According to the report from Schefter, Smith also prefers to remain in Miami, but has asked for a new deal. He is set to make $4.8 million this season, but the tight end could be looking for more guaranteed money.

The highest-paid defensive back should begin the season as the top name opposite Kamari Lassiter in the AFC. In time with another dominant campaign, he should land no lower than No. 2 and compete with Surtain for Defensive Player of the Year accolades for the long haul. That's right, it was the Lions with the winning bid for the NFL's reigning sack leader. (He has 17½ sacks each of the past two seasons.)
