Archie Manning downplays Arch Manning in 2026 NFL Draft: 'He'll be at Texas'
Arch Manning, the nephew of former NFL Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, is widely projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, despite attempting just 95 career passes over his first two seasons with the Longhorns.

Manning's grandfather, Archie Manning, said he has not spoken to his grandson about his impending pro decision. But he told Texas Monthly he does not anticipate his grandson leaving Texas after starting one year in Austin.
'Arch isn't going to do that," Archie told Texas Monthly. "He'll be at Texas.'
This could serve as a warning to any NFL teams potentially aiming to tank for the Texas Longhorns quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick. While Peyton and Eli Manning eventually went on to become the No. 1 overall picks in the 1998 and 2004 drafts, respectively, both stayed at college through the duration of their eligibility.
Archie also went No. 2 overall in the 1971 NFL Draft, playing 13 seasons in the NFL. Eli Manning won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, while Peyton won one with the Indianapolis Colts and one with the Denver Broncos.
Texas was ranked as the No. 1 team in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll released on Monday, Aug. 4. The Longhorns will open the season against No. 2 Ohio State in Week 1 on Aug. 28 in Columbus, Ohio.
Manning has completed 63 of 95 passes for 969 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions while mainly serving as a backup to Quinn Ewers in his first two collegiate seasons. Ewers was a seventh-round selection by the Miami Dolphins in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Arizona Cardinals picked up a 20-17 preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday night at State Farm Stadium. They came back from being down 14-3. As the preseason goes, while the result doesn't matter as much as the performance of individual players. Every day is an evaluation and games show what players do under the bright lights. In the bright lights of Saturday's game, which players improved their stock? RB Emari Demercado Demercado will make the roster and will have a limited role playing on third down and special teams. However, he endears himself to coaches and fans when he makes plays like he did on Saturday, taking a short pass from Jacoby Brissett and turning it into a 43-yard touchdown. While it isn't going to earn him more playing time on offense with James Conner and Trey Benson ahead of him, what it does do is give the coaches confidence in his ability to step in should there be an injury. OLB Jordan Burch Burch was disruptive but got little credit for it. Twice he had sacks negated by penalties. He was in the backfield causing problems, and if that is something he can do in the regular season, the Cardinals have a foursome of outside linebackers to be reckoned with in him, Josh Sweat, Zaven Collins and Baron Browning. S Kitan Crawford Crawford, a seventh-round rookie known for his special teams play, picked off a pass in the end zone. Making plays on defense and not just special teams increases his value. Can he show more upside than Joey Blount? That is the question. After one game, he is proving his worth. CB Darren Hall Hall had an interception and almost picked off a second pass. He offers special teams play and is good in the slot. It is going to be tough to make the roster this year, but he certainly helped his case. Rodgers has been putting in work at training camp, and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark believes the veteran is starting to look like his former Super Bowl-winning self. 'I can confirm it AaronRodgers can still really throw the football… it's crazy in person! 2010-11 Super Bowl Flashbacks,' Clark posted. The Steelers' decision to wait until the offseason to sign Rodgers may have actually benefited the franchise, as it resulted in a lighter primetime schedule than if he had signed earlier. 'The Steelers not having a QB yet — and the uncertainty around Aaron Rodgers — may have worked in their favor. They got just 4 primetime games. If Rodgers had signed, they likely would've had 6+ and some holiday slots like the Jets had the last two years, which would've made for a much more unbalanced schedule,' Ari Meirov said. Pittsburgh showed notable patience throughout the process, and it's believed Rodgers gave them some kind of verbal commitment. 'I just think verbally, behind the scenes, not that he guaranteed it, but he's told [the Steelers], 'Listen, I'm gonna play for you. I just don't want to go there and then miss part of mandatory minicamp because of my personal issues. I'm pretty sure they're gonna be solved by the end of May, at least in my satisfaction where I can give you my all,'' Ian O'Connor said. I believed him when he said it, but it's fun to watch play out,' Tomlin said. 'And you're right I knew something.' Clark had asked him if he knew something was going to happen as to why they waited so long in the draft, to which Tomlin admitted he knew. This inside knowledge explains the team's calm demeanor throughout the lengthy negotiation process. It also sheds light on why the Steelers waited until later in the draft to select Will Howard. While fans and analysts were panicking, the organization knew something big was in the works.
