Teenage boy arrested after death of 13-year-old girl in Huddersfield
West Yorkshire Police were called to a flat on Sheepridge Road at 11.36pm on Monday after the teenage girl was found unresponsive.
She was rushed to hospital but died in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and the teenage boy remains in custody, police said.
The girl's death was unexplained pending further investigation, according to a postmortem examination carried out on Wednesday.
DCI Stacey Atkinson of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said 'We are continuing to conduct a number of enquiries today following the death of a 13-year-old girl following an incident at a flat on Sheepridge Road.
'A post mortem was not able to determine how she died, and we continue to treat her death as unexplained at this time, pending more enquiries.
'Those enquiries are complex and are likely to be lengthy as we work to fully understand the circumstances of the girl's death. Specially trained officers are supporting her family at this time.'

A seven-month-old baby is missing after being kidnapped from his mother's truck as she tried to change his diaper outside a California sporting goods store. A frantic search is underway from Emmanuel Haro after he was wrenched from his mother Rebecca Haro, who was knocked unconscious during the attack. 'I'm begging you please, if you know anything, I'm begging you please bring him back,' Haro begged the public, as reported by CBS News. Haro had been watching her son and stepson at football practice when one of them needed a mouthguard, prompting her to leave the local stadium around 7pm to pick one up - and change Emmanuel's diaper. The mom says the last thing she remembers is someone greeting her in Spanish before she was knocked out in the parking lot. 'I was going to get the diaper and somebody said, "Hola,"' the mother told KTLA News. 'I don't remember anything since. I woke up here on the floor and I didn't see Emmanuel.' With a fresh black eye, the mother was overcome by a wave of crippling fear as she realized Emmanuel was missing. 'I checked all around my truck,' Rebecca told the outlet. 'And I ran into Big 5, and I asked the lady if she saw a baby or someone with a baby. She said no.' 'He's a happy boy,' she added. 'He was a healthy baby, he was crawling, he was kicking, he was playing with his toys. Whoever took our son, please give him back.' Officers with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene just before 8pm, where they brought along additional search tools, including K9 scent-tracking dogs to track either the child or a suspect down. 'Everybody came,' Rebecca told KTLA. 'The dogs, the helicopters.' Despite exhaustive search efforts, the family remains both confused and fearful, insisting they have no enemies and cannot understand who would want to harm them. 'Whoever took my son, please return him,' Emmanuel's father, Jake Haro, told the outlet. 'We just want him back. We won't do anything to you. Just give us our son. Keep him safe, don't hurt him, make sure you feed him and change him,' he added in tears. Rebecca echoed her husband's plea, adding: 'If you know anything, please come forward or take him to the cops. Please come and bring my son back. I'm begging you.' On Friday evening, friends and family gathered outside the sporting goods store to begin their own search efforts, armed with flyers they had prepared. Emmanuel is described as weighing approximately 21 pounds, standing about 24 inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a noticeable cross-eye. He was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie. Authorities have not released a suspect description, as the case remains under active investigation. Pro-trans activists clash with police at explosive women's rights protest
A 'sex-based women's rights ' protest has erupted as counter-protesters supporting transgender rights faced off with police. Protesters associated with Women's Voices Australia had gathered on the steps of Victorian Parliament House in Melbourne on Saturday. The group, which frequently uses the slogan 'biology isn't bigotry', prompted a demonstration from pro-trans activists who marched through the CBD to the building. The almost 100-strong counter-protest reached parliament at 11am before being pushed away by police officers who sparked an altercation. Individuals were seen jostling with officers, throwing various items including an umbrella and flares at police. At least four people have been arrested so far. Pro-trans protesters had also encouraged demonstrators to interfere with journalists. On Saturday, some members of the group could be seen using umbrellas to block TV news cameras and allegedly launched one at a journalist. 'Victoria Police has a completely impartial role when policing protests, prioritising public safety for all, keeping the peace, and preventing clashes,' a police spokesman said. 'As always, police respect the right for people to protest peacefully, however we have zero tolerance for those who threaten community or police safety.' Women's Voices Australia previously protested in April following the passage of anti-vilification laws in Victoria. During the earlier protest, four officers were injured after protesters threw various objects and missiles at police Protesters also attempted to block intersections while carrying wooden pallets. Premier League opener halted after Antoine Semenyo reports racist abuse
A man was ejected from Anfield after reports of racial abuse directed at Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo during the season's opening Premier League game against Liverpool. Match referee Anthony Taylor paused play in the 29th minute after Semenyo accused a spectator of racist abuse. An anti-discrimination message was read out to the Anfield crowd, and it is understood that police officers went into the referee's room at half-time. Merseyside Police said an investigation is under way after the 47-year-old man's identity was confirmed and he was removed from the ground. Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, the match commander for the Liverpool v Bournemouth game, said: "Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form. "We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible." He added: "There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police immediately, so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening. "As with all matches, we work very closely with both Liverpool and Everton FC to ensure the safety of the public, and the players." A spokesperson for Liverpool said the club was "aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against Bournemouth". The Liverpool spokesperson said: "We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football. "The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged is incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully." After the incident, Semenyo scored twice in the second half to help bring Bournemouth back from two goals down at Anfield before Liverpool went on to eventually win the contest 4-2. Bournemouth captain Adam Smith told Sky Sports News afterwards: "It shouldn't be happening. I don't know how Ant's played on to be honest and come up with those goals. It's totally unacceptable. "Something needs to be done. Taking the knee isn't having an effect. We're supporting him and hopefully he'll be OK. "I wanted him to react because that's what I would have done, but this shows what type of man he come up with those goals showed the type of guy he is. "To be fair the Liverpool players were very supportive as well towards Antoine and the rest of the team. It was handled in the right way but... so angry. "I don't know what else we can do. No one's getting it. I don't know what to say anymore. I just feel for Ant... shocking." The Premier League said in a statement that its "on-field anti-discrimination protocol" had been followed and the incident "will now be fully investigated". "We offer our full support to the player and both clubs," it added. "Racism has no place in our game, or anywhere in society. We will continue to work with stakeholders and authorities to ensure our stadiums are an inclusive and welcoming environment for all." The Football Association said it was "concerned" about the allegation of racism towards Semenyo and that it would ensure "appropriate action" would be taken. The incident comes two days after Tottenham Hotspur player Mathys Tel faced racist abuse online following a missed penalty in his team's UEFA Super Cup victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
