Officials are working to identify a body that was found following an apartment fire in Montreal's east end Wednesday night.
Authorities received several 911 calls at 8:59 p.m. about the incident on Montmartre Street near Forsyth Street in the Pointe-aux-Trembles neighbourhood.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames on the third storey of the building and, once inside the building, discovered an unconscious person.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The person's identity is unknown for now.
Firefighters say they have reason to believe the fire started in the kitchen.
Another fire in Villeray
Firefighters also responded to a fire at an apartment building in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough.
The department received a 911 call Wednesday night about the incident on de Gaspé Avenue and de Liège Street.
The building is considered heavily damaged, with the flames spreading from the basement to the third floor.
There were no reported injuries, and residents were evacuated from their homes.

Four people are dead following an early morning collision between an all-terrain vehicle and a commercial vehicle near Moonbeam, Ont. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) James Bay detachment said the collision happened on Highway 11 at approximately 3:20 a.m. ET on Saturday. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The OPP said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact the OPP or Crimestoppers.
