The Indiana Fever are set to face off against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon in a huge road matchup with playoff implications. Caitlin Clark's team has been struggling to stay afloat in the race for the postseason.
Over their last five games, the Fever have mustered up a 1-4 record. They have been quickly falling in the WNBA playoff standings.
With that being said, they can't be blamed much. Clark has been unable to play since July 15 in a game due to her groin injury. That matchup happened to be against the Sun.

Unfortunately, Clark has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Sun.
Earlier this week, Indiana head coach Stephanie White spoke out with an update about Clark.
"She's been able to get a little bit more in her full court running with all of her body weight," White said. "It's really building up from doing minimal to then building some endurance to do longer periods of time. She's been able to do a little bit more on the court in terms of how she moves, but not into practice yet."
That is not an extremely great update. Clark hasn't even returned to the practice court. Before she can get back into a WNBA game, she'll need to ramp up from a conditioning perspective and test out her groin to make sure that it's fully healed.
To this point in the season, the Fever have played in 34 games. Clark has only been able to participate in 13 of them.
Even when she has played, the injuries she has dealt with this year have hampered her ability to produce big numbers. In the 13 games she has played, Clark has averaged just 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, five rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. She has shot 36.7 percent overall and 27.9 percent from three-point range.

Hopefully, some good news comes out about Clark in the near future. She was supposed to be an MVP candidate and have Indiana looking like a championship contender.
It's unknown if Clark will be able to return this season, but it's now known that today is not the day of that hopeful return.

Why Alex Bregman Wants To Hold Off On Extension Talks With Red Sox

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Alex Bregman has been everything the Boston Red Sox hoped he would be when he signed a $120 million contract in February. Despite missing over a month due to a quad injury in late May, the 31-year-old is having a career year, second only to his 2019 campaign, which saw him finish second in MVP voting. The contract that Bregman and the Red Sox agreed to is technically a three-year deal, but contains opt-outs after the 2025 and 2026 seasons. There has been much speculation over whether Bregman could exercise his opt-out after this season due to his stellar performance on the field. HOUSTON, TEXAS - AUGUST 12: Alex Bregman #2 of the Boston Red Sox reacts after a two run home run during the sixth inning against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on August 12, 2025 in Houston, Texas. MoreEarlier this month, Bregman stated that he prefers to wait until the offseason to engage in contract extension talks with the Red Sox. Scott Neville and I sat down with Bregman to discuss this decision. "I feel like for me it would be a disservice to be thinking about anything other than just winning baseball games right now," Bregman told us on the "ITM Podcast." "Focusing on this team, this year and trying to do anything I can to help lead this team and help get everybody prepared to play down the stretch and get into the postseason." The two-time World Series champion is no stranger to the postseason, or to playing at Fenway in October, having played the Red Sox three times in the playoffs. "I'm really just focused on showing up every day, competing and getting after it, trying to get back to the postseason," Bregman went on to say. The Red Sox have not made the postseason since 2021, and have missed the chance to play in October in five of the last six seasons. A deep postseason run with Bregman at the helm could help the Red Sox's chances of retaining the newest piece of their leadership core. Bregman is currently slashing .305/.387/.546 with a .933 OPS and 16 homers in 79 games. More MLB: Red Sox Bolster Infield By Adding Gold Glove First Baseman: Report

Storm legend Sue Bird gets GOAT shoutout from Isaiah Thomas

The post Storm legend Sue Bird gets GOAT shoutout from Isaiah Thomas appeared first on ClutchPoints. Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird garnered a positive shoutout from former NBA star Isaiah Thomas as she celebrated her career on Sunday. Bird attended the Storm's game against the Phoenix Mercury, being there to witness the unveiling of her statue. She represented the Seattle-based franchise for her entire career from 2002 to 2022, winning four WNBA titles, eight All-WNBA selections, and 13 All-Star selections. Thomas reacted to her celebrations with a post on social media. It's clear that the two-time NBA All-Star has major respect for what Bird achieved, giving her props as she got her statue. 'S/o to the 🐐 @S10Bird on getting a statue in the city!!! Forever respect and love @seattlestorm 🏁,' Thomas said. How Sue Bird's Storm played against Mercury Despite Sue Bird's special day, the Storm were unable to put the cherry on top as they lost 85-82 to the Mercury. Both teams exchanged blows throughout the course of the game, but Phoenix seemed to hold the advantage after the first three quarters. With the game still close, Seattle attempted to rally in the last 10 minutes but was unsuccessful as they lost at home. Perimeter shooting made the difference in this matchup. The Mercury knocked down eight of their 22 attempts from downtown, an accuracy of 30.8%. This was in stark contrast to the Storm making just four of their 18 tries, a 3-point accuracy of 18.2%. Four players scored on Seattle's behalf in the loss. Nneka Ogwumike led the way with 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. She shot 10-of-17 from the field, including 1-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-3 from the free=throw line. Skylar Diggins came next with 14 points and seven assists, Gabby Williams had 13 points and seven assists, while Brittney Sykes provided 11 points and four assists. Seattle fell to a 17-18 record on the season, holding the fifth spot of the Western Conference standings. They are two games behind the Golden State Valkyries and four games behind the Las Vegas Aces. The Storm will prepare for their next matchup, being on the road. They face the Chicago Sky on Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. ET. Related: WNBA commends Storm over historic Sue Bird tribute Related: Sue Bird receives message from Diana Taurasi before statue unveiling

Rays All-Star Second Baseman Positioned as Likely Trade Candidate

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Change could be coming for the Tampa Bay Rays in the offseason. Back-to-back disappointing seasons after five straight years of postseason baseball could lead the front office to focus on a rebuild. If that is the direction the Rays decide to go, a fan favorite and longtime second baseman could be at the forefront of trades. SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - AUGUST 09: Brandon Lowe #8 of the Tampa Bay Rays hits a home run against the Seattle Mariners during the first inning at T-Mobile Park on August 09, 2025 in Seattle, Washington. SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - AUGUST 09: Brandon Lowe #8 of the Tampa Bay Rays hits a home run against the Seattle Mariners during the first inning at T-Mobile Park on August 09, 2025 in Seattle, Report's Kerry Miller believes that second baseman Brandon Lowe could be a likely trade candidate in the offseason. "Quite simply, it's what the Rays do," Miller wrote. "They sign players to escalating contracts, milk the early years of said contract for all they're worth and then pass the buck to someone else willing to pay for the latter years in which the ROI potential is nowhere near as high." We've seen this in the past with Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Isaac Paredes and more. It's rare for players to spend a majority of their careers with Tampa Bay due to the organizations willingness to move players each and every season. Lowe was drafted by the Rays back in 2015 and has spent all eight seasons of his career with the team. He's a two-time All-Star and has finished top 10 in MVP voting twice in his career. Throw the COVID-shortened 2020 season to the side and this year has been among the best of Lowe's career. He entered Monday with a slash line of .272/.318/.492 with 13 doubles, 24 home runs and 61 RBI. Very few players in MLB are as rock steady as Brandon Lowe. A 154 wRC+ since June 1st. The veteran has smacked 24 HR across 99 games this year…career fWAR 16.8 at 30 y/o. Not appreciated enough. — Sam Fosberg (@discussbaseball) August 14, 2025 Lowe has a $11.5 million club option for next season, and it is unclear if Tampa Bay will be willing to pick up that option. Picking up the option and still trading Lowe is certainly a route the Rays could choose. If they did, there should be plenty of suitors for the eight-year veteran.
