Lorraine Kelly praised for sharing truth about her hair on ITV show
The Scottish presenter didn't hesitate when reaching for the back of her head to show viewers
Lorraine Kelly fans lauded the presenter after she revealed her natural look by removing a hair extension during today's programme (June 26). In a segment with celebrity stylist Richard Ward, the Scottish presenter and mother-of-one disclosed that she wears the extension "for telly", shedding light on a widespread health issue affecting many women.
As she reached behind her head, Lorraine told her audience: "Can I just say, every morning when I'm on the telly, I have these wee things." She then detached a hair extension and twirled it above her head, adding with a touch of fun: "Look, da, da, da, da,".
Her guest, stylist Richard Ward, replied in delight: "Oh my god, that's fantastic," to which Lorraine responded: "Aren't they great?! I don't do it for real, true life, but I do it for telly. Helen puts them in in the morning," she explained. The moment can be viewed in the clip below.
Continuing the lighthearted mood, Lorraine stretched the hair piece across her face and under her chin. "Look, ta da!" She said. "It can double as a beard." Richard commented: "That is amazing." Lorraine added: "It just gives you a little bit more round there."
This afternoon, Lorraine's official Instagram account shared a snippet from the show's segment, reports Gloucestershire Live. The post was captioned: "After celebrity stylist Richard Ward gave one viewer a transformation to help with thinning hair on today's show, Lorraine makes a confession about her own hair!"
In the comment section, one admirer by the name of Jai replied: "I just love you." Belle added: "Love Lorraine!" Deb shared her affection, writing: "I just love Lorraine, she is so real and down to earth."
Rachael Woolston suggested: "You should do a little segment on this as I know lots of women suffer from thinning hair in midlife." Jud agreed: "Yes, do a feature on hair pieces, wigs, supplements, etc!!"
When the same footage was uploaded on Facebook, further plaudits were awarded to Lorraine for her openness. One viewer expressed: "I love you and your honesty, you make us all feel real." Another said: "Well done, Lorraine."
This heart-to-heart about Lorraine's own hair came shortly after Richard Ward transformed a viewer's appearance, focusing on thinning hair solutions. Yesterday, the renowned stylist told his followers he'd be gracing the ITV show with his presence.
His announcement was as follows: "[I'm] back on your screens with a transformation for someone struggling with thinning hair due to ageing, menopause, long COVID, or illness." He continued: "If you've been holding onto long hair that's lost its fullness, don't miss this! Watch as [I] create a gorgeous, confidence-boosting summer restyle, proof that with the right cut and care, thinning hair can still look incredible."
Hair thinning is a common issue among women, particularly as around half of those aged 70 and above experience female-pattern baldness. It's also completely normal for women to experience temporary hair loss post-pregnancy. Many women notice their hair thinning during perimenopause and menopause.
The NHS explains: "There are lots of different types of hair loss. It can take the form of 'thinning' or involve a total loss of hair. It can be gradual or sudden; it can affect the old and the young. Hair loss can be genetic, or as a result of extreme stress, a medical condition or treatment. Hair loss is a well-known side effect of chemotherapy. It's also common for women to lose more hair than usual up to 3 months after they've given birth."
Common causes of thinning hair in women:
Female pattern hair loss (FPHL): This is the most prevalent form of hair loss among women and is often passed down through families. It usually results in a slow thinning of hair, especially on the crown and sides of the head.
Hormonal changes: Changes in hormones, such as those that occur during pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause, can interfere with the hair growth cycle, resulting in temporary or even permanent hair thinning.
Medical conditions: Certain health issues, like thyroid problems, autoimmune disorders, and anaemia, can lead to hair loss as a symptom.
Medications: Some drugs, including specific blood pressure medications, gout treatments, and high doses of vitamin A, may cause hair loss as a side effect.
Nutritional deficiencies: Lack of iron, vitamins A, B, D & E, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids can affect hair health and lead to thinning.
Stress: Both physical and emotional stress can trigger a condition known as telogen effluvium, where hair follicles go into a resting phase and may shed prematurely.
Hairstyles and hair care: Tight hairstyles (like braids or ponytails), excessive heat styling, and harsh hair products can harm hair follicles, resulting in breakage and thinning.
The NHS says: "Hair loss can be particularly difficult for women. But there are ways to cope." If you're experiencing sudden or severe hair loss, it's crucial to see a doctor or dermatologist to determine the cause and discuss possible treatments. Find out more about hair loss.
