Man rushed to hospital after 'car falls' from Luton Airport car park
A car is understood to have fallen from a multi-storey car park at Luton Airport, leaving a man with what are thought to be serious injuries.
Bedfordshire Police said in a statement that emergency services were called shortly before 11am on Sunday.
Officers said the incident involved a single vehicle at a multi-storey car park at London Luton Airport, and that police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene.
"One person has been taken to hospital with injuries which are thought to be serious," the force added, appealing for witnesses.
Images from the airport show a damaged barrier on what appears to be the third level of a car park, and what appears to be a bumper on the ground.
London Luton Airport said in response to queries on social media that the wider airport "remains open and fully operational".

Woman killed in horror stabbing
A woman has been killed in a stabbing in regional Queensland overnight. Police say the woman, aged in her 50s, was stabbed at Cooloola Cove on Sunday night. Officers were called to the scene on Creekside Esplanade at about 7.15pm, following reports a woman had suffered a stab wound. The woman could not be saved by emergency services and died at the scene. 'A man in his 50s is assisting police with their inquiries,' a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said. Cooloola Cove is in the Gympie region, about 160km north of Brisbane. Police have set up a crime scene, and want anyone with information to come forward. Lawyer couple 'steal back' their stolen car after tracking it with Apple AirTag
A couple in London, U.K., stole back their car after they experienced a lack of police support in recovering the stolen vehicle, the wife said in a post on LinkedIn. 'I have to confess … it was kind of fun stealing back our own car… ,' Mia Forbes Pirie, 48, wrote. An international mediator, facilitator and coach, Forbes Pirie referred to her husband Mark Simpson, 62, as her partner in 'un-crime.' The husband, as per his LinkedIn profile, is a commercial barrister in Greater London. 'But it does make me wonder whether we should have had to do that,' she continued in the LinkedIn post. 'And not whether it's normal, but whether it's right that the police seem to have no interest in investigating what is likely to have been a reasonably sophisticated operation involving a flat bed truck… if there are no consequences, what is the incentive for people not to do more of this?' Their car, a Jaguar and reportedly worth over $85,000, was stolen from near their residence in Brook Green, West London. According to The Times, the lawyer couple, after contacting the police, were told that the Metropolitan Police reportedly wouldn't be able to investigate. 'Instead, the couple suggested they could find the vehicle themselves and were told to call 101 if they found it,' The Independent reports. The couple noticed the car missing a week ago, with the AirTag locating it to their road, in what may have been a 'cooling-off period' for the stolen car that one Canadian car owner was made aware of in May last year. CAA Quebec spokesperson and former police commander André Durocher told CTV News that after a vehicle is stolen, thieves will often leave the stolen vehicle nearby. 'They want to see if there's going to be police surveillance to check the vehicle, if there was a tag [to track it], so it's very standard procedure for car theft rings to function that way,' Durocher told CTV. The AirTag for the car in London later pinged from Chiswick, which is where the couple eventually found it with interior and carpets ripped off. The Metropolitan Police, in a statement to The Independent, confirmed that they were alerted to a car theft on June 3. 'Officers spoke to the victim, who shared his intention to recover the vehicle himself. An Apple AirTag was inside, allowing the victim to view its location and trace it. The victim was reminded by officers to contact police again as needed or if police assistance was necessary at the vehicle's location. At 11:23hrs the victim confirmed with police that he had found the vehicle and that it was being recovered by a truck back to the victim's home address.' 'The police are under-resourced and it's a shame,' The Independent reports Forbes Pirie as saying. 'Since we've found it, lots of people have touched the car and the police say that they're going to look underneath the carpets and at the fuse box to see if there are prints there. But it wouldn't have cost very much for them to tell us not to touch anything. That's the one criticism I have.' The police said the investigation is ongoing and that no arrests have been made at this stage. Britain's MI6 spy agency gets its first female chief
OTTAWA, Ontario — Britain's real-life spies have finally caught up with James Bond . MI6 has appointed its first female chief. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Sunday that Blaise Metreweli will be the next head of the U.K.'s foreign intelligence agency, and the first woman to hold the post since its founding in 1909. She is currently the MI6 director of technology and innovation — the real-world equivalent of Bond gadget-master Q. A career intelligence officer, Metreweli, 47, steps from the shadows into the light as the only MI6 employee whose name is made public. She said 'I am proud and honored to be asked to lead my Service.' Starmer said the 'historic appointment' comes at a time 'when the work of our intelligence services has never been more vital. 'The United Kingdom is facing threats on an unprecedented scale – be it aggressors who send their spy ships to our waters or hackers whose sophisticated cyber plots seek to disrupt our public services,' he said. Starmer made the announcement as he arrived in the Canadian province of Alberta for a Group of Seven leaders' summit. Metreweli takes over at MI6 as the agency faces growing challenges from states including China and Russia, whose use of cyber tools, espionage, and influence operations threatens global stability and British interests, even as it remains on alert against terrorist threats. Metreweli is the first woman to get the top job, known as C – rather than M, the fictional MI6 chief of the 007 thrillers. M was played onscreen by Judi Dench in seven Bond movies starting in the 1990s. She will take up her post in the fall, replacing Richard Moore, who has held the job for five years. Britain's two other main intelligence agencies have already shattered the spy world's glass ceiling. MI5, the domestic security service , was led by Stella Rimington from 1992 to 1996 and Eliza Manningham-Buller between 2002 and 2007. Anne Keast-Butler became head of electronic and cyber-intelligence agency GCHQ in 2023. Moore, an Oxford-educated former diplomat, fit the 007 mold like a Savile Row suit. But in recent years MI6 has worked to increase diversity, broadening its recruitment process from the traditional 'tap on the shoulder' at an elite university. The agency's website stresses its family-friendly flexible working policy and goal of recruiting 'talented people from all backgrounds.' Moore suggested he would like his successor to be a woman. He wrote on X in 2023 that he would 'help forge women's equality by working to ensure I'm the last C selected from an all-male shortlist.' Like many things about MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service, the process of choosing a new chief took place out of public view. It began with the country's top civil servant writing to government departments in March asking them to put forward candidates. The job was open to applicants from other intelligence agencies, the civil service, the diplomatic service, the armed forces or the police. In the end, MI6 opted for an internal candidate with a 25-year career in espionage, a degree in anthropology from Cambridge University — where she was on the women's rowing team — and expertise in cutting-edge technology. 'At a time of global instability and emerging security threats, where technology is power and our adversaries are working ever closer together, Blaise will ensure the U.K. can tackle these challenges head on to keep Britain safe and secure at home and abroad,' said Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who oversees MI6.
