4 held under Goonda Act in twin cities
On Tuesday, Shashi Kumar told reporters that last month, the police commissioner and additional district magistrate of Hubballi and Dharwad issued arrest orders under the Goonda Act, 1985, to detain them in various jails for one year. The High Court Advisory Board took up the hearing of the arrest warrant issued against the aforementioned rowdy-sheeters under the Goonda Act and upheld the order of the police commissioner.
The arrest warrant was extended for one year as the rowdy-sheeters were in hiding, violating the land conditions given to them, and the opportunities provided to them to live in a better way. They were deemed a threat to public peace and order, he said.
Rowdy-sheeters of the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad, Sagar Lakkundi, 28, Lakshman Gabhya Ballari, 30, Manjunath Scientist Manja Bhandari, 36, and Dawood Nadaf, 32, were arrested.

1 2 Jamshedpur: Acting on the direction of DC Karn Satyarthi, the district mining task force has increased surveillance and raids to curb illegal mining, stocking and transportation of natural minerals. In the last six days, the task force has seized four trucks that were ferrying sand and stone chips illegally. Two trucks were seized from Mango and Kowali police station limits on July 29 and the other two trucks were seized from Azadnagar and Kadma police station limits on August 2 respectively. In all the four seizures, FIR have been lodged in accordance with the provisions of the Jharkhand Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transportation and Storage) Rules 2017. District mining officer, Satish Nayak said that random raids at the suspected stocking sites and checking of documents of vehicles ferrying minerals is being done with greater frequency. Notably, the DC has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace at which the task force is doing its work in curbing illegal activities pertaining to mining and transportation of minerals. "My daughter ended her life due to family-related stress. We do not hold anyone responsible for her death. Bengaluru: Just last year, Prajwal Revanna drew a basic salary of Rs 1.2 lakh a month plus various allowances until he was disqualified as an MP in April 2024. Today, as a life prisoner (no. 15528) lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison, his earnings will not exceed Rs 540 a month, the standard pay fixed for convicts who work eight-hour shifts and six days a week. As per prison rules, all convicts are eligible to work and earn, except Sundays. But Prajwal is yet to be assigned any job, prison officials told TOI. "New convicts usually begin with unskilled work, like assisting in the bakery or doing basic tailoring. After a year, if found suitable, they may be promoted to skilled labour roles such as weaving or smithy work," a senior prison source said. As the former Lok Sabha member from Hassan was shifted to the convict barrack Friday, he will be given time until Monday to choose his work. "Every Monday, new convicts are allocated their tasks.
