Kelantan police propose border wall to curb smuggling activities
He said the 45-kilometre border stretch remains too exposed, making comprehensive enforcement challenging.
'For that entire stretch, we have only eight control posts. Naturally, there are many gaps that continue to be exploited by smugglers,' he said.
'In my opinion, only the construction of a complete border wall can effectively address this issue,' he told reporters at a press conference held in conjunction with the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department's (NCID) 2025 Case Disposal event at the state police headquarters here today.
Mohd Yusoff added that the proposal to construct the wall had been submitted to the relevant authorities some time ago.
He also noted a shift in drug trafficking trends in Kelantan, with smugglers now preferring to bring in smaller quantities compared to the large consignments seen previously.
This change, he said, followed tighter enforcement and restrictions on cross-border movement through illegal entry points along Sungai Golok.
'Previously, we made large seizures. Now, traffickers are more cautious and smuggle in smaller amounts. Still, yaba pills remain the most in-demand drug in the state,' he said. — Bernama

Winding up the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan for his ministry in the Dewan Rakyat today, he said an additional RM64 million had been allocated for 22 projects along the border, covering both physical and non-physical projects involving the police, the immigration department and border agencies. He also said another 390 senior and lower-ranking police officers would be stationed to protect the border. He said the authorities carried out 509 raids across Sarawak, resulting in 535 arrests, from January to July. 'We will continue to take action including under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, and the Prevention of Crime Act 1959. 'We also cooperate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Sarawak Energy Bhd when we cut power and water supply to them. We will review the laws to see if they need to be strengthened. 'We can take down their websites in split seconds, but they can immediately create mirror websites,' he said.

Pamela Ling disappearance: Home minister says police recorded statements from 48 witnesses, including four MACC officers
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The police have called 48 witnesses, including four officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), to record statements to assist in the investigation of the kidnapping case of Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said close cooperation was also carried out with enforcement agencies, including the MACC, to ensure a thorough investigation. "Cooperation was made with related agencies, including the Immigration Department, for example, the vehicle said to be used (to kidnap Pamela) was found in the northern border of Bukit Kayu Hitam-Thailand. "This is only believed, not confirmed," he said while wrapping up the 13th Malaysia Plan motion for his ministry in the Dewan Rakyat today. Commenting on the issue of national border security, he said the authorities detected 71 illegal routes for smuggling activities along the Sarawak, Malaysia border with Kalimantan, Indonesia, including hot spots in Ba'kelalan, Lubuk Antu, and Tebedu. The government, he said, had approved an allocation of RM28 million to the Ministry of Home Affairs to develop seven additional security control posts, including Pos Raso 1 in Lundu, Pos Sapit in Padawan, and Pos Tepoi in Serian. "The government also approved an additional allocation of RM64.318 million under the special Sarawak border development allocation, which will be utilised by the General Operations Force (PGA) Brigade Sarawak for the implementation of 22 projects involving 14 non-physical projects and eight physical projects," he said. Saifuddin Nasution said, in addition, to strengthen border control in Sarawak, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) established another PGA Brigade Sarawak battalion, namely Battalion 23 in Seri Aman, as an addition to the existing three battalions, involving an increase of 320 personnel consisting of senior police officers, junior officers, and civil servants.

Cops seize over RM13mil in drugs, five arrested
SHAH ALAM: More than RM13mil in drugs has been seized in a follow-up operation into a drug smuggling syndicate. Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that five suspects were arrested following additional investigations into the syndicate. 'This is a follow-up from a case we cracked in March,' he told a press conference on Wednesday (Aug 20) at the Selangor police headquarters. 'On Monday, the police conducted four raids in the Klang Valley, leading to the five arrested aged 33 to 64 years old. Raids were carried out in Puchong and Sri Petaling, which included two residences. 'The last raid at a car park near the Sri Petaling LRT station led to the arrest of the coordinator of the syndicate,' he said. All of the suspects had criminal records, with one having 13 prior offences. 'We believe there are more members linked to this group, and we will trace them down. The coordinator, we believe, also reports to someone higher,' he said. The police found a total of RM425.25kg of drugs worth RM13.6mil. The drugs were believed to be meant for distribution in the Klang Valley as well as Sabah and Sarawak. 'So far, we have detected their drugs being sent over there via air transport,' he said. All suspects have been remanded until next Monday.
