Biscuit firm boss sacked after slapping Gemma Oaten's bum on stage at an awards - but says Emmerdale star 'gave him permission'
Steve Jones was standing next to the actress after volunteering to go up stage to accept an award at the International Safety Awards when he slapped her on the bottom.
But the then-head of Health, Safety, Environment and Security at McVitie's owner Pladis claimed it was not 'unwanted conduct'.
Jones claimed he had told the presenter he had slapped another well-known woman's bottom and she said 'go for it'.
An employment tribunal heard a colleague of his was upset by the incident after seeing a video of the slap and reported him, referring to the #metoo movement.
He was reported for 'physical conduct pertaining to sexual harassment' after a woman he worked with, who had been taking photos on her phone in 'live' mode, caught a clip of the incident.

He was fired after an investigation by his line manager found his actions were 'neither decent nor moral' but 'ill-judged, insensitive and in bad taste'.
The International Safety Awards, which took place at the InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane in London in June last year, was attended by hundreds of people including a professional photographer.
In a social media post on the day of the event, Ms Oaten - who was not named in the tribunal - said she had had a 'bloody good giggle'.
She said: 'So much fun to be with you all night & have a bloody good giggle too.
'I always try and deliver the right mix of the heart and deep stuff with the fun and naughtiness when hosting and delivering keynote... I think anyone there last night will agree there was plenty of both, especially the latter.'
Jones appealed against his sacking, and took it to a tribunal when his claim was dismissed - claiming the actress 'did not feel harassed, was not distressed, and made no complaint'.
He claimed that even Ms Oaten, who plays Rachel Breckle in Emmerdale, felt it was appropriate in the context of the evening and he hadn't meant to upset or offend anyone.
The central London tribunal found his colleagues had been upset by his conduct and he was fairly dismissed.
The Tribunal Judge Peer found: 'Having considered all of the evidence and in light of my findings above, I am satisfied that the claimant was made aware of the scope of the investigation and the purpose of the disciplinary hearing.
'I do not accept that he did not know what was at stake. I note that during the disciplinary hearing he did acknowledge that in hindsight the behaviour was not acceptable.'

Teddi Mellencamp emerges after revealing why Brandon Blackstock's death hit her 'hard'
Teddi Mellencamp stepped out in Los Angeles on Tuesday, days after revealing why the death of Brandon Blackstock hit especially close to home. The 44-year-old admitted on a recent episode of her podcast that it was difficult to learn that Blackstock had passed from the same ailment she has been diagnosed with - melanoma. But she kept her spirits lifted on Tuesday, grabbing food with a pal in an especially head-turning look. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum mixed fashion with function in a silky pajama-style ensemble consisting of a partially buttoned blue blouse and matching flowing trousers. She strode across the street, feet slipped into mesh flats, and a beaded necklace injecting a further touch of glam. As she waited at the intersection, she brushed loose strays of her hair away from her face. Last week, Teddi opened up to listeners of her Two Ts In A Pod podcast about how difficult it had been to learn Brandon had passed following a battle with melanoma. The talent manager, who was the ex-husband of Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson, died at age 48 on August 7, some three years after being diagnosed with the dangerous skin cancer. 'The Brandon Blackstock story really hit me hard this week,' Teddi, who was diagnosed with the same affliction three years ago, told listeners. 'I wish I would have missed that little detail in the World Wide Web because then I started doing research and they were so quiet about [his diagnosis],' Teddi told listeners. 'I mean, we know he passed from melanoma. They announced that.' 'We're assuming that it had metastasized,' Teddi's podcast host, Tamra Judge, said to her pal. 'I was wondering, when did it metastasize?,' Teddi wondered aloud, adding, 'like this is just where my head goes from being in the situation, did he decline treatment?' 'There's so many different ways that this could have happened,' she explained, adding, 'and like I have one million [percent] respect their choice to keep it private.' Tamra suggested the dedicated equestrian could reach out to Kelly for some more details to be shared privately. For Teddi, the death of Brandon Blackstock from melanoma has hit close to home. Mellencamp was diagnosed with melanoma in 2022. Blackstock died on August 7 after a three-year-battle with the disease Kelly, who shared children River, 11, and Remington, nine, with Brandon has not made any public comment regarding his death. Wondering about what kinds of treatment Brandon received, Teddi queried, 'Maybe he did immunotherapy? Maybe he did chemotherapy? We don't know.' 'I don't know, but those kind of stories hit you hard, when it directly sounds similar to something that you're going through,' she said. Teddi was first diagnosed with melanoma in 2022, but the disease has since spread to her brain and lungs. She revealed this past April that her cancer had progressed to stage four. Teddi has undergone 16 surgeries since her diagnosis, including the removal of four brain tumors. Mellencamp has had 16 surgeries to battle the deadly melanoma attacking her body The reality star had four brain tumors removed earlier this year. She has also undergone radiation and immunotherapy treatments. She has also undergone radiation and immunotherapy treatments She has also used radiation and immunotherapy to fight the disease. On July 29, she shared with her Instagram followers that she was doing well after taking a break from immunotherapy. 'Feeling better and not taking it for granted. Which means I'm back to work after taking last week off,' she shared next to a selfie. 'And if you know me that was completely against my instincts. I guess you could call that growth.' 'Having cancer has broken my heart but has taught me so much about myself,' she told her fans.

