Niall Horan responds to Ed Sheeran's Instagram throwback as pair confirm their 'rift' is over - 11-years after One Direction star's 'fling' with singer's ex Ellie Goulding

Daily Mail30-04-2025

Niall Horan confirmed his famous rift with Ed Sheeran is fully resolved as he praised his old friend across social media on Wednesday.
Sheeran hinted at a bitter fall-out with the former One Direction star in 2014 after singing about an ex-girlfriend cheating with one of his friends - widely believed to be Niall and Ellie Goulding - on the hit single Don't.
But the ensuing decade appears to have healed old wounds, with Sheeran, 34, recently sharing an old photo of himself and Horan with Instagram followers.
The photo is part of an online promotional campaign for his latest single, Old Phone, with the singer-songwriter treating fans to a barrage of celebrity throwback photos from his phone archive.
Acknowledging the post, Horan, 31, later reposted the same photo on his own Instagram platform with the response: 'Love ya.'
Sheeran has also posted throwbacks of himself with ex-girlfriend Goulding, R&B stars Usher and Bruno Mars, and a long haired Harry Styles at the height of his One Direction fame.
The singer dated Goulding briefly in 2013 after they were seen looking close at the MTV VMA's, but the release of Don't the following year put a fresh spin on the reason for their abrupt split.
Speaking to The Sun about its lyrical content at the time, he said: 'I got over the anger the moment I wrote the song. It's a song that came at the time that I needed to write. That's the end of it.
'I'm grateful I could get a song out of it, to be honest. I don't feel it's about anyone anymore, I'm not attached to that.
'The moment you attach to someone to a song it becomes more difficult to sing every night.'
The track, which climbed to number eight on the UK singles chart, includes the lyrics: 'I never saw him as a threat, 'til you disappeared with him to have sex,' and 'If I show courtesy and respect to someone, I expect to receive it'.
In 2023, nine years after its release, Goulding addressed claims of a fling on TikTok after a fan told her: 'Can't believe you cheated on Ed with Niall, but slay.'
Responding to the comment, she wrote: 'False!!!! But also slay'.
Sheeran was inspired to write the new song when revisiting his old phone during the copyright lawsuit around his hit single Thinking Out Loud.
At the time, he denied ripping off Marvin Gaye's soul classic Let's Get it On for the 2014 song, and in 2023 was cleared in court.
Explaining the new account, Sheeran wrote: 'Put the sound on and have a listen. I got rid of my phone 2015, and moved onto email full time. I just turned my phone off December '15 and that was it.
'When I got sued, the judge ordered me to give up my old devices to the other sides lawyers, to look through messages, emails, voice notes, videos, etc, to see if there was anything on there to help their case. In the process, I switched on my old phone.
'The first message was from my friend Jamal Edwards, who had recently passed away. The second was from my ex girlfriend who I hadn't been in contact with for years. The third was a family member I haven't spoken to in a decade. And so on.'
Goulding uploaded a TikTok video and responded to a fan who wrote 'Can't believe you cheated on Ed with Niall but slay' with 'False!!!! But also slay'
Sheeran admitted looking through the phone made him emotional for a number of reasons, including discovering pictures of his friends who have passed away.
He wrote: 'It felt like a time capsule, a time of life that I was in, and living at that time in 2015. Turning it on really spun me out, I found myself scrolling messages and conversations with people who are no longer here.
'I found myself crying at messages to friends who are now dead, who I won't get to speak to again. I found old photos of me with people I was so close to then, but we've lost touch since.'
He added: 'The whole experience was such an emotional journey. I wrote the song Old Phone on my own at 2am whilst jet lagged in India finishing the album, and recorded it that morning.
'It feels like a song that should've been on my debut album, but also a song I couldn't have written until I experienced real life things happening to me.'

Sophie Evans asks fans about Welsh language schools and overwhelmingly told one thing

