Later this month, Janet Jackson is set to receive the Icon Award at the 2025 American Music Awards.
The 11-time American Music Award winner will also take to the stage for her first television performance since 2018.
'Celebrating 50 years in the music industry, Jackson is still making an impact including the recent viral craze on social media of her Billboard 100 high-energy dance track 'Someone To Call My Lover' that catapulted the song back on the Billboard charts, nearly 24 years after its original release, reaching #3 on the R&B Digital Songs chart and achieving a 1,400% gain in year-to-date U.S. on-demand streams for the hit according to Luminate,' a press release explained. ''Someone to Call My Lover' originally debuted at #3 and was the second single from her chart-topping, seventh studio album, 'All For You.''
Jackson's honor comes as she's kicking off another installment of her Las Vegas residency, Janet Jackson: Las Vegas, which returns to the Resorts World Theatre stage on May 21 for a six-show run through May 31.
The 2025 American Music Awards will air live from the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Memorial Day, May 26 at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT on the CBS Television Network, and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.
The 51st annual awards show will be hosted by Jennifer Lopez.
Decades ago, Lopez and the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer worked together when the 'Love Don't Cost a Thing' singer was a backup dancer for the global phenomenon.

‘KPop Demon Hunters' Tops the Billboard 100 With Huntr/x's ‘Golden'

KPop Demon Hunters has swiftly become one of the most delightful and empowering surprises of the year in animation. Now that the Netflix and Sony Animation-certified banger is taking over the world, it only makes sense for its catchy music to reach greater heights. Billboard just announced that 'Golden' from KPop Demon Hunters' hit soundtrack has reached #1 on the charts. The Huntr/x track for a while there was only slightly behind the Saja Boys' 'Your Idol' from the same soundtrack—but just like in the film, the kick-ass trio overcame the bad guys and surpassed them to hit the top of the charts. So yeah, that Honmoon? Sealed. As per Billboard, 'Golden' is the ninth song from the Korean pop genre to dominate the Hot 100. Additionally, it's also the most recent No. 1 performed by a fictional ensemble from a film, the last being Encanto's viral 'We Don't Talk About Bruno,' which enjoyed a five-week stint at the coveted spot in February and March 2022. And what's even cooler: this is the first all-women group to lead the charts since Destiny's Child in 2001. Huntr/x are those girls. Recently Stephen Kirk and Jenna Andrews, a songwriting duo that contributed to KPop Demon Hunters, talked to the Hollywood Reporter about the film's success: 'I certainly had no expectation. I was just like, I love K-pop, this sounds like a fire idea, let's just see where it goes. And then for it to come out, go number one on Netflix, and then [have] the soundtrack explode, it's just such a blessing,' shared Kirk. Andrews added, 'I mean, the truth is, most labels would [not be interested in] soundtracks. Because soundtracks just don't really stream, they don't really go; it's about the movie, and they go away, right?' she said. 'I think with this particular one, because it was K-pop, I think we both thought it probably will do something, but to this extent, no. Definitely not.' KPop Demon Hunters is now streaming on Netflix. Want more io9 news? Why a '70s Singer Missed Out on Recording What Became the Beatles' Final Hit Song

Why a '70s Singer Missed Out on Recording What Became the Beatles' Final Hit Song originally appeared on Parade. Can you imagine anyone but Paul McCartney singing 'The Long and Winding Road'? Released in May 1970, a month after The Beatles broke up, the song stood as a makeshift eulogy for the band. Fans found solace and sympathy in McCartney's voice as he sang, 'The wild and windy night that the rain washed away / Has left a pool of tears, crying for the day / Why leave me standing here? / Let me know the way.' Released as a single in the U.S. (and oddly, not in the U.K.), 'The Long and Winding Road' went to the top of the charts. As of today, it's the band's last No. 1 song on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100—but, as Beatles lore goes, it was meant for someone else: . Recently, Tim David Kelly, aka Tim From Kicking Harold, highlighted how McCartney and Tom Jones 'were having a great time' while out on the town. After a few drinks, Jones asked McCartney to write him a song. 'Paul, who very much enjoyed doing this type of thing, told his friend he'd be happy to write a song for him.' McCartney soon had the song ready and sent it over to Jones. But McCartney included a catch. 'The condition was that I could do it, but it had to be my next single,' Jones told Wales Onlinein 2013. 'Paul wanted it out straight away. At that time, I had a song called 'Without Love' that I was going to be releasing.' Jones asked his record label, which was 'gearing up' towards the release of 'Without Love,' if he could 'stop everything' so he could record this new song. 'They said it would take a lot of time, and it was impractical, so I ended up not doing it,' said Jones. 'I was kicking myself,' he said. 'I knew it was a strong song and of course it subsequently appeared on[Let It Be].' 'The Long and Winding Road' was a source of contention within the Beatles. McCartney—who already resented the band's manager, Allen Klein—was furious that Klein, apparently without consulting anyone in the band, had producer Phil Spector record the orchestral and choral overdubs to the song. McCartney wrote a letter to Klein and Spector, demanding that 'in the future, no one will be allowed to add to or subtract from a recording of one of my songs without my permission.' He also demanded changes to the version, ending his note with 'Don't ever do it again.'Why a '70s Singer Missed Out on Recording What Became the Beatles' Final Hit Song first appeared on Parade on Aug 11, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Aug 11, 2025, where it first appeared. Rosé Beats Blackpink On The Charts And Makes History

Less than a year ago, Blackpink superstar Rosé finally delivered her debut solo album, Rosie. By that point, the singer had been a global sensation for years thanks to her work with the K-pop girl group, and she had also managed to establish herself on her own — as had her three bandmates. By the time Rosie arrived, several tunes from the set had already been pushed as singles. All of them became successful, but one in particular stands out as one of the biggest hits ever by a K-pop soloist. That track has helped turn Rosie into not just a chart win, but a historic success story for Rosé. Rosie Reenters the Billboard 200 Rosie is back on the Billboard 200 this week. The full-length reenters the 200-spot ranking of the most consumed albums in the U.S. at No. 168. The comeback is exciting for Rosé and her fans, but it's especially meaningful because of the amount of time the title has now spent on America's most competitive albums tally. Longest-Charting Full-Length by a Female K-Pop Act As it returns to the Billboard 200, Rosie reaches 27 weeks on the ranking. Rosé's almost-self-titled project now stands as the longest-charting full-length by any female K-pop act in U.S. history. Before its reentry, Rosie had matched both Blackpink's The Album and Get Up by NewJeans, which each held on for 26 frames — exactly half a year. Rosé Trails BTS and Jimin Only seven albums by K-pop stars have enjoyed longer stays than Rosie. Six of them come from BTS, including Love Yourself: Answer, Map of the Soul: 7, and Proof. Also on that list is Muse by BTS member Jimin, which racked up 34 weeks somewhere on the Billboard 200. 'Apt.' Powers Rosé's Album Rosie is largely being kept afloat thanks to the ongoing success of lead single "Apt.," her collaboration with Bruno Mars. The track is still present on two tallies in the U.S. — the Hot 100 and the Radio Songs chart. More than a month ago, "Apt." broke the records on both lists and became the longest-charting tune by any K-pop musician in American history. It continues to extend that lead every frame. Streams, sales, and airplay of the cut remain healthy, and they play a large role in Rosie moving thousands of units each week. Luminate reports that in the most recent tracking period, Rosé's set shifted just under 9,700 equivalent units. Almost 2,100 of those were pure purchases, while streaming activity accounts for much of the rest.