Nick Knowles' wife Katie reveals she 'feels like absolute s*** and doesn't recognise herself' after hysterectomy as she share a new health update
Nick Knowles' wife Katie has revealed her 'body feels completely foreign' as she shared a health update on Instagram on Wednesday after undergoing a hysterectomy. The lingerie business owner, 35 - who is newly married to television presenter Nick, 62 - underwent the procedure in July this year after 'surviving' years of 'pain'. Now, weeks later Katie revealed she still 'feels like absolute s***' and has 'gained a stone in six weeks' during her recovery from the hysterectomy. A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure which removes a woman's womb and may also involve the removal of other organs, such as the ovaries. She told fans they are not alone in their recovery as she is also experiencing 'brain fog, constant hot flushes, back pain, exhaustion, anxiety, anger' and many more. Opening up in a candid post, Katie confirmed to fans that she has 'not bounced back fast' though it may seem it and she is still struggling each day. She said: 'I keep getting messages saying, 'Wow, you're out already, you look amazing, you've bounced back so fast.' But honestly? It's absolute Instagram propaganda. 'The truth is, I don't recognise myself at all the moment. My body feels completely foreign. 'I've gained a stone in six weeks, I'm constantly bloated, my boobs are bigger and sore, my face looks puffy, my skin and hair are dry. Every time I see my reflection, it feels like a stranger staring back, and I hate it.' She continued: 'On top of that, I can't even exercise to help myself feel better. My consultant has told me I have another month of no baths or gym because of the pain and bleeding. 'That's four more weeks of being stuck in this body I don't feel comfortable in, with no outlet, no way to feel like me again. It's like I'm trapped, waiting for permission to move forward. 'The symptoms are relentless: the brain fog, forgetting names mid-sentence, going to the wrong cinema, snapping at people I love because I'm just so up and down. 'The CONSTANT hot flushes, the 2, 3 & 4 a.m. wake-ups, waking up drenched in sweat, terrible back pain, exhaustion that sits in my bones. And mentally… I'm low, anxious, & angry.' Katie explained how she recently got dressed up to appear on ITV's Lorraine and attended the Global Champions Arabians Tour with husband Nick, but has been 'struggling'. She wrote: 'The truth is, I don't recognise myself at all the moment. My body feels completely foreign. I've gained a stone in six weeks, I'm constantly bloated, my boobs are bigger and sore, my face looks puffy, my skin and hair are dry' She said: 'Yes, I can throw on a dress and lipstick and smile for a picture, but it's smoke and mirrors. Behind it, I feel like absolute s***. 'I'm sharing this because I don't want anyone scrolling through their feed thinking they're failing because they're not 'bouncing back' like I seem to be. I'm not. I'm bleeding, sore, puffy, heavier, grumpy, anxious and lost in a body I don't know or like. 'If you're struggling too, whether it's with recovery, hormones, or just getting through the day, you're not alone. Instagram will show you the highlight reel. But for reals? It's mostly fake news'. Fans took to the comments to praise Katie for sharing the reality of the procedure as many also related to how she is feeling. They wrote: 'I totally feel you…. Your words resonated. Take time to heal, physically emotionally and mentally'; 'It's a big op to recover from mentally and physically. As you know I'm a few weeks ahead of you in my recovery, but it's not been easy. I got to 6 weeks and did start to feel a bit more like myself. Totally agree, Not being able to exercise is so hard though. You're doing amazing'; 'Thank you for sharing , I am 4 weeks post op and frustrated at my slow progress but your post has made me realise all I am experiencing is normal. Really helps'; 'Yep this was me……. I had to get up and about after 5 days to do the school run but I was not ok, it was like an out of body experience, the hot flushes were the hardest and emotionally I was drained dealing with the 'New me' do not rush the recovery like I had to, take your time'; 'One day at a time, the end result will hopefully be worth all the pain and discomfort you've endured for years'. Katie shared the news last month on social media as she posed a picture in her hospital gown. The candid post saw the mother-of-two open up about living through almost unbearable pain which left her 'vomiting, curled up in bed and missing out on life'. Fans took to the comments to praise Katie for sharing the reality of the procedure as many also related to how she is feeling Katie's caption read: 'I'm 35 and I've just had a hysterectomy. 