Sophie Evans asks fans about Welsh language schools and overwhelmingly told one thing Best known for her roles in Wicked and the Wizard of Oz, Sophie Evans has been asking for advice about her children's future education Sophie Evans and Ellis Jenkins pictured with their first son Jack, in 2023 (Image: Sophie Evans/Instagram ) West End star Sophie Evans has opened up about a decision many Welsh parents have to think about - whether to send your children to a Welsh or English-speaking school. Just two months after welcoming her second child with husband Ellis Jenkins, Sophie took to TikTok to ask followers for advice. With their first son Jack now nearing school age, the couple must make a decision. "I can't believe the time has come to start thinking about schools for Jack," Sophie said. "But I am at a crossroads as to whether to send Jack to a Welsh language school or an English language school." ‌ The Tonypandy singer said she doesn't speak Welsh fluently, but has some familiarity with the language. She said: "I just think it's something that I really think would've helped with my career, if I could speak Welsh." ‌ Sophie went on to explain her husband's thoughts: "Ellis also doesn't speak Welsh and he is a very academically driven man, he did amazing in school and you know, he says 'I always remember my dad helping me with my homework, maths especially, so he's worried that if we send them to a Welsh school that he wouldn't be able to help them." The couple married in 2022 and have since welcomed two sons, Jack and Louie (Image: Instagram/Jonathan Davies ) She asked followers: "If you send your child to Welsh school, what are the negatives, in your opinion? If you send your child to Welsh school and have loads of positives let me know what they are as well, and vice versa with the English language school. Article continues below "I just don't know what to do. I'm like 75% Welsh and 25% English... but any ideas on what to do?" The comments section flooded with opinions, with the vast majority encouraging Sophie to send her children to a Welsh language school. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter One follower wrote: "Welsh medium education all the way. Better standard of education and the boys will leave being fully bilingual with better job prospect if they stay in Wales. Plenty of help on offer to parents who don't speak the language from schools/teachers." ‌ This was echoed by another comment: "Welsh, being bilingual in any language improves job prospects as an adult, it provides them with all the same GCSEs as standard and speaking multiple languages from a young child has proven to improve cognitive ability such as improved memory and slower cognitive decline, and it makes it easier to learn more languages as an adult. "Not to mention the fact that it's a beautiful langue and everyone in Wales should have the pleasure of speaking it." One commenter who was in the same position said: "Product of a Welsh language school with non Welsh speaking parents, I'm fine! Great job, learnt three other languages and my English is great (freelance writer and journalism grad). ‌ "Homework they learn to explain to you, and you can request English versions of things. In a class of say 50 in my school, only five would have a Welsh speaking parent - it was completely the norm. It's never held me back!" Another added: "The benefits of being bilingual are incredible! I am first language Welsh and my parents didn't speak Welsh, I'm so thankful they gave me the opportunity. It's so important for our culture. Absolutely no negatives. Welsh better funding. English schools will be phased out across Wales in coming years." A minority shared concerns based on their experiences: "I know so many people who struggled with English when attending a Welsh school. They needed an English tutor to help them with basics like spelling/reading etc. Those I know who attended a Welsh school don't use it in their jobs (obvs different for everyone with different jobs) but also jobs like Welsh speaking applicants too." ‌ Another said: "I went to Welsh school, parents struggled to help with homework but I liked my time at school. I didn't keep up my Welsh though and now not that confident to speak it. So if they do go encourage them to keep it up as there are lots of jobs that want specific Welsh speaking, especially in civil service. I can't do maths terminology in English and also only know the lord's prayer in Welsh." Sophie, who rose to fame on BBC talent show, Over the Rainbow, married Welsh rugby International Ellis Jenkins back in 2022. The couple first met when they were both just 18 years old. Speaking to WalesOnline previously, Sophie shared that despite their deep connection, they've faced their fair share of challenges. "When we were about 23 or 24, we went separate ways for just over a year and then realised, 'You are the love of my life' and we are meant to be together. The rest is history," she recalled. But with such a sheer wealth of DJ talent out there, is there one who can truly call themselves King or Queen of streaming services? Or, in this case, who is sitting atop the Spotify heap earning the most from UK fans in 2025? Spin Genie took a look at some of the figures as part of their roundup of the most influential DJs of 2025 to find that answer and, equally important, how many of the top ten are set to perform at Creamfields this year? Methodology The ranking of DJs was compiled by first generating an artist seed list from ChartMasters and DJMag . For each artist, data was then collected on average monthly listens from Spotify, total Google searches and their percentage change (comparing April 2023-March 2024 with April 2024-March 2025) via Google Keyword Planner , and the number of news articles from Google Search News (using alternate terms for ambiguous names). Additionally, follower counts were obtained from each artist's verified Instagram and TikTok accounts. Finally, all collected data points were used to create a normalised score out of ten, resulting in a ranking for both male and female artists. 1 . Five surprise Robbie Williams fans with first live performance in 25 years

Former Take That member Robbie Williams is currently travelling around the country as he treats super fans to UK BRITPOP stadium tour Five have surprised Robbie Williams fans at a London concert with their first live performance in 25 years. Concert-goers were sent into a frenzy when the multi-platinum selling band joined Robbie on stage during his performance. Robbie is currently on his huge BRITPOP stadium tour and Five's appearance is their first performance with all five members together for more than two decades. ‌ The band's iconic 1999 chart-topping song Keep On Moving played through the stadium while Robbie admitted that he didn't know all of the words of the second verse and asked the audience to join in to help which is when the band appeared. ‌ Abz Love, J Brown, Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson and Sean Conlon all walked out on stage before singing along to their song. This is also the first time Five and Robbie have performed together. Talking about the opportunity, Five said: "Wow, what an honour to be asked by Robbie Williams to join him on stage at his London stadium show. Rob has been such a big supporter of ours, from the early days through to the comeback, so when he reached out to ask whether we'd come out on stage for his performance of Keep On Movin', it was the EASIEST yes. "To get to share that moment with Robbie in front of 60k people was crazy… definitely a version of Keep On Movin' we'll never forget." The surprise performance comes ahead of Five's 25-date KEEP ON MOVIN' Tour, which will kick off this October. This comes after Robbie recently opened up about her deals with anxiety when he is recognised by fans. The star, 51, said how interactions with fans can "spike" the issue in a heartfelt post on Instagram. ‌ He described a recent incident on board a flight in America saying: "I've had three interactions so far with fellow passengers. One of them handed my a lovely note - kind words about my documentary - and then asked for a photo." Robbie said he sent another note back explaining that he had "been up since 4.30am, had two hours' sleep, and wrangled four kids through the airport". He also confessed to dealing with anxiety before saying anybody approaching him for a photo would cause it to "spike" due to the further attention it would cause. However, he said he hadn't rejected the request, but instead tried to explain how many people had a photo with him, but no-one had the same handwritten note. ‌ Robbie revealed how it's a daily situation for him, with strangers approaching him on average 20 times a day to take a photo. But he then argued that there are some situations that he doesn't want to capture and there should be scenarios in which he can reject a request. "I was on the phone to my wife the other day - she was in flood of tears about her mum. Is it okay for me to say no to a photo request then?," he asked. "What if I'm having a challenging mental health day - is it okay if I don't want that captured by a stranger?" He finished off his post by saying he needed to get that off his chest and it was "not a moan". Fans and celeb friends such as Paris Hilton, Amanda Holden and Kris Jenner all left messages saying they understood the difficult situation.
