Karan Johar admits he had issues with Kartik Aaryan: ‘Family mein gile shikwe ho jaate hain'
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Karan shared how they worked things out.
He said, 'I think we internally discussed it, worked it out and let bygones be bygones. Kartik is an immensely hardworking actor and a very connective big star today who has a wide audience space. He has a great instinct on screenplay. He and I met, collaborated and decided to come together — it was all lovely.'
'I have had, he's had issues with each other, but it's a tiny industry, which I call a family. I believe that in a family, kabhi kabhi gile shikwe ho jaate hain (sometimes complaints and misunderstandings happen), but I think good people want to make good films, create good content and, as I said, we don't sweat the small stuff — we have a larger vision to look at.'
Karan Johar's Dharma Productions backed Dostana 2. It was initially set to star Kartik and Janhvi Kapoor. Around the same time, Kartik was rumoured to be dating Janhvi.
The project was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Later, the production team shared that the cast of the film would undergo changes, confirming Kartik's exit.
Meanwhile, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri will star Ananya Panday, opposite Kartik in the lead. It is directed by Sameer Vidwans, who worked with Kartik in SatyaPrem Ki Katha.
The film is currently under production. It is set to hit the theatres on February 13, 2026.
Besides this, Kartik also has Nagzilla, which is eyeing a release next year as well.
His last film was Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar's last film to release was Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar. He is currently busy with the hosting duties of Amazon Prime Video's The Traitors. He is also promoting his debut podcast series, Live Your Best Life with Karan Johar.

Karan Johar Asks Fans To 'Move On' From Ibrahim-Khushi Kapoor Bashing For Nadaaniyan: 'Leave Us Alone'
Last Updated: After months of memes and harsh reviews for Nadaaniyan, Karan Johar admits the project didn't get the love they hoped for – and wants everyone to move on. Nadaaniyan dropped on OTT with a promising young cast but quickly became the internet's latest punchline. From brutal reviews to meme overload, the Ibrahim Ali Khan–Khushi Kapoor starrer found itself at the centre of online trolling. Speaking on a podcast with Suchin Mehrotra, Karan admitted that the response stung – but urged audiences to stop dragging it. 'As a creative artist, as a collaborator, no film that receives criticism ever makes me happy. How can it? Even if a gazillion people watched it and it wasn't liked, it was watched for the wrong reasons," he said. The filmmaker made it clear he wasn't in denial about the show's reception. 'You cannot! I am sorry, I will be very stupid to be deluded about the fact that it didn't get the love, did not get liked, it was dissed, it was b**ched, and maybe a bit more than it should have. I am like, 'Yaar, let it go' after a point. It's a film you didn't like, move on, can you?" 'Bashing Nadaaniyan Became A Trend' Karan recalled how content creators turned the backlash into a trend that kept the conversation going for weeks. 'There were YouTube creators and content creators who were making four videos on it, you made one, right? You know you're getting the hits again and again, because bashing Nadaaniyan was like the fashion of that moment. It was really making people kind of go and watch your YouTube video and they were enjoying it. It was celebrated negatively and that does happen sometimes." 'We've Accepted It, Now You Move On': Karan Johar While Karan said that the project didn't receive the love they hoped for, he also said the team had learnt from it. 'That put aside, I have no way to tell you that it got massive numbers so I am happy about it. No, I can't be happy about it. It didn't get the love. We have to accept it, acknowledge it, move on from it, and do better next time." The producer revealed that discussions had taken place internally and hinted there'd be no public apology. 'All of us are very self-aware, it's a part of my personality type. Will I go and apologise for it? No, I will probably speak with the team, take stock of it, and do that. We have dealt with it internally and that's all we really want to speak about it. But now, can you move on to the next bad show or film? Leave us alone. We have moved on and so should you." Produced by Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment and directed by Shauna Gautam, the project also featured Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhary, Jugal Hansraj, Dia Mirza and Archana Puran Singh.
