mohol said, adding that Air India too had approached the Association trying to get it modified. However, IATA informed the airline that its identifiers are 'considered permanent' and changed only in 'exceptional circumstances', which generally have to do with matters of air safety, Mohol recalled. This is the same answer that the civil aviation ministry gave to the parliamentary standing committee on public undertakings when the latter had recommended a change to the Gaya airport's IATA code. 'The committee have their apprehension that Gaya being a holy city, locals might be finding it offensive or embarrassing on their city being recognised in the international community with the code name 'GAY' [sic],' it had told the ministry, adding that it too found the identifier to be 'inappropriate and unsuitable'. Asked what action it had taken on the matter, the ministry in September 2021 informed the committee that while Air India had approached IATA seeking a change, the latter 'expressed its inability to change' the code 'without a justifiable reason primarily concerning air safety'. While the committee 'appreciated' Air India's efforts, it reiterated its view that the government must 'make all effort to takeup the matter with the IATA and concerned organisation as the issue involves inappropriate code naming of an airport of a holy city of our country [sic],' it said in its report tabled in February 2022. The Supreme Court had decriminalised homosexual relations four years prior, in 2018. Located in southern Bihar, Gaya is home to holy sites in Hinduism and Buddhism. Land acquisition begins for Rs 22,864cr Shillong-Silchar high-speed corridor
Shillong: Land acquisition process for the construction of the Shillong-Silchar Greenfield high-speed four-lane corridor has officially begun, with the route passing through Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya. District deputy commissioner Abhilash Baranwal has urged residents not to undertake any new construction or development activities within the designated area for the proposed highway. "It is hereby clearly stated that any unauthorised structures — whether temporary or permanent — erected within the proposed alignment after the issuance of this notice will not be considered eligible for compensation during land acquisition or project implementation," a notification issued by the DC stated. The cabinet committee on economic affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had earlier approved the development, maintenance, and management of a 166.80 km Greenfield Access Controlled section of NH-06 from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam. The project will be executed under the hybrid annuity mode at a total capital cost of Rs 22,864 crore. The project aligns with the government's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, aiming to generate employment and foster socio-economic development across Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Meanwhile, the Meghalaya govt, through the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), is set to acquire land for the corridor's alignment through 34 villages in East Jaintia Hills district. These include Tuber Shohshrieh, Wapung Shnong, Lad Rymbai Datsimpein, Khlieriat East, Borghat, Umkiang, Ratacherra, and others. Informing the public on Tuesday, the East Jaintia Hills district collector said any new construction within the designated corridor area must receive prior permission from the DC's office. "Unauthorised structures — whether private or commercial — erected within the proposed right of way after the issuance of this notice will not be eligible for compensation," the order stated, adding that it comes into immediate effect.
