Pat McAfee gets brutalized at WWE Backlash: ‘My chest is burning'

New York Post11-05-2025

Pat McAfee took quite the beating on Saturday night.
The divisive sports media enigma has already shown an ability to excel in a WWE ring, but his return to action at Backlash 2025, weeks after WrestleMania 41, left the 'Raw' commentator licking his wounds.
McAfee, 38, took a bruising defeat at the hands of former WWE World Heavyweight champion Gunther in St. Louis.
The 'Ring General' is known for his punishing in-ring style and feuded with the former Colts punter leading up to the WWE's first major show following 'Mania.
Said punishing style is typically highlighted by Gunther's legitimately hard chops, in which he lays it in on the chest of his opponents, which McAfee felt during their match — and after.
'My chest… is ahhh… burning,' McAfee wrote on X along with a photo of his bright red chest.

The match saw McAfee endure a relentless assault, culminating in Gunther's signature sleeper hold that rendered him unconscious.
The encounter lasted approximately 14 minutes, which is lengthy in WWE circles, even for a Premium Live Event.
Comparatively, this stands as McAfee's second-longest singles match in WWE, just shy of his 16-minute debut against Adam Cole in 2020 while in NXT.

Throughout the match, Gunther dominated with his signature chops, leaving McAfee's chest visibly battered, and overall, he dominated the WWE color commentator en route to a decisive victory.
McAfee is expected to return to his commentary duties on WWE programming, as well as various other media ventures, following his loss to Gunther.
In the storyline, McAfee asked for the match after Gunther attacked him and play-by-play man Michael Cole on Raw.

French Open 2025: Coco Gauff defeats Madison Keys, will face France's Lois Boisson in semifinals

(Photo by ALAIN JOCARD/AFP via Getty Images) In an all-American quarterfinal match, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff came out on top of No. 7 seed Madison Keys at the French Open on Wednesday, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1. Gauff advances to face Lois Boisson in the semifinals on Thursday in Gauff's second consecutive French Open semifinal appearance. Keys was the highest-ranked opponent Gauff had faced in this French Open, and she proved a challenge early before letting up late. Advertisement While both players took a while to get settled in, it was a rough start for Gauff, who piled up errors as she went down 4-1 in the first set before surging back with four straight games to take a brief lead. She and Keys matched each other en route to a tiebreak, which the 2025 Australian Open winner ultimately won 8-6. It was the first set Gauff had dropped in the tournament as she struggled with her serve at the end. Gauff improved in the second set and mounted a 4-1 lead, but similar to the first set, Keys rallied back to tie things up. But this time, Gauff was able to pull away, taking the set 6-4. Gauff was much sharper in the third set, taking a commanding lead and never letting up, capitalizing on Key's errors and minimizing her own. Keys had 60 unforced errors to Gauff's 41, and 34 forced errors to Gauff's 24. But only two of Gauff's unforced errors came in the third set, while Keys had 16. Gauff had a 75% win rate on her first serve and converted 53% of her break points for the match. Advertisement Gauff's best result at the French Open is a second-place finish in 2022 to Iga Świątek, who also beat her in last year's semifinals. Keys made it to the semifinals in 2018. Both players have one Grand Slam win to their name — Gauff the 2022 U.S. Open and Keys this year's Australian Open. Boisson entered the event as the No. 361 ranked women's player, but has outplayed much higher-ranked opponents during her miraculous run to the semifinals. Before defeating No. 6 Mirra Andreeva in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 on Wednesday, Boisson also took down No. 3 Jessica Pegula earlier in the tournament. Boisson — who is French — will have the hometown crowd behind her when she takes on Gauff in the semifinals on Thursday. The two have never faced each other in a head-to-head singles match.

Why Fans Think The Miz Is Leaving WWE?

Amid the recent departures of R-Truth and Carlito from WWE, fans have voiced their concerns about the Miz following suit and leaving the Stamford-based promotion. Additionally, the Miz, or Michael Gregory Mizanin, as is his original name, has only gone on to heighten these worries with his recent activities on social media. So, is the two-time WWE champion planning his exit from the professional wrestling organization? Here's everything you need to know regarding the ongoing rumors regarding Miz's proposed departure from WWE. Is the Miz, aka Michael Mizanin, leaving WWE? At the time of writing, neither the Miz nor WWE has issued any official statement regarding the 44-year-old wrestler leaving the company. Advertisement Theories regarding his exit began to make waves on the internet after the former IC Champion unfollowed WWE from his X (formerly Twitter) account. Moreover, he went as far as to delete every mention of the promotion from the bio of his X handle. Nevertheless, Fightful's seasoned wrestling reporter Sean Ross Sapp has come out to rebuke all claims of the Miz leaving the WWE. While replying to an X post that highlighted Michael Mizanin's peculiar social media activities, Sapp noted, 'A nothing story.' Another element in the story that has fans concerned is Mizanin's current contract with WWE. The wrestler/actor reportedly signed his latest extension with the company in 2019. While the exact date of expiry of his contract remains under wraps, the deal will not conclude until the end of 2025, at the very least, as per Wrestling Notícias. With R-Truth's departure from the WWE, which was announced on June 1, also coinciding with the expiration of his contract, fans are worried that the Miz might also be leaving the promotion in a similar fashion. Regardless, all theories regarding the Miz's exit from WWE remain mere speculations at the time of writing. More updates about his future with WWE should follow in the near future.
