(File) HDFC Bank Minimum Balance: In a major decision set to affect millions of account holders, HDFC Bank– India's largest private banking institution– has hiked the minimum balance limit for savings accounts, making it mandatory for account holders to maintain a minimum balance to avoid penalties in case of non-compliance. What is the new minimum balance limit for HDFC Bank savings account? As per the new rules announced by HDFC Bank, account holders are now required to keep a minimum of Rs 25,000 in their savings accounts, failing which would invite a penalty from the bank. Earlier, the HDFC Bank had a minimum balance requirement (MBR) of Rs 10,000 for savings accounts. The new MBR rule came into effect from August 1 in metro cities and urban areas, and affects all HDFC Bank customers who open savings accounts on or after the said date. ICICI Bank hikes MBR HDFC Bank's MBR hike came day after ICICI Bank– the country's second-largest bank– increased the minimum balance limit on savings accounts from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 per month. ICICI Bank's MBR hike also came into effect on August 1 and was implemented across all its branches in metro and urban regions. Notably, ICICI Bank also hiked the MBR for savings accounts in its semi-urban branches from Rs 5000 to Rs 25,000 per month, while MBR for savings accounts in branches located in rural areas was increased from Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000 per month.

ET Online HDFC Bank service charges from August 1, 2025 After ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank has announced a comprehensive revision of service charges, impacting cash transactions, cheque services, certificate issuance, and electronic fund transfers. The changes include reduced free transaction limits, increased per-transaction charges, and revised fees for NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, and ECS/ACH returns, with differentiated rates for senior citizens and premium account holders. The revision in fees and charges for savings, salary, and NRI accounts, effective from August 1, 2025. HDFC Bank customers will get 4 free cash transactions per month; beyond this, a charge of Rs 150 per transaction will apply. The free monthly value limit for self and third-party transactions at any branch has been reduced from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 1 lakh per account. Beyond this limit, charges will be Rs 5 per Rs 1,000 or part thereof, subject to a minimum of Rs 150. The third-party daily cash transaction limit is Rs 25,000 per day at any branch; transactions above this amount are not permitted. SBI hikes IMPS charges from August 15, 2025: See what PNB, Canara Bank are charging Balance Certificate, Interest Certificate charges Earlier, balance certificate, interest certificate, and address confirmation were free of charge, while old records, copy of paid cheques cost Rs 80 for regular customers and Rs 72 for senior citizens. Now, effective per instance, the charges for all these services are Rs 100 for regular customers and Rs 90 for senior citizens when availed physically at branch premises. ECS/ACH return charges Now, the charges have been revised to Rs 500 for the 1st return (Senior Citizen – Rs 450) and Rs 550 for the 2nd return onwards (Senior Citizen – Rs 500). Technical cases refer to missing date, post-dated cheques, or signature mismatch. RTGS transaction through branch Earlier, RTGS charges were Rs 15 for transactions of Rs 2 lakh and above (Rs 13.5 for senior citizens). Now, they are Rs 20 for transactions between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh (Rs 18 for senior citizens) and Rs 45 for transactions above Rs 5 lakh (Rs 40.5 for senior citizens). NEFT transaction through branch From August 1, 2025, the revised charges will be as followsUp to Rs 10,000 – Rs 2 (Rs 1.80 for senior citizens), Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh – Rs 4 (Rs 3.60 for senior citizens), Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh – Rs 14 (Rs 12.60 for senior citizens), Above Rs 2 lakh – Rs 24 (Rs 21.60 for senior citizens). Earlier, NEFT transactions through branches were charged at Rs 2 for amounts up to Rs 1 lakh (Rs 1.80 for senior citizens) and Rs 10 for amounts above Rs 1 lakh (Rs 9 for senior citizens). IMPS transaction through Online From August 1, 2025, the revised charges will be: up to Rs 1,000 – Rs 2.50 for regular customers and Rs 2.25 for senior citizens; Rs 1,000 to Rs 1 lakh – Rs 5 for regular customers and Rs 4.50 for senior citizens; and above Rs 1 lakh – Rs 15 for regular customers and Rs 13.50 for senior citizens.
