Kelantan to strengthen strategic cooperation with Media Prima

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan state government will continue its strategic partnership with Media Prima Bhd (MPB) to organise a variety of programmes across the state, including both academic and entertainment-based initiatives.
State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah said the government welcomes all forms of programmes, provided they comply with guidelines aligned with the state's policies.
"Entertainment programmes are a necessity, but we have set specific conditions that all organisers must adhere to.
"Kelantan is a state with its own uniqueness. For the past 35 years, we have upheld the 'Developing with Islam' policy, and we continue to maintain that approach to this day."
Hilmi made the remarks following a courtesy visit by Media Prima Television Network News and Current Affairs group editor Azhari Muhidin and MPB deputy group managing editor and New Straits Times group editor Farrah Naz Abd Karim, at his office in the Kota Darulnaim Complex yesterday.
He expressed appreciation to MPB for the visit, noting that it contributes to fostering positive relations and mutual understanding in efforts to deliver accurate and timely information to the public.
"We need the support of media partners to disseminate truthful information about Kelantan's development.
"God willing, we will see major progress once key infrastructure projects are completed," he said, referring to the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport upgrade in Pengkalan Chepa, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the Central Spine Road (CSR), and the Kuala Krai–Gua Musang Highway.
Meanwhile, Azhari said the visit reaffirmed the long-standing collaboration between MPB and the state government, citing successful programmes such as Jom Heboh.

Eight Malaysian journalists to perform haj under Saudi Media Ministry initiative

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight Malaysian media personnel have been selected to perform the fifth pillar of Islam – the haj pilgrimage – this year, courtesy of Saudi Arabia's Media Ministry. The ministry's media facilitator, Datuk Izelan Basar, said over 500 media practitioners worldwide, including those from leading news organisations, are invited each year to take part in the pilgrimage and document the world's largest religious gathering. The initiative by the ministry recognises global media professionals who have contributed to intellectual development, innovation, talent cultivation, and the strengthening of bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and Islamic nations. The initiative also aims to enhance collaboration between traditional, and new media, while delivering the values, experiences and spiritual significance of the haj to a broader international audience. "This is also an acknowledgement of the media's broad digital presence, ability to disseminate information rapidly, and their role in positively shaping public understanding of the haj," Izelan said. Among those invited is two-time Kajai Award-winning journalist Farrah Naz Karim, who is Media Prima Bhd's News and Current Affairs deputy group managing editor. She is also the New Straits Times group editor. Farrah Naz is expected to be part of a panel at the Global Hajj Symposium to discuss The Future of Faith-Based Reporting: Coverage of Pilgrimages in a Digital Age. The June 1 event is organised by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Also in the Malaysian media haj delegation are Berita Harian news editor Adha Ghazali, as well as representatives from Bernama TV, TV AlHijrah, and Astro Oasis. The group departed early this morning and is scheduled to return on June 12. While in Jeddah, the delegates will be briefed on Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which has recorded strong progress, with 93 per cent of its key performance indicators achieved since the initiative was launched nine years ago. The delegation is also expected to document features on the pilgrimage, highlighting the scale and behind-the-scenes preparations by Saudi Arabia in welcoming nearly two million pilgrims from more than 183 countries. Riyadh has introduced various initiatives to ensure the highest standard of pilgrim management during the haj season, with a focus on enhancing the pilgrim experience, ensuring safety, and leveraging technology. Key preparations include road infrastructure upgrades, public health measures, and the implementation of digital solutions for crowd management and information access. These include providing a helpline for pilgrims to seek reliable religious support from a select group of some 300 qualified scholars and professional translators. The Saudi government has also taken preventive measures against extreme heat, including planting more trees, expanding shaded walkways, and installing water stations and mist fans.

IGP presents awards to 30 media personnel, including 8 from Media Prima

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight Media Prima Bhd journalists were among 30 media personnel who were given awards for their close cooperation with the police force. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said he was honoured and excited to celebrate with the media, whom he considered as strategic partners of the force. "The media play a crucial part in conveying the force's role in upholding the Federal Constitution, enforcing the law, and reaching all levels of society. "The strong cooperation between police and the media is rooted in our shared responsibility to provide accurate and transparent information to uphold justice, regardless of the situation," he said during the appreciation ceremony at federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman today. Razarudin said the media held a unique power that transcends physical boundaries, influences public thought, and wins hearts in support of national security and peace. "This special role should be transformed into a platform to strengthen society's identity in resisting negative influences that threaten unity and well-being. "On behalf of the force's leadership and personnel, I sincerely appreciate and thank the media for your unwavering support and impactful role, which is undeniably vital," he said. He added that the mass media was not only a source of news and information, but also a vehicle for conveying truth and justice to the public. Razarudin said the force and media practitioners were anchored in professional ethics and sworn duty in safeguarding national security, racial harmony, and inclusive unity. "The focus of information shared must align with the needs, rights, and interests of society so that we remain trusted, relevant, and significant. "High hopes are placed on the media as our strategic partners to improve the dissemination of trustworthy and accurate information — rather than internal speculation or individual interests," he said. He added that the media also played the role of an observer who could monitor police conduct and suggest improvements for governance and integrity in all aspects. Razarudin said they remained optimistic and committed to strengthening its bond and synergy with the media, based on national principles, putting aside misunderstandings, and building societal harmony and national security holistically. The event was also attended by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain and Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri. Also present were Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director Datuk Mohamad Suzrin Mohamad Rodhi, and acting Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department director Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali.

From ‘nasi lemak and durians' to global urban renewal: Malaysia to lead UN-Habitat with 193-nation backing

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — Malaysia is set to take a leading role in shaping the future of global cities as it prepares to assume the presidency of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) next year. Malaysia will hold the presidency from 2025 to 2027, following unanimous support from 193 United Nations member states. 'This is the first time Malaysia has been elected to head the Executive Board of UN-Habitat,' Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming told Mingguan Malaysia in an interview published today. 'It's not easy to get support from 193 countries, but we did it,' he added. UN-Habitat is the UN's leading agency on urban development, sustainability and housing. As president, Malaysia will have the rare opportunity to set the agenda for global urbanisation policy and sustainable city living. 'Malaysia is not only known for nasi lemak and durians. 'We are now also recognised for good governance, transparency, and our commitment to urban transformation,' Nga was quoted as saying. He said the appointment was a direct result of the country's improved international image under the current government. He believes this global platform will benefit Malaysians by attracting foreign investors, technology transfers, and support for smart, sustainable development across the country. Nga noted that many Malaysian initiatives – such as green cities, circular economy policies and low-carbon development – have drawn praise internationally. 'We have proven that even as a developing country, we can lead by example in creating sustainable, inclusive cities.' The minister hopes Malaysia's leadership will inspire public confidence and counter local cynicism about the government's development agenda. 'It's time we stop doubting ourselves. The world believes in Malaysia – so should we,' Nga was quoted as saying. He also used the platform to promote unity and humility in service. 'We must be humble to learn. My slogan is: the Malay child is our child, the Chinese child is our child, the Indian child is our child – and the same for Sabah and Sarawak.'
