Dennis Hauger Wins WWTR Pole in Oval Debut
If anyone thought Dennis Hauger might struggle to find speed in the first oval race of his life, think again.
INDY NXT by Firestone championship leader Hauger won the pole Saturday for his oval racing debut, taking the top spot for the INDYCAR development series race at World Wide Technology with a two-lap average speed of 166.162 mph in the No. 26 Nammo car fielded by Andretti Global. Hauger's run to his fourth pole of the season was a track record, breaking the previous two-lap average mark of 164.242 set last year by series champion Louis Foster.

The pole performance for rookie Hauger, who has won four of the first five races this season, came after he looked mortal for nearly the first time this season in the opening practice earlier today on the 1.25-mile oval. He was fifth in that session, more than 1.6 mph slower than leader Caio Collet, as he learned the intricacies of this unique, egg-shaped oval.
'First time on an oval, and we got the pole,' Hauger said. 'Super happy about that. Didn't really know what to expect, but we got up to speed in practice, and we really made improvements for qualifying.
'Looking forward to seeing how we get on tomorrow. It's going to be a bit of a different game.'
The 75-lap race starts at 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday (FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network). It's the first oval race of the season.
2024 series Rookie of the Year Collet qualified second at 165.735 in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car. His second lap of 166.341 is the one-lap record for INDY NXT at WWTR.
Salvador de Alba will start third after his qualifying performance of 165.223 in the No. 27 Grupo Indi machine of Andretti Global, joined in Row 2 by fellow veteran Myles Rowe, who qualified fourth at 165.082 in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car.
Rookie Lochie Hughes, the only race winner this season besides Hauger, qualified fifth at 164.350 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship car of Andretti Global. Josh Pierson will fill out Row 3 after qualifying sixth at 163.993 in the No. 14 HMD Motorsports car.

Sixers' Jared McCain ranks 4th in 6th Man of the Year betting odds
With the 2025-26 season quickly approaching, now is the time to look ahead to the new season. The Philadelphia 76ers will certainly be looking to put a miserable 24-58 season behind them after injuries decimated the roster and ruined any chance they had at contending for a title. As the Sixers now look ahead to the new season, the focus remains on the trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. However, the front office did add some younger, versatile pieces to help push them in the right direction and through the grind of an 82-game season. A young piece the Sixers will certainly rely on will be second-year guard Jared McCain. He was on his way to winning Rookie of the Year in 2025 before a meniscus tear cut his season short after just 23 games. FanDuel believes McCain will have a big second season as they have him tied for the fourth-best betting odds of winning the 6th Man of the Year award in 2026 at +1200. One has to believe McCain will be starting a good amount due to his shooting ability, but when considering the fact that the Sixers are likely to bring back Quentin Grimes, there is also a good chance he will come off the bench more often than not. Therefore, he has a chance of winning the coveted 6th Man award.

Kelsey Plum Breaks Silence After Backlash Over Viral Caitlin Clark Diss
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been an easy target for her fellow WNBA peers both on and off the court. Though she hasn't played a game in over a month while she recovers from a right groin injury, Clark was in the headlines recently for being on the receiving end of a viral diss from Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum. During the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game last month, Plum threw some shade Clark's way when she called out the reigning Rookie of the Year and the rest of the players on her All-Star roster for not showing up to a players' meeting in which they decided to wear black shirts with the message "Pay Us What You Owe Us" during warm ups to send a message to the league's front office regarding their salary demands for the next collective bargaining agreement. More WNBA: Sophie Cunningham Could Receive Another WNBA Fine After Latest Remarks "It was a very powerful moment," Plum said. "As players, we didn't know that that was going to happen. It was a genuine surprise. The T-shirt was determined this morning. Not to tattletale: zero members of Team Clark were very present for that." New York Liberty guard and fellow All-Star Sabrina Ionescu, who was on Team Clark, joked that Plum didn't need to point that out, to which she replied: "I'm just trying to make the situation light, OK?" Caitlin Clark #22 of the Indiana Fever reacts during the game during the game against the Chicago Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on August 9, 2025 in Indianapolis, the weeks since Plum made those remarks, she'd been ridiculed and called out by throngs of fans on social media who claimed she was jealous of Clark's star power. But after staying silent on the incident, Plum recently clarified what she really meant by her comments during a recent appearance on Sue Bird's "Bird's Eye View" podcast. "Oh, I made a bad joke," Plum admitted. "I made a really bad joke. ... I honestly was like, 'Hey, team Clark, they didn't make it to the meeting either,' just making a joke, trying to make the room lighter. "I was making a joke that they were hung over, even though our [Team Collier] nickname was hungover. So I was like, 'At least we made it.' Obviously, we were all on the same page, we all wore the shirts, we all were unified." Plum posted a photo on Instagram celebrating All-Star weekend with the caption "What a weekend 🧡🧡🧡." Clark responded by commenting "Thank u for the Nike ad," seemingly making light of the fact that Plum, who signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Under Armour in November of 2022, happened to be standing in front of a giant Nike logo in her photos. Clark is one of Nike's biggest stars. More WNBA: Fever Coach Stephanie White Gives Major Caitlin Clark Injury Update

Betting odds for Sixers' VJ Edgecombe to win 2026 Rookie of the Year
The 2025-26 NBA season continues to inch closer as the schedule has been released and everybody's attention turns to opening night in October. With that being said, now is the time to look at some odds for certain awards concerning the Philadelphia 76ers. While MVP is normally the one to watch for the Sixers due to the presence of Joel Embiid, there is some injury concern there, so this one is focused on Rookie of the Year due to the presence of VJ Edgecombe. FanDuel released their Rookie of the Year odds with Edgecombe ranking fourth in those odds with +1300. He is behind only San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, Washington Wizards guard Tre Johnson, and Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg. Edgecombe's chances to win Rookie of the Year will depend on how much the ball will be in his hands. The Sixers have a lot of guards they will rely on more than him--notably Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain--and numbers are a big part of the ROY voting. Edgecombe might not have the best chance to take home the award, but that will depend on what role he will have in the 2025-26 season.
