Sports specialist Macron sees surging revenues as Europe, UK and US boom

Italian sportswear business Macron — whose largest markets are the UK and Italy — has reported strong sales growth for the first half of the year.
It saw total revenues of €107 million, up from €93 million for the same period last year and only €79 million in H1 2023. The Bologna-based firm's H1 revenue rise was 14.7% year on year for the half and 30% on a two-year basis.
And for the full year it expects record revenues. It didn't put a monetary figure or percentage on that but last year's annual revenue reached €223.6 million.
Its sales are increasingly derived from markets outside of Italy and as well as the UK being hugely important to it, the company has seen 'significant growth' in Germany and the US.
And it added that growth has also been driven by investments in the Macron Campus with construction having begun on the fourth building that will further increase the company's overall operational capacity.
For instance, German revenues rose 45% in the period and US revenues — while coming from a low starting point — were up by an even bigger percentage. They rose from €1.4 million in H1 2024 to €5.4 million in H1 2025. That was helped by the opening of the new distribution centre in Connecticut in 2024, which it said 'further demonstrates Macron's ability to achieve its growth objectives even in macroeconomic environments marked by volatility'.
It's also a further sign of how smaller players in the sportswear market are challenging the dominance of much bigger global names.
CEO Gianluca Pavanello said: 'The results achieved in the first half once again confirm the soundness of our growth path and the value of the strategic choices made in recent years, particularly in terms of internationalisation and our unwavering commitment to product quality.
'Our expansion into complex markets shows that our model based on innovation, sporting passion and attention to detail is appreciated worldwide. At the same time, the ongoing investments in the Macron Campus are essential to supporting this growth: we want to keep improving, looking to the future with ambition, convinced that beautiful things are created in beautiful places.'

Birkenstock beat third-quarter profit expectations on Thursday on strong demand for its clogs and shoes at full price, and said it was well placed to manage the hit from a 15% US tariff on European imports. Shares of the German sandal maker jumped 5% in premarket trading as it also stuck to its annual margin forecast despite a "significantly weaker" dollar. Birkenstock's suede leather closed-toe Boston clogs, which sell at $179.95 online, have seen firm demand from wealthy shoppers despite price increases, boosting its gross margin by 100 basis points to 60.5%. The company makes 95% of its shoes at its own factories in Germany and expects to manage the fallout of US tariffs through price increases, cost discipline and inventory management, CEO Oliver Reichert reiterated. To offset tariff impact, it had raised prices by low single-digit in the last quarter. Sustained demand and strong full-price sales have also boosted performance at high-end peers such as Ralph Lauren 's Polo t-shirts and Hoka shoes from Deckers Outdoor. Birkenstock's sales in Americas grew 16% after accounting for currency fluctuations, compared with 20% growth in the previous three months. It reported quarterly revenue of 635 million euros ($741.49 million), compared with expectations of 636.74 million euros, according to data compiled by LSEG. On an adjusted basis, it earned 62 euros per share, above the estimate of 60 euros. Birkenstock maintained fiscal 2025 revenue growth at the high-end of its forecast range of 15% to 17%, while its expectations for adjusted EBITDA margin - a measure of profitability - remained unchanged at 31.3% to 31.8%.

Tapestry kept up a brisk pace of sales in the April-June quarter, with revenue likely growing 5.5%, thanks to growing demand for its stylish handbags that are more affordable than traditional luxury labels. Accessible luxury companies, including Tapestry and Ralph Lauren, are gaining momentum in an economy hit by tariffs and inflation, where younger shoppers are being more prudent with their purchases. Shoppers are walking away from the more opulent wares offered by luxury firms, including Kering. Revenue in the New York-based company's fiscal fourth quarter is expected to have climbed to 1.7 billion dollars, its second-quickest pace of growth in 12 quarters, according to LSEG data. Last week, Tapestry's rival and Michael Kors -owner Capri forecast quarterly revenue above estimates. Shares of Tapestry, which beat Wall Street revenue estimates in the past four quarters, have surged more than two-thirds this year. Revenue from the Coach brand, which accounted for 82% of the company's revenue for the first nine months of the year, likely grew almost 11% in the June quarter, according to LSEG estimates. "They've successfully repositioned the brand to target younger demographics with their Tabby and Brooklyn Bag brands," said Adam Steffanus, a managing director at Advisory Research Investment Management, which owns Tapestry stock. Steffanus noted that sales of European luxury brands LVMH and Chanel have suffered because they raised their prices too high. Tapestry said in May that it was well covered on cross-border tariff risk thanks to less than 10% of production from China and a diversified manufacturing base that includes 70% of production from Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. Still, Tapestry's other brand, Kate Spade, has been a drag on its performance. The brand has suffered from heavy promotions that have hurt its status as an upscale brand, Steffanus said. Morningstar analyst David Swartz said Coach could raise prices without driving away customers because of its high margins, but Tapestry cannot do the same for Kate Spade handbags. Kate Spade's revenue likely fell 13% in the April-June period, according to LSEG estimates. Tapestry reports earnings on Thursday. At least 16 analysts rate it "buy" or higher, with five rating it "hold." It has no "sell" calls, according to LSEG data.
