See Shaquille O'Neal's message for Kade Anderson and Jay Johnson ahead of CWS final

USA Today4 hours ago

Ahead of LSU baseball's opening contest for the College World Series final in Omaha, the team received a special message from an iconic Tiger.
Former LSU men's basketball star Shaquille O'Neal stood next to head coach Matt McMahon to motivate the Tigers a day before their clash with Coastal Carolina inside Charles Schwab Stadium.
"Coach [Jay] Johnson, you know what you've got to do," O'Neal said. "LSU players, you know what you've got to do."
The NBA legend then turned his attention to left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson, who will start on the bump against the Chanticleers.
"Kade, I want you to look at that catcher and tell him no," O'Neal said. "Then tell him no again. Then I want you to get in that stand-up form, throw those strikes and bring home that championship."
LSU has to feel good about its chances with Anderson on the mound. The lefty has emerged as one of the best pitchers in the country and is in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall pick in this Summer's MLB Draft. Anderson has a 3.44 ERA in 110 innings in 2025. He leads the nation in strikeouts.

Eagles Slot Cornerback Named NFL Best

Eagles Slot Cornerback Named NFL Best originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Through the first four weeks of the 2024 season, the Philadelphia Eagles fielded one of the worst pass defenses in the game. All that changed after the bye week. Advertisement While some analysts will point to a more buttoned-up unit under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, one player's arrival certainly changed the foundation of Philadelphia's defense. Cooper DeJean, the defensive back out of Iowa, missed most of training camp and the first month of the season due to a hamstring injury. The moment he arrived on the field in Philadelphia's 20-16 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 6 (the first game after their bye week), he quickly became an integral part of Philly's defense. A few months later, not only is DeJean a Super Bowl champion/hero, but the league has begun to recognize him as the best in the league at his position. Bill Barnwell of ESPN wrote a piece this week detailing DeJean's prowess in the slot and how no cornerback can match the kind of impact he had on Philadelphia. Advertisement "Yes, he's already there," Barnwell said. "DeJean spent the first month of his rookie season on the sideline, but after Philadelphia's Week 5 bye, his move into the starting lineup coincided with a massive defensive improvement. "After ranking 26th in expected points added (EPA) per play on defense before the bye, the Eagles were comfortably the league's best defense by the same metric afterward." Barnwell did add that DeJean will see more time this year on the outside in addition to his usual work in the slot. The departure of Darius Slay will force the Eagles to get creative in the back end of their defense. DeJean appears more than up to the task. Advertisement If he's anything like he was in the slot last season, Philadelphia's nickel corner may be one of the league's best and most versatile players. Michael Wilbon Sends Warning To 'Critical' Media Members

Michael Wilbon Sends Warning To 'Critical' Media Members originally appeared on The Spun. ESPN's Michael Wilbon isn't in the mood to deal with hot-take artists. He made that abundantly clear this week. Advertisement Wilbon has hosted "Pardon the Interruption" since its inception in 2001. His partnership with Tony Kornheiser has made the show an ESPN classic. Of course, he has also made a name for himself without Kornheiser by his side. In 2020, he was inducted into the National Sports Media Association (NSMA) Hall of Fame. Obviously, Wilbon knows a thing or two about what sells in today's era of sports talk. That doesn't mean he has to agree with it though. Prior to Game 6 of the NBA Finals, Wilbon talked about Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton playing through injury on "Pardon the Interruption." Wilbon didn't just applaud Haliburton's toughness, he issued a warning to anyone thinking of criticizing the All-Star guard. Advertisement "Haliburton, who I flat out admire for going out there and playing and anybody who's critical of that effort to me is a fool, and I don't want to see them in front of me because I might take a swing at them," Wilbon said. "I don't want to hear it. Haliburton has my admiration for playing … people should shut up. Athletes are to be admired when they do this kind of thing." (Photo by)This isn't the first time that Wilbon has gotten brutally honest. In March, he criticized the current state of sports media during an interview with Bobby Burack of OutKick. "That's pandering. It's all pandering. Let me be clear: our business is a piece of [expletive] a lot of days," Wilbon told OutKick. "There is nobody enforcing standards or having tough conversations. This is what happens when you no longer have functioning newsrooms, because everyone is working from hotel rooms, from their bedrooms, and maybe even from their beds. Advertisement "People are not in newsrooms anymore or a studio, where you can call them out on their [expletive]. That's a problem. Instead, there are a bunch of 20-year-olds pitching stories while spending all day on social media and reinforcing each other's [expletive]. It's 100% pandering, and I hate it." Like it or not, Wilbon is brutally honest with his peers.