Choices regarding treatment include being prescribed medications like topical minoxidil (Rogaine), which is a popular option for treating female pattern hair loss, and other medications might be suggested based on the underlying cause. In certain situations, hair transplant surgery could be a viable choice for enhancing hair density.
Maintaining a balanced diet, managing stress levels, and steering clear of harsh hair treatments can contribute to better hair health. Some supplements such as biotin, iron, and vitamin D might be advised to tackle nutritional deficiencies.

Liam Payne's sister honours brother's last TV appearance with heartfelt tribute
Liam Payne's sister Ruth has shared her 'immeasurable pride' over his appearance on Netflix's latest show Building the Band, which he filmed months before his tragic passing Liam Payne's sister Ruth shared her "immeasurable pride" after seeing her late brother in his final TV appearance. The late One Direction star, who tragically died at age 31 last year after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina, appears as a judge in the upcoming Netflix series Building the Band. His older sister Ruth Gibbins said she was "heartbroken" that Liam wouldn't get the opportunity to see himself on the show. Ruth took to Instagram to share the tribute, writing: "I didn't know whether to share this, but it felt odd when I've raved about Liam's work and achievements for the past 15 years." "I'm heartbroken he never got the chance to see how brilliant he is in this show. He knew he had done a good job, we all told him this when we were at filming, but watching it back, wow!". "You're a star Liam, you always were and always will be. There are a range of emotions I felt watching this, but one of the main ones is immeasurable pride, always. Miss you more every day," she continued. Building the Band premiers on Netflix on July 9, with presenter AJ McLean promising the series is "unlike anything you have ever seen before". The Backstreet Boys singer previously stated: "Today's most talented singers in the world will audition for each other and choose their own bandmates before ever seeing them. "Our judge and mentor Nicole Scherzinger, and guest judges Kelly Rowland and the late Liam Payne, are from some of the biggest bands of all time. This show is all about one word: chemistry. And believe me: in a band, you really need some good chemistry." Liam completed filming for the show - where singers try to form a band while remaining in separate booths, unable to see one another - several months before his tragic passing last October, the Mirror reports. The synopsis for the series reads: "All they [the contestants] have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit ... with incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal - to find the next great music band - the stage is set for an unforgettable experience." Meanwhile, Liam's friend DJ Fat Tony recently revealed that he attempted to "help" the singer with his addiction "demons." Speaking to The Times Magazine, the 59-year-old DJ - a recovering addict who has been sober for 18 years - shared: "I tried to help Liam Payne with his demons. He was incredible - a really close friend." "There were so many amazing times where he got clean and sober. Not everyone makes it. It's a real shame what happened, falling off the balcony. I'm devastated by it," he shared. "Addiction is a big part of our industry. People see being sober and clean as more problematic than being drunk and high. They'll help you on that drink and drug journey, but not on the sober journey."

Advertisement While he's been playing football in France, and frolicking with make-up artist to the stars Lou, 41, off the pitch, Andy's ex, former Towie star Billi Mucklow, 37, has been looking after their three young kids, plus his two teenage children from a previous relationship, back in the UK. A source said: 'There are genuine fears that Andy and Lou won't last when they return to the UK. "Their relationship has effectively been a big holiday romance, and they are going to be seriously tested when returning to reality. "Andy has clearly made it his priority to be closer to his children. "While that is admirable, things might not be the same for him and fun-loving Lou back in the UK." Advertisement During Andy's time in France, he and Lou - who Andy affectionately calls his "T Total" because she doesn't drink - have shared photos galore of their sun-kissed life. It very much looks like a holiday romance from the outside and everyone knows what happens to those when the sun stops shining A Sun source In April, they headed to Magaluf for a one-day "loliday", as Lou described it. Then, following the end of Bordeaux's season, Andy - once the most expensive footballer in British history, after joining Liverpool for £35 million in 2011 - whisked Lou off to Ibiza in May. An insider added: "It very much looks like a holiday romance from the outside and everyone knows what happens to those when the sun stops shining. Andy Carroll quizzed by cops twice after bust-ups with girlfriend at packed restaurant and hotel during Greek holiday 'Lou loves travel and working as an influencer means she's always here, there and everywhere. Advertisement "It's very much up in the air about how things will actually work for them once they are home." COUPLE CLASH In fact, cracks have already started appearing between Andy and Lou after he was quizzed by the police twice over bust-ups with her during a break on the Greek party island of Mykonos earlier this month. After the first clash, a worker at restaurant Nikolus Tavern said: 'He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. 