Mussolini's great-grandson hopes skills on football pitch outweigh family name, World News
The 22-year-old right back, on loan from Lazio, joined Cremonese earlier this month after the club earned promotion to the Italian top flight via the Serie B playoffs.
"I'm here to play football. My surname? It has bothered others more than it's ever bothered me. It's a heavy name for others, but not for me," Floriani Mussolini told a press conference on Wednesday (July 23).
"The less it's talked about, the better. I'm here to express myself on the pitch, nothing else... I want to gain valuable experience in Serie A, go up against more experienced players, and play as much as possible to showcase my abilities."
Floriani Mussolini is the son of Mauro Floriani and Italian politician Alessandra Mussolini, a former member of the European Parliament for the Forza Italia party and the grand-daughter of Benito Mussolini, who was prime minister of Italy from 1922 to 1943 following a fascist coup.
Floriani Mussolini, who can also play as a winger, made 37 appearances for Juve Stabia last season, who lost to Cremonese in the semi-finals of the playoffs. He joined the Lazio youth academy at the age of 13 from rivals AS Roma.
"The match against Lazio will be special, it's the team I grew up with and support," he added.
"But right now I'm focused on giving my all for Cremonese, and I want to win that one."
Cremonese begin their Serie A campaign away to AC Milan on Aug 23.

Arsenal beat Newcastle in five-goal thriller to bring Singapore Festival of Football to a close
SINGAPORE – Some 38,720 fans were treated to a spectacle between English Premier League sides Arsenal and Newcastle United at the National Stadium on July 27, which saw the star turn of 15-year-old Max Dowman as the Gunners won 3-2. The game wrapped up the 2025 Singapore Festival of Football, which also featured a game between Arsenal and Italian giants AC Milan on July 23, with the London side winning 1-0. The crowd on July 27 was a marked improvement from the 22,813 that turned up for the first game, although there were still swathes of empty seats visible. Those who did turn up were treated to an unveiling of new Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Swede, who signed for a reported £55 million (S$94 million), had been announced by the Gunners on July 26, and received rapturous applause from the Arsenal supporters as he strolled out onto the pitch at Kallang in an Arsenal kit with the number 14 emblazoned on the back of his jersey. The action on the pitch, too, was an upgrade from the somewhat plodding football that was on display at times in the Arsenal-Milan game. Hamilton to start from the pit lane in Belgium
SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium - Lewis Hamilton will start Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix from the pit lane with a new power unit after qualifying only 16th, Ferrari said. The seven-times Formula One world champion won at Spa with Mercedes last year but has had a nightmare so far, qualifying 18th in Friday's sprint qualifying and finishing 15th in Saturday's 100km race. Hamilton has won five times in Belgium and has been on the podium in all but two of the races he has finished at the longest circuit on the calendar. The Briton, who moved to the Italian team in January and has yet to stand on the podium for them, apologised to Ferrari on Saturday for a performance he said was unacceptable. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli will also start from the pit lane after those teams also changed engine components. Sunday's race is set to be wet.
