Driver slapped with severe penalties for speeding over double posted limit: OPP

Provincial police stopped a vehicle on Poplar Sideroad in Clearview Township allegedly speeding 104 km/h in the posted 50 zone. Provincial police issued a 'critical reminder' for motorists to slow down after nabbing one driver allegedly speeding more than double the posted limit in Clearview Township. Police say the accused learned a harsh lesson about the severe consequences of having a heavy foot after being clocked travelling 104 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 km/h zone along Poplar Sideroad. The motorist was handed a hefty fine, a 14-day vehicle impoundment and a 30-day licence suspension, which are automatic penalties with a stunt driving charge. In Ontario, stunt driving involves reckless driving behavoiurs, such as excessive speeding, street racing and dangerous maneuvers. Motorists can be charged with stunt driving if they exceed the speed limit by 40 km/h or more in zones with a speed limit under 80 km/h, or 50 km/h or more in zones with a speed limit of 80 km/h or higher. Police say the message is clear: slow down and stay safe. 'It's not worth the risk to yourself or others.'
