OPEN// Sisi to hold summit talks in Doha Monday with Qatari emir to review bilateral cooperation, Palestinian situation
DOHA, April 13 (MENA) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will hold a session of bilateral talks in the Qatari capital of Doha Monday.
The summit meeting will be followed by a plenary session of talks that will be held by senior officials of the two countries in the presence of the Egyptian and Qatari leaders.
Talks between the two leaders are expected to focus on ways of strengthening Egypt-Qatar cooperation across various fields and review regional developments, particularly regarding the Palestinian issue and ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Sisi arrived in the Qatari capital on Sunday, at the start of a Gulf tour taking him to Qatar and Kuwait. He was welcomed at Doha airport by the Qatari emir.
The president will hold a meeting Sunday evening with members of the Qatari business community to explore opportunities for economic cooperation.
President Sisi's visit to Doha comes in light of the development of relations between the two countries since 2021 where the Qatari emir visited Cairo in June 2022 while president Sisi visited Doha in September 2022 as three memoranda of understanding were signed in the fields of ports, social affairs and cooperation between Egypt's Sovereign Fund and Qatar Investment Authority.
The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Qatar reached 205 million US dollars by the end of 2024 while the total Qatari investments in Egypt amounted to 5.5 billion US dollars.
After the end of his trip to Qatar, Sisi will then head to Kuwait, the second stop in his Gulf tour. The visit is meant to underscore the deep strategic relations between Egypt and Kuwait and their shared commitment to expanding economic and investment cooperation.
The president is set to meet with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as well as Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahd Youssef Saud Al-Sabah. (MENA)

CAIRO – 6 June 2025: 42 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes on several areas in the Gaza Strip on Friday according to Palestinian media reports. An Israeli fighter jet struck a five-story residential building in Jabalia, northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of three Palestinians and injuries to dozens more. According to medical sources, three Palestinians were also killed and others wounded after an Israeli combat drone targeted a charging point for cell phones between tents sheltering displaced people to the west of Khan Younis, WAFA reported. The victims were targeted while trying to reach recently established humanitarian aid sites in western Rafah on the first day of Eid Al Adha. Earlier Friday, 10 Palestinians were killed and others injured in an Israeli raid on homes in Jabalia. They were taken to the Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in Gaza City.

2,215 inmates freed per Eid al-Adha presidential pardon
CAIRO – 6 June 2025: The Ministry of Interior said it had released 2,215 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation centers per a presidential pardon issued to mark Eid al Adha 2025. The move comes as part of a decision by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to pardon the remainder of prison sentences for certain inmates who met the conditions for presidential amnesty during the Eid. Families of the freed inmates expressed joy at their relatives' changed behavior and thanked the president for giving them a second chance to reintegrate into society. As part of the holiday celebrations, the Interior Ministry also held Eid prayers in rehabilitation centers, The ministry said the initiative reflects its commitment to providing comprehensive care to inmates and implementing measures to reintegrate rehabilitated inmates into society.

'The ocean is suffering at the cause of humanity,' said the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who spoke at the opening ceremony on Tuesday. She added, 'Either we save our oceans or the entire race will pay.' Rising sea temperatures due to global warming, ocean acidification, plastic pollution, and offshore oil and gas developments are some of the threats plaguing the ocean. 'Sound research shows global human health is intrinsically linked to a healthy ocean,' said Peter Thomson, the United Nations secretary-general's special envoy for the ocean. The ocean greatly contributes to producing more than half of the oxygen humans breathe, in addition to balancing Earth temperatures by absorbing excess heat and carbon dioxide. 3 billion people depend on the ocean for their daily activities, according to the United Nations. But, at the congress's opening ceremony, Thomson said, 'the ocean's health is currently, measurably in decline.' Now is the time to chart a new future for the ocean, he said. 'Faith has been placed upon this congress to serve as the scientific pillar of the U.N. Ocean Conference,' said Thomson. He added: 'We're expecting that the scientifically compiled conclusions of this congress will inform the leaders and the representatives of governments and civil society who will be attending the conference.'
