Car crashes into barn roof in Germany, child among seriously injured
Police said the boy and the driver's wife were seriously injured.
The driver was an unidentified 42-year-old man, and his two sons, aged 11 and 12, and a 13-year-old passenger were also on board.
They all emerged with minor injuries.
The car first collided with a parked vehicle in the town of Bohmte before breaking through a hedge and driving into a garden where it hit the boy, police said.
It then went over uneven ground and was apparently catapulted into the air and ended up crashing into the roof of a neighbouring barn about 3 metres off the ground.
Two rescue helicopters and dozens of firefighters and ambulances were among the emergency services deployed in response.
Videos from the scene show rescuers cutting through the roof, and the wreckage of a playground that the car ran through.
The car had to be removed from the roof with a crane and was carted away by police.

Two Israeli soldiers arrested at Belgium festival over Gaza war complaint
Two Israelis have been arrested and questioned in Belgium as part of an investigation into war crimes in Gaza. Two rights groups, the Hind Rajab Foundation and the Global Legal Action Network, said the pair were detained after the groups told Belgian authorities there was credible evidence they had committed war crimes in Gaza. "The action came in response to an urgent legal complaint filed by the Hind Rajab Foundation and the Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) earlier this week," the Hind Rajab Foundation said in a statement. "The suspects were identified and arrested with a clear show of force at the Tomorrowland festival in Boom. After being taken into custody, they were formally interrogated and released." Israel's Foreign Ministry confirmed two citizens on holiday in Belgium were briefly arrested in Belgium. It did not say whether they were arrested due to the war crimes allegations, but Belgium's public broadcaster said the prosecutor's office confirmed they were arrested because of the complaint. The rights groups said Belgian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the pair. The Hind Rajab Foundation is a legal non-governmental organisation registered in Belgium, named after the five-year-old Gazan girl killed by Israeli forces in January 2024, in what UN experts said was a possible war crime. The group has been using the social media posts of travelling Israeli soldiers to track them and seek their arrests overseas using something called "universal jurisdiction", the legal principle that any state can try a person for a serious breach of international law, regardless of where the crime was committed. After the foundation began its campaign, the Israel Defense Forces subsequently released new restrictions to the media on identifying soldiers and told its members not to post about their actions in Gaza on social media. The Hind Rajab Foundation and other legal groups have sought the arrest of Israeli soldiers around the world — causing some holidaying Israelis to flee a number of countries — but the group said this was the first time authorities had actually detained anyone. "This development is a significant step forward," it said in a statement. "It signals that Belgium has recognized its jurisdiction under international law and is treating the allegations with the seriousness they deserve. "At a time when far too many governments remain silent, this action sends a clear message: credible evidence of international crimes must be met with legal response — not political indifference." The Israeli Government has sought to discredit the Hind Rajab Foundation, saying the group is "anti-Israel" and accusing its founder, Lebanese-born Belgian activist Dyab Abou Jahjah, of sympathising with the Shia militant group Hezbollah, a listed terrorist organisation in many countries, including Australia. Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has called the group: "a gang of Holocaust deniers, supporters of abducting Israeli civilians, and admirers of (former Hezbollah leader) the late (Hassan) Nasrallah." Pro-Israel politicians in Belgium sought to have the group de-registered but in May the country's justice minister said a state security evaluation had found no concrete evidence of links to Hezbollah or of any threat to the Belgian state.

Elon Musk's X says it won't cooperate with 'politically motivated' French probe
Elon Musk's X has accused French prosecutors of launching a "politically-motivated criminal investigation" that threatens its users' free speech, denying all allegations against it and saying it would not cooperate with the probe. Earlier this month, Paris prosecutors stepped up a preliminary probe into the social media platform for suspected algorithmic bias and fraudulent data extraction, authorising police to conduct searches, wire taps and surveillance against Mr Musk and X executives, or summon them to testify. If they do not comply, a judge could issue an arrest warrant. "Based on what we know so far, X believes that this investigation is distorting French law in order to serve a political agenda and, ultimately, restrict free speech," the social network posted on its Global Government Affairs account. "For these reasons, X has not acceded to the French authorities' demands, as we have a legal right to do." It was not immediately clear what sort of request prosecutors had sent to X, but failure to comply with a judicial request can range from a fine to obstruction of justice charges. The Paris prosecutors' office did not respond to a request for comment. X said the probe had been instigated by Eric Bothorel, a French lawmaker, who had accused X of "manipulating its algorithm for 'foreign interference' purposes", an allegation it said was "completely false". Mr Bothorel, in a statement, defended the independence of the French judiciary. "It's a concept that seems completely up-ended in the United States at the moment," he said, adding that France was committed to free speech but not without limits. Musk, a former ally of US President Donald Trump, has accused European governments of attacking free speech and has voiced support for some of the region's far-right parties. The French probe could deepen a rift between Washington and European capitals over what sort of discourse is permitted online, with senior US officials alleging the censoring of right-wing voices around the world. The European Commission has been investigating X for breaching its digital transparency rules against illegal content, known as the Digital Services Act, since late 2023. The social media giant X said Paris prosecutors had requested it hand over data on all user posts for analysis by researchers David Chavalarias and Maziyar Panahi, who it said had both exhibited "open hostility towards X". Mr Chavalarias did not respond to a request for comment. Mr Panahi denied any involvement in the investigation. "My name was mentioned by mistake, based on my previous research projects with David Chavalarias, none of which have ever had any hostile intent toward X," he said in an email. "The fact my name has been mentioned in such an erroneous manner demonstrates how little regard they have for the lives of others … I will not hesitate to pursue legal action for defamation should I receive any form of hate speech." X did not respond to a request for comment on Mr Panahi's statement. FIFA boss offers support as England's Jess Carter leaves social media amid online racist abuse
FIFA President Gianni Infantino offered the governing body's support to England defender Jess Carter after she revealed she has been the target of racist abuse during Euro 2025. Carter, whose father is African American, on Sunday announced she is stepping away from social media for the duration of the tournament. The 27-year-old has started all four of England's games at the tournament, but struggled in their quarterfinal win over Sweden on Thursday as the Lionesses conceded two first-half goals. Football Association CEO Mark Bullingham condemned the abuse, and said the FA has been in contact with UK police, who are in touch with the relevant social media platform, to "ensure those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice". "We stand with Jess. We stand with every player and every individual who has suffered from racist abuse. No player should be discriminated against in any way, they should be free to be at their very best on the pitch," Infantino said in a statement. "In this instance, we will be offering our support with any further action required, as well as sharing data for appropriate action to be taken against any perpetrators." European soccer's governing body UEFA, Carter's club Gotham FC, the National Women's Soccer League, and the Lionesses all also posted statements in support of the player.
