Aamir Khan's forthcoming film, Sitare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, has garnered a lot of buzz among moviegoers. The film explores compelling themes of inclusion, empathy, and resilience through the inspirational experiences of children with special needs.
Amid the buzz for Aamir Khan's new film, Sitaare Zameen Par, a look back at his distinguished career reveals a constant trend of selecting films that combine entertainment and poignant storytelling.
Taare Zameen Par
This film was directed by Aamir Khan and he starred in it as well. It revolves around the life of Ishaan, a young kid with dyslexia and his journey to be understood and encouraged by his art teacher. The film beautifully shows the problems experienced by children with learning disabilities, as well as how guardians and other adults around them help.
PK
The film shows the unusual journey of an alien whose remote control is stolen on Earth. The film conveyed a deeper message about religious harmony and those who seek to undermine it by sowing seeds of enmity. This Aamir Khan film was an engaging parody of people who exploit people's faith for profit.
3 Idiots
This critically acclaimed film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, stars Aamir Khan as Rancho, a free-thinking engineering student who defies the traditional academic system and urges his classmates to pursue their dreams. 3 Idiots emphasises the value of learning for knowledge and understanding rather than merely achieving grades.
Rang De Basanti
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed Rang De Basanti delved into the life of Daljit 'DJ', a carefree college student who, with his friends, becomes engrossed with the story of Indian freedom warriors while filming a documentary. The film beautifully juxtaposes the past and present, instilling patriotism and challenging societal complacency.
Lagaan
This film, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, was set during the British Raj and stars Aamir Khan as Bhuvan, a peasant who rallies his village members to challenge the British to a cricket match to escape paying high taxes. The film's themes include dedication, unity and shed light on the problems faced by the peasants in that era.

When Suniel Shetty addressed rumours of Aamir Khan carrying a ‘pistol': ‘What you hear is not always true'

Over the years, many stories have done the rounds about Bollywood's connection with the Mumbai underworld. The 90s era in particular was believed to be deeply influenced by gangsters. But what's true and what's not? In a fan interaction, Suniel Shetty cleared the air, especially about the long-standing rumour that Aamir Khan always carried a gun for protection. 'We are absolutely safe out here' During an old chat with fans on Rediff, a user asked Suniel a rather bold question: 'Tell me, do Bollywood stars live under constant threat from the underworld? I have heard that Aamir Khan always carries a pistol. What about you?" Suniel quickly shut down the claim, replying, 'It's all nonsense — what you hear and read is not always true. We are absolutely safe out here.' His firm denial suggested that such rumours are mostly overblown, and that stars like Aamir Khan don't really live in fear or walk around with weapons as many people think. When Suniel Shetty faced real threats Though he denied the idea that actors carry guns or live in fear, Suniel a few days ago shared a shocking story during a conversation with Lallantop. He opened up about the time when underworld threats were real and personal. In the 90s, the Shetty name was known for being bold and united. Suniel said gangsters tried to target him because of his surname, thinking they could scare other families with the same name into paying protection money. He shared, 'Maybe they thought that if they scare him, then other Shettys will also start paying hafta out of fear. Toh ek din Hemant Pujari ne mujhe phone karke bola ki tere pitaji jab subah 5-5.30 baje walk ke liye jaate hain, tab main unhe goli maar doonga.' (So one day, Hemant Pujari called me and said, 'When your father goes for a walk around 5 to 5:30 in the morning, I will shoot him.) Instead of showing fear, Suniel gave it back to the caller in full force. He said he didn't even let the gangster speak properly. 'I couldn't hold myself back. I also abused him. I didn't even let him speak.' And then came the most powerful part. Suniel told the caller that he knew where his family lived and that he had more money and stronger contacts than the gangster could imagine. He said, 'Maine bataya usko ki uski behnein kahaan rehti hain, uske chaar bhai kahaan hain, uska saala kahaan hai. Maine bola mere paas tujhse zyada paise bhi hain aur connections bhi. Aur ek 70–80 saal ke aadmi ko goli maar ke kya kar loge? Yeh karke kehna kya chahte ho? Aur maine gaaliyan de di. Yeh call record ho gaya tha. Mere paas security thi.' (I told him where his sisters live, where his four brothers are, and where his brother-in-law is. I said, 'I have more money and connections than you. And what will you achieve by shooting a 70–80-year-old man? What are you trying to prove by doing that?) Aamir Khan Gets Tipsy & Blackout on His 60th Birthday | Full Story Revealed

Housefull 5 box office collection day 10: Akshay Kumar comedy earns Rs 162 cr; surpasses OMG 2, nears Kesari

Returning to the comedy franchise Housefull 5 has reaped rich dividends for Akshay Kumar, who has achieved his first Rs 150 crore hit in five years. While his 2023 film OMG 2 also achieved the feat, it was headlined by Pankaj Tripathi. Kumar's last film as a lead to breach the Rs 150 crore mark at the domestic box office was Raj Mehta's 2019 comedy Good Newwz. On day 10, its second Sunday at the domestic box office, Housefull 5 earned Rs 12.3 crore. This was an improvement on its Saturday earnings of Rs 10.2 crore, a further increase from its Friday figure of Rs 6.6 crore. After crossing Rs 100 crore on its first Monday, the film had finished its opening week at Rs 133.58 crore. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the current domestic box office collection of Housefull 5 stands at Rs 162.69 crore. Thus, the film has already crossed of Kumar's previous Rs 100 crore club members. These include Toilet – Ek Prem Katha (Rs 134.22 crore), Rowdy Rathore (Rs 133.25 crore), Sky Force (Rs 131.44 crore), Rustom (Rs 127.49 crore), Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 117 crore), Holiday – A Solider Is Never Off Duty (Rs 112.45 crore), Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crore), Housefull 2 (Rs 106 crore), and Gold (Rs 104.72 crore). Adarsh wrote on X, 'Housefull5 posts a solid second weekend, recording impressive numbers on Saturday and Sunday… The noticeable growth on these two days, in particular, is certainly a positive sign. Going forward, Housefull 5 needs to maintain its momentum to achieve a healthy total, especially with Sitaare Zameen Par expected to capture a significant share of the market.' The other films in Kumar's Rs 100 crore+ club are towards the Rs 200 crore mark. These include 2.0 (Rs 189.55 crore), Housefull 4 (Rs 194.60 crore), Mission Mangal (Rs 202.98 crore), and Good Newwz (Rs 205.14 crore). Housefull 5 has another four days to perform sans competition before Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par enters the race. Directed by RS Prasanna, the spiritual sequel to Aamir's 2008 directorial debut Taare Zameen Par will release in cinemas this Friday on June 20. Beyond the lack of competition, Housefull 5 seems to have benefitted from multiple other factors. Firstly, it's part of a successful franchise which dates back 15 years to 2010. The first Housefull, directed by Sajid Khan, and starring Kumar and others, also crossed the Rs 75 crore mark at the domestic box office. The second, third, and fourth instalments breached the Rs 100 core mark, and Housefull 5 is yet to beat the figure achieved by the previous instalment which released in 2019. Returning actors include Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Johnny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Ranjit, and Shreyas Talpade. New actors joining the franchise include Fardeen Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Sonam Bajwa, Chitrangada Singh, Soundarya Sharma, Nargis Fakhri, Dino Morea, and Nikitin Dheer among others. Thirdly, Housefull 5 has released in two versions — A and B — which have different killers and endings. It's produced and written by Sajid Nadiadwala.