'I've lived with pcos, endometriosis and adenomyosis since Moses wore short pants And no, it wasn't 'just a bad period.' 'It was constant hospital trips. Multiple laparoscopies. Bleeding through clothes. Vomiting from the pain. Being curled up in bed, missing out on life. 'It was extreme bloating that made me look pregnant. It was migraines, stabbing pains in my legs, butt and stomach. It was chronic fatigue. It was hiding in loos, crying over another ruined day. It was my daughters terrified of getting their periods in case they end up like mummy. 'Years of misdiagnosis & being fobbed off. Told to take painkillers. That it was 'normal.' It wasn't. I've cried on bathroom floors. I've bled through clothes in public. I've had 3 surgeries. I've tried every pill, every patch, every hormone tweak. I've been put on a medical menopause just to get through uni. 'And still… the pain came.' Katie - who tied the knot with DIY SOS presenter Nick earlier this year - also spoke about not being able to recognise herself due to the pain her diagnoses brought her. Post-operation, the 35-year-old candidly admitted she feels 'less like a woman', but said she took the decision to undergo the surgery in order to 'take her life back'. Katie wrote: 'It feels like something in me has changed, apart form being sans uterus. Right now, I'm in lots of pain. I'm bloated. I'm exhausted. I'm hot. I'm forgetful. I'm hot (see how that works on multiple levels. 'I feel raw and less like myself. Less like a woman, if I'm being really honest. But this was a decision I made to take my life back. To stop surviving and start living again, & have days that aren't defined by pain. 'This is hopefully the beginning of healing. The beginning of self-love, scars, stitches and all. And please, if you've made it this far, I ask gently: This is something deeply personal. 'If you're tempted to leave a judgmental or flippant comment, I'm asking you to just scroll on. There is a real person behind this post.' Katie and Nick, 27 years her senior, exchanged vows last month during a lavish six-figure wedding at Braxted Park in Essex. The couple were thought to have spared no expense on the ceremony, which was attended by a host of celebrity guests including Nick's Strictly Come Dancing co-stars. Nick cut a sharp figure on the big day in a pink blazer, while the new Mrs Knowles slipped in an eye-catching white and blue floral number. The newly weds have however been the subject of cruel trolling during their relationship, with critics mocking their age difference and financial setup. Katie, who is 27 years her spouse's junior, hit back at trolls dubbing her a gold-digger in an exclusive interview with MailOnline Katie, began dating her spouse in 2021, hit back at those dubbing her a 'gold digger', revealing they don't get to her as much as they used to because she and Nick know it's not true. Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, she said of their age gap: ''I think at the start, it was probably more irritating, especially for my family. But now those comments kind of just pass over me because we both know it's not true. Katie stressed: 'Nick works hard, he has what he has. I work hard, I have what I have and then we buy each other stuff.' Katie continued: 'We're both really comfortable with where we are with that and you will always get it because there's an age gap. 'I know plenty of people who are together and the same age where someone's using the other one for money and they're not happy. 