Is Texas a college baseball "Blue Blood?" Of course the Longhorns are a baseball "Blue Blood." Texas has the most (by far) College World Series appearances and UT is third on the list in national titles. But the topic has come up thanks to the matchup in the CWS championship series. LSU, a definite college baseball "Blue Blood," against a complete upstart in Coastal Carolina.
The conversation really started back in early June when a video edit about North Carolina popped up that called the Tar Heels a "Blue Blood," even though UNC has never won a CWS title.
But the topic has really accelerated thanks to the matchup in the CWS final series. Now the conversation is viral on social media.

Longhorns Wire actually wrote about this three years ago. Our list was Texas, USC, LSU, Arizona State, Miami, Cal State Fullerton and Arizona. Basically, every team with four or more national titles. Historically, they all fit and stats-wise they all fit.
Our definition of a "Blue Blood" is a program with sustained success over a long period of time. Vanderbilt, Oregon State, and Arkansas have had a lot of success recently, but "long" means "long." Oklahoma State and Florida State have a lot of College World Series appearances, but few trophies.
Much of the raging debate aligns with our list, including X/Twitter AI Grok. Others will add either FSU or Oklahoma State.
No matter how you slice it, two of the bluest "Blue Bloods" are in the SEC - Texas and LSU. The two programs haven't met a lot before this year, though there have definitely been some historical battles in Omaha.
Now that the Tigers and Longhorns are both in the SEC, the two programs will be bitter rivals for years to come. This season's series definitely helped light the fire.

The sophomore, who leads LSU in hittin in the CWS, has played his role as a dependable pinch hitter or starting outfielder. (Mitchell Scaglione / Special to the American Press) OMAHA, Neb. — Sulphur's Jake Brown is LSU's leading hitter in the College World Series. The sophomore might start in right field tonight when the Tigers open the best-of-three championship series against Coastal Carolina. Doesn't really matter. The start will go to either him or Josh Pearson, a fifth-year senior, good friend and the guy he most looks up to on the team. Regardless, Brown knows at some point he'll be called on. It's more than possible — it's almost inevitable. And chances are he'll make the most of his opportunities. 'Coaches do a good job,' Brown said of games he doesn't start. 'Stay ready, knowing the second my name is called, it will be an opportunity to help my team win.' He went in as a pinch hitter (and was hit by a pitch) in LSU's opener against Arkansas. He started the two-day adventure against UCLA and went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and a run. But his finest moment probably came in the wild Arkansas game when it was his two-run, pinch-hit double that got the Tigers' offense going in the sixth inning. A .335 hitter for the season, he's 4-for-6 (.750) in Omaha, has reached base in six of eight plate appearances, with four RBIs. LSU head coach Jay Johnson said he doesn't consider it a platoon with Pearson, but you can only play three outfielders. Both are left-handed hitters, so that's not a factor. Brown has more starts, 44 to 39, and some of Pearson's have been in left field. 'It's literally been game by game,' Johnson said, adding that it's nice to know both will be available. Pearson was a key factor in LSU's 2023 CWS title, when Brown was winning Louisiana Mr. Baseball honors at Sulphur High. 'And Jake, in my opinion, is one of the best players on our team,' Johnson said. 'One of the main reasons we are here in this position.' Brown is also known as one of teh most confident players on the team, a key factor when looking for a pinch hitter on days he doesn't start. 'It was time to use him,' Johnson said of inserting Brown with the bases loaded in that sixth inning against Arkansas. 'We needed to score right there.' Actually, he stepped in for center fielder Chris Stanfield. One way or another, Brown is living large in Omaha, fulfilling the dream that began in his Sulphur backyard. 'Nobody dreams about playing in an empty ballpark,' Brown said. 'When you're taking swings in the backyard…you're dreaming about playing in the biggest spotlight.' It doesn't hurt that he is a lifelong LSU baseball fan who grew up watching the Tigers and was in Omaha as a spectator for the 2023 championship. 'I remember being a little kid coming to the games and watching on TV,' he said. 'Those guys were like superheroes to me growing up.' Now he's on the other side. It's why he loves tossing balls into the stands, mingling with kids at the ballpark. 'I was in those shoes before,' he said. 'I know what it is like to be a little kid and a fan of the LSU Tigers.'

LSU football loses top quarterback target, four-star passer to SEC rival
LSU 2026 quarterback target Bowe Bentley committed to Oklahoma, per On3's Hayes Fawcett on Friday. The Tigers made a push for the four-star passer during the spring, landing in Bentley's top two alongside the Sooners. However, after taking official visits to both within the last month, he decided to head to Norman. Ranked No. 7 at his position and No. 11 out of Texas by On3's Industry Rankings, Bentley had a host of SEC offers to choose from. There have been multiple reports that say the Celina, TX native traveled to campus Friday to tell head coach Brent Venables and the staff in person. LSU's 2026 class still ranks first in the conference and second nationally, but it remains in search of a quarterback. There are two top-10 uncommitted passers remaining, but the Tigers aren't considered finalists for either, nor anyone in the top 30. LSU will now move its focus to flip targets. Just because Bentley committed doesn't mean he'll stop hearing from schools. Expect LSU to stay in his ear and possibly host him for another trip, and possibly for a game in Death Valley.

Ahead of LSU baseball's opening contest for the College World Series final in Omaha, the team received a special message from an iconic Tiger. Former LSU men's basketball star Shaquille O'Neal stood next to head coach Matt McMahon to motivate the Tigers a day before their clash with Coastal Carolina inside Charles Schwab Stadium. "Coach [Jay] Johnson, you know what you've got to do," O'Neal said. "LSU players, you know what you've got to do." The NBA legend then turned his attention to left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson, who will start on the bump against the Chanticleers. "Kade, I want you to look at that catcher and tell him no," O'Neal said. "Then tell him no again. Then I want you to get in that stand-up form, throw those strikes and bring home that championship." LSU has to feel good about its chances with Anderson on the mound. The lefty has emerged as one of the best pitchers in the country and is in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall pick in this Summer's MLB Draft. Anderson has a 3.44 ERA in 110 innings in 2025.
