Changing the face of education

CHHATTISGARH : There is no wonder that teachers play a fundamental role in education. And a balance in the pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) is a must for students' academic success. All children deserve a good learning environment and adequate attention from teachers.
The school education system in Chhattisgarh, unfortunately, was long plagued by an imbalance in the PTR. The teaching staff crunch had a detrimental effect on the academic experience of the students, particularly those across the rural and tribal belts. The state government, with a vision to plug the gap, took a comprehensive and meaningful initiative a couple of months ago to rationalise its schools and the teachers. The goal was to facilitate better access to education and equip students with superior learning for future.
The state, countering differences of opinion on rationalisation, went ahead with the far-reaching school education reform in line with the provisions of the National Education Policy 2020 and the Right to Education Act, 2009. It was an effort to streamline the education system and resolve academic anomalies by addressing disparity in the number of teachers available in every school.
And the impact of rationalisation became evident when schools across the state reopened last month, when the new academic session commenced after the summer vacation. It may be noted that prior to rationalisation, as many as 453 schools in the state had no teachers, while 6,872 primary schools and 255 upper primary schools (till Class VIII) were being run with only one teacher each. Such problems were particularly profound in remote and sensitive districts like Sukma, Narayanpur and Bijapur as well as other regions in south Bastar.
But the number of schools without teachers in the state has now dropped to zero! The move has also restored the hustle and bustle of children in 211 schools, which had no students.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, 'We have resolved that now no child in Chhattisgarh will attend school or study without a teacher. Through rationalisation, we are not only following the Right to Education Act but are also laying the foundation of a strong and fair education system. It's a restoration of justice in education.'

Children must engage in social work alongside studies: Tripura CM

Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 5 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the state government is prioritising quality education for students, and quality teachers are being recruited through the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Saha also informed that more recruitments will be made in the future. 'Textbook education can never be the standard of life. One can become morally strong through education. Along with education, children should also be engaged in social work,' he said. CM Saha said this while launching the 'Tripura School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework' (TSQAAF) at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala on Friday. Speaking at the event, Saha said that the state education department is working to keep pace with the times. 'Various programs are being implemented for the bright future of the next generation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the National Education Policy 2020 to give momentum to the education system. If there is a uniform curriculum everywhere, students do not face any problems. If there is a uniform question paper, our children can also compete centrally. Today, with the launch of the Tripura School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework, a new horizon has been opened in the field of education in Tripura. Through this, the children of the state will be able to establish themselves on a contemporary level with the children of other parts of the country,' he said. Saha, who is also the Education Minister of the state, said that through the Tripura School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework, the standards of education of each school can be assessed, and recognition will be given accordingly. 'Along with this, teachers in schools will no longer be limited to the traditional way of teaching. They will have to teach various important subjects beyond the specific syllabus. The Prime Minister's far-reaching vision for the education system must be implemented. He has repeatedly said that it is not enough to just read textbooks. Values, development, and the idea of nation-building must be instilled among children. And through this new system launched today, that idea will reach the children. The state education minister also thanked the various educational institutions and concerned individuals involved in the preparation of this curriculum,' said Saha. He further stated that education plays a special role in improving the quality of socio-economic conditions, along with enhancing one's knowledge. 'Many children are good at studies but fail to succeed in life. Therefore, it is necessary to be involved in sports, social work, and other activities along with studies. It is the responsibility of teachers to develop students into good human beings. They should be taught about social problems and their solutions in schools. The horizon of education must be further expanded. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also conducting a test-paying exercise program to reduce exam-related stress among children,' he said. Special Secretary of the Education Department Raval Hemendra Kumar, Director of Education N C Sharma, CEO of SBI Foundation Sanjay Prakash, along with other officials of the Education Department and eminent persons, were present as chief guests on the occasion. Amit Shah to lay foundation stone of Tribhuvan Sahkari University, India's first national-level cooperative varsity

New Delhi, July 5 (ANI): Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will perform 'Bhoomi Pujan' and lay the foundation stone of the country's first national level cooperative university 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari University (TSU) at Anand in Gujarat on July 5. Amit Shah will also participate in tree plantation under the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' which has become a mass movement on the call of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, instilling a sense of responsibility for environmental protection and cultural values. Apart from this, Amit Shah will also unveil an educational module prepared by the National Center for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to familiarize school students with the principles of cooperation and the impact of the cooperative movement in India. The aim of establishing the 'Tribhuvan' Cooperative University is to prepare professional and trained manpower to meet the growing needs of the cooperative sector. This university will provide specialized education, training and research opportunities in areas such as cooperative management, finance, law and rural development. It will empower cooperative institutions at the grassroots level by promoting innovation, capacity building and best practices, improve governance and accelerate inclusive and sustainable rural economic development, an official release said. Based on the National Education Policy 2020, the academic structure of the University will offer a range of flexible and multidisciplinary programmes, including PhD, degrees at the managerial level, diplomas at the supervisory level and certificates at the operational level. It will set up subject-specific schools at its campus and in other states and create a national network to standardise the quality of cooperative education and training. To create a national network, the University will try to connect more than 200 existing cooperative institutions in the next four years. To meet the skill development and capacity building needs of India's estimated number of about 40 lakh cooperative personnel and 80 lakh board members, the University will train around 20 lakh personnel of cooperative societies like Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, fisheries in the next five years. To address the shortage of qualified teachers, the University will develop a strong teacher base through PhD programmes based on cooperative studies. At present, cooperative education is limited to a few states and scattered across various institutions, which is inadequate to meet the growing demand in this sector, the release said. It added that there is currently no institutional mechanism in India to support research and development focused on innovation and affordable technologies in cooperatives, especially for rural areas. 'Keeping this in mind, a dedicated research and development council will be set up in the university which will undertake research and development in the cooperative sector and also promote it in affiliated institutions. Apart from this, it will coordinate with national and international reputed institutions to establish the world's best practices in India,' the release said. Amit Shah is also scheduled to take part in a series of key events aimed at strengthening India's cooperative movement. It is also learnt that the Home Minister likely to attend the 'Sahkar Samvad' (Dialogue on Cooperation) at Science City, in Ahmedabad, where he will engage with stakeholders, officials, and representatives of cooperative societies. The visit underscores the government's ongoing efforts to empower the cooperative sector and promote education and dialogue in this vital area of the Indian economy. On Sunday, Shah will address a special programme in Anand to mark the completion of four years of the Ministry of Cooperation. The event will be held at Amul Dairy where the Minister is expected to highlight the achievements, reforms, and future roadmap of the ministry since its formation in 2021. Established to strengthen the cooperative movement in India, the Ministry of Cooperation has played a pivotal role in policy formulation and implementation aimed at empowering cooperative institutions and enhancing grassroots participation. Amit Shah's address is likely to focus on the ministry's journey, including its initiatives in dairy, agriculture, credit societies, and rural development, with Amul -- one of India's most successful cooperative models -- serving as an appropriate venue for the occasion.