'So as long as I know it's not true and he knows it's not true, I think that's, that's pretty much all that matters.' Nick has an estimated £7.5 million net worth but Katie has built up an impressive lingerie brand, having launched Boa Boa in 2022. She has proved to be her own best advert for the brand, modelling the skimpy looks to her 102,000 Instagram followers. WHAT IS A HYSTERECTOMY? A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove a woman's uterus. There are three kinds: PARTIAL HYSTERECTOMY: Removes two-thirds of the uterus. TOTAL HYSTERECTOMY: Removes uterus and cervix. RADICAL HYSTERECTOMY: Removes uterus, cervix and vagina. The operation is most commonly performed on women between the ages of 40 and 49. More than 20 million American women have had a hysterectomy, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As women approach menopause, the odds that they will develop one of several serious uterine health conditions increases. Doctors may recommend a hysterectomy as a treatment for: fibroids endometriosis uterine (endometrial) cancer chronic uterine pain or bleeding collapsed uterus In some cases, doctors may suggest a hysterectomy as a preventative measure if a woman has significant warning or early signs of developing one or more of these conditions. When necessary, surgeons may also remove the ovaries and fallopian tubes, if these have also been damaged or are at serious risk of damage. The removal of reproductive organs sends a woman's body into menopause, no matter how old she is.

Emmerdale slapped with HUNDREDS of Ofcom complaints for homophobic abuse scenes - with viewers sobbing as character brutally beaten and conned out of cash
Emmerdale has been slapped with hundreds of Ofcom complaints after scenes of homophobic abuse. Viewers of the soap were left sobbing after character Vinny Dingle, played by Bradley Johnson, was brutally beaten before being conned out of money in a recent episode. In recent scenes, Vinny - who is engaged to a woman - expressed confusion over his sexuality and began speaking to a man who he met on an online support forum. And in an episode which aired last week, Vinny realised that Mike, the man had been talking to online, actually had a dark ulterior motive and ultimately showed up at Vinny's house before attacking, blackmailing and stealing from him. According to The Sun, 279 people contacted Ofcom with concerns over the episode, with the complaints objecting to 'violent and sexual content before the watershed'. Vinny had started speaking to Mike online after feeling confused about his sexuality. But out of the blue Mike turned up at Vinny's home, claiming that his girlfriend had thrown him out of the house. The situation took a dark turn when Mike started verbally abusing Vinny about his sexuality. Mike then attacked Vinny, brutally kicking and punching him and leaving him shaking on the floor. In an even more painful turn, Mike then forced Vinny to send him £10,000, blackmailing him with secret recordings he had taken of Vinny confessing to being confused about his sexuality. Vinny, who is engaged to female character Gabby Thomas, played by Rosie Bentham, felt he had no choice but to obey the demand. Mike also stole Vinny and Gabby's wedding rings, before making a run for it. Viewers were left in tears by the episode, with one writing: 'How powerful were the Vinny scenes last night? 'So sad seeing poor Vinny get beaten again - for nothing. He was being vulnerable and honest in who he is. Hope Mike gets his comeuppance!' 'I knew there was something fishy about that bloke when Vinny first met him. But I wish #emmerdale hadn't got as dark as this. I much prefer the old,' another said. Viewers were left in tears by the episode, with one writing: 'How powerful were the Vinny scenes last night?' It comes after a huge Emmerdale star quit the ITV soap - and will be written out as his character makes a 'fatal mistake that exposes their true colours'. Actor Oliver Farnworth, 43, has played John Sugden in the Dales since 2024. In recent weeks his alter-ego has been involved in a bit of drama, and last month Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) battered his long lost brother John to the ground in a brutal attack. Since Robert returned to the village earlier this year, the pair haven't seen eye to eye as John has tied the knot with Robert's ex Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). After 144 episodes on Emmerdale as the paramedic practitioner, he's ready to take on other roles. A source told The Sun: 'It's the beginning of the end for John. 'He's got away with so much but he's about to make a fatal mistake that sees him exposed for what he is. 'Obviously Oliver knew that a character like John had a shelf life and that's rapidly approaching.