'He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' Following a chat with cops, during which Andy was 'very calm', the striker returned to Lou. Advertisement However, hours later officers escorted him to a local police station for questioning after reports of damage to the couple's room at a £500-a-night boutique hotel. It's very much up in the air about how things will actually work for them once they are home A Sun source A hotel worker confirmed the incident, telling The Sun on Sunday: 'Yes, they were staying here. He broke the door.' Carroll wasn't arrested, and it's understood no further action was taken, but Lou stayed elsewhere that night, checking into celebrity hotspot Soho Roc House private members' club. One British holidaymaker spotted the pair engaged in a bust-up and claimed he heard the former Liverpool striker shout at her: 'I'm done with us!' LOU'S LOVE Before Andy, Lou's last romance was with SAS: Who Dares Wins star Jay Morton. Advertisement The former soldier, 41, and the make-up artist were first spotted looking loved-up at Coachella Music Festival in April 2022, but by January 2023 they had gone their separate ways and Lou wiped all trace of Jay from her social media. She wrote on Instagram at the time: 'No 2022 dump from me because it was the most horrible year of my life. Be kind and look after people.' Lou's social media has often been a happy hunting ground for her. The star previously told how she has found guys on Instagram, and said it was an 'easy' way to meet men. When speaking about social media hook-ups in a 2022 episode of podcast Sex, Lies & DM Slides, she said: 'It's just men, isn't it? I do think there is a bit of a thing going on with the blue ticks. Advertisement "Like, they just go in with it and it's a bit of a, 'Are you DTF [down to f**k]?' But without saying that. 'It's not as literal as that, but you genuinely can, if you want to, have sex, probably go and meet someone off Towie quite quickly.' Nomadic lifestyle Asked if she's been messaging anyone from Towie, she said: 'Loads of them. Not this year, but I have in the past. I'm not saying. "There is a little world going on, and it's quite easy to go and meet someone from Instagram. "I generally find just talking on Instagram is better for dating. I meet more blokes that way." Advertisement Lou is also no stranger to membership-based dating app Raya, and previously admitted she would 'always connect' with people she 'already knows a little bit'. She added: 'So it's really easy to start chatting.' Lou - who first shot to fame as One Direction's make-up artist, and remains close pals with Harry Styles - has a daughter, Lux Atkin, 13, with musician Tom Atkin, 40. Lux - @Baby Lux on her 23,000-follower Instagram account - was previously dubbed 'One Direction's youngest fan', after she was often pictured with the Story Of My Life hitmakers. Lou led a nomadic lifestyle while on tour with the boyband, and that has continued throughout her life. Advertisement MARRIAGE MATERIAL? In May, Andy's friends were convinced he was planning to pop the question to Lou - as soon as his divorce from Billi was finalised. A friend told The Sun on Sunday at the time: 'Lou is already telling her mates they have discussed marriage, and Andy thinks he's met his soulmate. "Their connection is so strong. He has never felt like this before. 'He definitely wants to put a ring on it. It's been a whirlwind romance for both of them. "But they're playing for keeps." Advertisement Meanwhile, Andy and Billi are still thrashing out their divorce, after separating in September 2024 - with he and Lou revealing their romance weeks later. Billi recently showed Andy just what he is missing when she shared several stunning bikini pictures of her own on Instagram, during a break in Mallorca. She added the caption: 'Back To My Happy Place." But will a return to England be a happy place for Andy and Lou? I fell out of love with everything. I was very depressed. I wouldn't go out of the house, I had to wear a hat if I did. I hated everything and everybody Andy Carroll The footballer recently admitted his final years in England were a "nightmare", before he was offered an escape route from French side Amiens in 2023, and then signed for fourth-tier club Bordeaux in 2024. Advertisement Speaking to The Independent in November, he said: "I fell out of love with everything. I was very depressed. I wouldn't go out of the house, I had to wear a hat if I did. I hated everything and everybody." Andy also told how he has enjoyed a much 'easier' and 'simpler life' in France. Speaking about fame having its "dark sides", he said: "In France I live a much easier, simpler life. 'People recognise me in the street but respect me. "That's key to my happiness."
