Sleeping In History Class...: Jaishankars Jab At Rahul Gandhi Over China-Pakistan Nexus Warning
External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S. Jaishankar on Wednesday derided and mocked Rahul Gandhi for 'alerting' the government about the China-Pakistan fusion, particularly during the recent military face-off under Operation Sindoor, thereby posing a grave threat to India's national security. The External Affairs Minister said that some 'China gurus' are giving lectures to the government despite their own history of hobnobbing and discounting the dragon on several occasions.
Without taking names, Jaishankar said, 'There are China gurus on the other side, who mock my understanding of global perspective despite being one of the longest serving ambassadors,' eliciting cheers and applause from the treasury benches.
He dug out history to shed light on how the two neighbouring nations - Pakistan and China -- came together and named several instances when they joined hands to corner India and also called out the previous Congress government's 'ignorance' on issues of national security.
'Today, China gurus claim that China-Pakistan combo is a serious threat, but it all started with the giving away of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and then several strategic partnerships between them, including Pakistan-China treaty of China friendship (2005), Gwadar airport deal (2013),' he pointed out. Jaishankar further said that it was during the Congress regime that China was accorded the status of a strategic partner. "Were you sleeping during the history class?" quipped Jaishankar while adding that the government is aware of China-Pakistan bonhomie and is dealing with it.

NEW DELHI: The opposition INDIA bloc on Tuesday termed "unwarranted" the recent observations made by Supreme Court against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, asserting that it is the democratic right and duty of political parties to question the government on matters of national interest. At a meeting of floor leaders convened in Parliament, members of the bloc deliberated over the apex court's comments made on Monday, when a bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih pulled up Gandhi over his alleged remarks concerning the Indian Army during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi were present at the meeting. In a joint statement released following the deliberations, the alliance said, 'All the leaders of the INDIA parties agreed that the sitting judge has made an extraordinary observation which is unwarranted on the democratic rights of political parties.' 'It is the responsibility of political parties, especially the Leader of the Opposition, to comment on issues of national interest. When a government fails so spectacularly to defend our borders, it is every citizen's moral duty to hold it accountable,' the statement added.

New Delhi: INDIA bloc parties on Tuesday termed "unwarranted" the Supreme Court observations against Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks on the Army, and asserted it was the responsibility of political parties to comment on issues of national interest. The remarks came a day after the Supreme Court censured Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, over his alleged derogatory remarks about the Indian Army during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Floor leaders of several parties of the INDIA bloc discussed the remarks of the Supreme Court against Gandhi at a meeting here. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Gandhi were present at the meeting. "All the leaders of the India parties agreed that the sitting judge has made an extraordinary observation which is unwarranted on the democratic rights of political parties," the Congress said in a statement. "It is the responsibility of political parties especially the Leader of Opposition to comment on issues of national interest," the statement said. "When a government fails so spectacularly to defend our borders, it is every citizen's moral duty to hold it accountable," it further said. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also said that Rahul Gandhi holds the Indian security forces in high esteem and as Leader of Opposition he has every right to question the government. Asked about the top court's observations, she told reporters at the Parliament House complex, "With due respect to the honourable judges of the Supreme Court, they do not decide who is a true Indian. It is the job of the opposition leader, it is his duty to ask questions and to challenge the government." "My brother would never say anything against the Army. He holds the Army in the highest respect. So it is a misinterpretation (of his remarks)," she said. A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih on Monday told Rahul Gandhi, "You are leader of opposition. Why don't you say things in Parliament, why do you have to say it on social media?" The bench further asked, "Why do you make these statements without having any material? If you are a true Indian, you won't say such a thing."
